McMILLAN
MOORESVILLE -- Mrs. Gertrude Ebert ''Trudy'' McMillan, 79, formerly of 2711 Huntington Ct., died Friday, September 17, 1999 at the Brian Center in Mooresville. Mrs. McMillan was born April 29, 1920 in Ducktown, Tenn. to Zeb Vance and Georgia McCall Rykard. She was a retired employee of Davis Department Store, a member of Christ Moravian Church, and a member of Pinebrook Country Club. Mrs. McMillan was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Franklin ''Hump'' Ebert, in March, 1971; and her second husband, Tom McMillan, in October, 1990. Surviving are a sister, Myrtle Curry Wessman of Carolina Beach; two sons, David Ebert of Easley S.C. and Steve Ebert of Mooresville; a stepdaughter, Tamara Cooper of Winston-Salem; a stepson, Craig McMillan of Colorado; and nine grandchildren. The funeral will be held Wednesday, September 22 at 11:00 a.m. in Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. Rev. Wallace Elliott and Rev. Judith Justice will officiate. Interment will follow in God's Acre. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Donations may be made in honor of ''Trudy'' to the Family Council Group, a nonprofit organization established to aid residents without families; mail to 752 East Center Street, Mooresville, N.C. 28115, Attn: Elizabeth Sherrill.

NICHOLS
Miss Alma Rita (Polly) Nichols, 87, of 578 Old Cadle Ford Road, Mt. Airy, N.C., passed away on Monday morning, September 20, 1999 at Northern Hospital of Surry County, Mt. Airy, N.C. Miss Nichols was born in Surry County on August 2, 1912, the daughter of the late Charlie M. and Lottie Bingman Nichols. She was a homemaker and member of White Plains Friends Meeting. Surviving are three sisters, Marie Nichols and Connie Draughn both of Mt. Airy and Bertie Badgett of White Plains, N.C.; one brother and sister-in-law, Merlin M. and Bertha Nichols of Mt. Airy; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Nichols of Mt. Airy; and a host of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at White Plains Friends Meeting conducted by Rev. J. Loyd Pugh with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home, Mt. Airy, N.C. Flowers will be accepted.

SILVER
BURNSVILLE -- Elizabeth S. Silver, 94, died Saturday, September 18, 1999 in Brookridge Retirement, Winston-Salem. She was the wife of Ransom N. Silver who died in 1959. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn S. and Robert P. Hyams of Charlotte and Margaret S. and Jack M. Rogers, M.D. of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Services 2 p.m. Tuesday in Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. David Penland officiating. Burial will be in Holcombe Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Monday at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 85, Burnsville, N.C. 28714.

TUTTLE
Mr. Billie Eugene Tuttle, 70, died at Forsyth Medical Center on Monday, September 20, 1999 following a period of declining health. A native of Forsyth County, he was born March 13, 1929 to John Earl and Alta Holt Tuttle. Mr. Tuttle was an active member of the First Christian Church of King, where he was a past Elder, Sunday School Teacher and in the past years, had coached the church softball team. He was also in past years, active in the King Little League as a girls softball coach. Mr. Tuttle was retired as a manager from Hanes Hosiery in 1987 with 35 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Thomas Earl Tuttle; and two sisters, Joyce Ashbey and Virginia McGee. Surviving is his wife of 49 years, Betty Jo Newsome Tuttle; three daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Steve Brown of King, Cindi and Keith Stines of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Kim and Paul Fleming of Greensboro; four grandchildren, Chad Stephen Brown of Mount Airy, Stephanie Mae Brown of King, and Keri Ann Stines and Jerren Stines both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Amanda Payne, Sarah Noel Brown, and Kristin Madison Brown; one brother, Bobby Gray Tuttle and wife, Ivy of Walkertown; and two sisters, Dot Fulk and husband, Kenneth and Georgia Cromer and husband, Frank both of Rural Hall. A ''Home Coming'' service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. this evening at the First Christian Church of King, officiated by Gene Thompson, minister and Bill Truitt, minister. The family will receive friends following the service. Memorials may be to the First Christian Church of King, 625 Meadowbrook Drive, King, N.C. 27021. Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Rural Hall Chapel.

WOLFE
Mrs. Etta D. Wolfe, 86, of Winston-Salem, died Monday, September 20, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born February 23, 1913 in Surry County to Tom Daniel and Sarah Ellen Tucker Dunnigan. Mrs. Wolfe was a member of Union Ridge United Methodist Church and had retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with 30 years of service. Surviving are her husband, Samuel Ray Wolfe, Sr. of the home; one son, Samuel Ray Wolfe, Jr. of Winston-Salem; one grandson, Kevin Ray Wolfe of Winston-Salem; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 1999 at Union Ridge United Methodist Church by Rev. Lara Green. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Union Ridge United Methodist Church, 3620 Old Lexington Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27107.

YOUNG
DANBURY -- The Lord called to rest, our beloved brother. Terry Davis Young, age 66, passed away early Sunday morning, September 19, 1999 at Patrick Community General Hospital in Stuart, Va. He was born April 24, 1933, son of the late, James Branscome Young, Sr. and Nancy Gilbert Young. Mr. Young was of Danbury, and had been a resident of Blue Ridge Nursing Center for six years. He joined Pleasant View Primitive Baptist Church in August of 1977, and was a faithful member as long as his health permitted. He had been cripple all of his life, in body, but the Lord blessed him with a wonderful mind and memory. He was loved by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, David Ithel Young ( September 23, 1924) and Robert Lloyd Young ( December 7, 1993) ; a niece, Diane Young Gilley ( January 25, 1994); and a brother-in-law, Dell M. Shelton ( October 24, 1982) . Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Isabell) Dodson and Mrs. Adelene Y. Shelton, both of Danbury; five brothers, J.B. (Lucille) Young, Jr. and Ray (Joyce) Young, both of Danbury, Curtis (Lena) Young of Stuart, Va., Winfred (Louise) Young of Lawsonville, and Clyde (Jo) Young of Trinity; one sister-in-law, Minnie R. Young of Walnut Cove; 16 nieces and nephews; 23 great nieces and nephews; and one great, great niece. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2:00 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel by Elder John Calhoun, Elder Walter Hodge, Elder Ked Stacy, and Elder Danny Smith. Burial will be in the North View Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7:00-9:00 p.m. Monday at Nelson Funeral Home. ANDERSON
GRANITE FALLS -- Dora ''Mom'' Ratliff Anderson, 91, of David B. Reid Lane, Granite Falls, N.C., and formerly of Wilkes County, N.C., died Saturday, September 18, 1999 at Avante Nursing Facility in Wilkes County. She was born September 18, 1908 in Princeton, W. Va., the daughter of the late Leslie and Sallie Belcher Ratliff. She was a housewife, and a member of Heavenly Hope Baptist Church in Lenoir, where she had also been a choir member. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius W. Anderson; two daughters, Nora Louise Anderson and Katherine Anderson Knight; two sons, Sidney O. Anderson and James Alvin Anderson; two grandchildren; one great grandchild; three brothers; and one sister. She is survived by one son, Leslie C. Anderson of Walkertown; five daughters, Mrs. John (Eunice) Edsel of Moravian Falls, Mrs. Faye Riddle of North Wilkesboro, Mrs. Tony (Helen) Marion of Millers Creek, Mrs. Glenn (Hilda) Absher of North Wilkesboro, and Mrs. Larry (Joyce) Roberts of Granite Falls; one brother, Ozwill Ratliff of Sumpter, S.C.; two sisters, Louise Cartwright of Carlsbad, N.M. and Mable Anderson of North Wilkesboro; 26 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; nine great, great grandchildren; 11 step great grandchildren; and six step great, great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 22 at Heavenly Hope Baptist Church, with Rev. Benny Green and Rev. Kenneth Poarch officiating. Burial will be in Fishing Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Wilkes County, N.C. The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home and from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home. BELCHER
KING -- Mrs. Hattie Nichols Belcher, 89, of 200 Plantation Dr., died Saturday, September 18, 1999 at her home after six months of declining health. She was preceded in death in 1962 by her husband, Louis W. Belcher, Sr., ''the love of her life. '' Mrs. Belcher was born in Mt. City, Tenn. on September 3, 1910, the daughter of the late Arthur F. and Mattie Hamby Nichols. She was a member of Rural Hall Church of Christ. She was loving and ded icated to her family, and en joyed and appreciated the love and support of many close friends. Surviving are two daughters, Jacqueline Fulp and Geri Marley, both of King; two sons, A. G. Belcher and wife, Becky, of Winston-Salem and Louis W. Belcher, Jr. and wife, Gayle, of Cedar Bluff, Ala; 11 loving, faithful, and supporting grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren that could light up her life instantly; and three sisters, Viola Greer, Ethel Clawson, and Florence Day, all of Deep Gap, N.C. Visitation will be held at Rural Hall Church of Christ on Monday, September 20 at 7:00 p.m., with services immediately following, officiated by Rev. Ron Voss, who has been a longtime, special friend to Mrs. Belcher. A graveside service will be conducted 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 21 at Mountlawn Memorial Park in North Wilkesboro. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, 1100-C S. Stratford Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103. Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home, Rural Hall Chapel, is assisting the Belcher family with arrangements.

CHEEK
HAMPTONVILLE -- Granville H. Cheek, 74, of Cheek Rd., passed away Sunday, September 19, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Yadkin County to S.A. and Novella Nicks Cheek. Mr. Cheek was retired from Chatham Mfg. Company after 44 years of service. He was the Yadkin County veterans service officer since 1992, and served two terms on the Hoots Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees. He was on Govenor Martin's Advisory Board for the Scholarship Fund, and awarded while serving on the Tar Heel Legislator, and the Council on Aging. He was active in the Republican Party and served on the Executive Committee as a precinct chairman for 30 years. He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church, where he was associate Sunday school director and Adult Men's Class teacher. He also served on the Board of Financial Trustees, the Church Council, and on the Cemetery Committee. Mr. Cheek was a veteran of the army in World War II, and a life member of Yadkin VFW Post 10346. He was preceded in death by his father, S.A. Cheek; and one brother, William Harold Cheek. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Reola Combs Cheek, of the home; a daughter, Julia (Billy) Freeman; a granddaughter, Hannah Freeman; his mother, Novella Nicks Cheek; and one sister, Wilda Jean (Jess) Cheek Coleman, all of Hamptonville; six brothers, Kenneth Cheek and Roy (Carol) Cheek, both of Jonesville, Jack Cheek and Phillip Cheek, both of Hamptonville, and Allen (Dean) Cheek of Conrad Cir., Lewisville. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 21, 1999 at Oak Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Joe Souther, Rev. Larry Lefler, and Jr. Gentry. He will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church Cemetery, with full military honors by VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends Monday, September 20 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Gentry Family Funeral Service, Hwy 601 North in Yadkinville. Memorials may be made to Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund or the Cemetery Fund, 1041 Oak Grove Church Road, Hamptonville, N.C. 27020.

DILLON
MOCKSVILLE -- Mrs. Nell Davis Dillon, 88, of U.S. Hwy 64 East, Fork Church Community, died early Sunday morning, September 19, 1999 at Davie County Hospital following a period of declining health. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 21 in Fork Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Bill Batterman officiating. The family will be at Eaton Funeral Home on Monday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. Mrs. Dillon was born in Davie County on July 20, 1911 to the late Jess and Sally Everhart Davis. She had been involved in local arts and crafts, the Democratic Party, and with assisting her brother, Dan, in his interior decorating shop. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dan Dillon; and three brothers, Dan Davis, Moyer Davis, and George Wyatt Davis. Surviving are her sister, Mrs. Winnie Davis Potts of Clemmons; a niece, Vickie Josephson of Matthews; and a nephew, Tim Davis of Mocksville. The family requests memorials be considered for the Cemetery Fund of Fork Baptist Church, 3140 U.S. Hwy 64 East, Mocksville, N.C. 27028 or a charity of the donor's choice.
