KEY
Mrs. Thelma Beane Key, 99, of 4650 Paradise Lane, Winston-Salem, widow of John Martin Key, died at Village Care of King. Mrs. Key was born in Yadkin County, N.C., March 4, 1900 to Alford and Cora Beane Poindexter. She was a homemaker and a child care provider. Thelma Beane Key, known to all who knew and loved her as Mama Key, went to be with her Heavenly Father on September 13, 1999. She loved her Lord, church, family, and friends. She leaves many precious memories to those whose lives she touched. Mama Key, we love you and are honored that we were blessed to share your journey through this life on earth and even more blessed to know your journey has just begun. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church where she served her Lord for many years. The family would like to thank the staff and friends of Village Care for the care and special attention she received during the last years of her long life. Mrs. Key is survived by one daughter and devoted son-in-law, Dorothy Key Taylor and husband, Lester of Winston-Salem; one son and daughter-in-law, Jesse Gray Key and wife, Margaret of Winston-Salem; one daughter-in-law/special friend, Mary Lee Key of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Ann Bennett of Walkertown, Wanda Weavil of Midway, Wayne Taylor of Winston-Salem, and Larry Taylor and Deborah Tise both of Pfafftown; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Woodrow Poindexter of Richmond, Va.; and a special niece, Elizabeth Estelle Warden and husband, Roy of Winston-Salem. Mama Key is also survived by her church family. She was preceded in death by one son, John Wesley Key. Funeral services will be held at Edgewood Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Wednesday, September 15, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Richard Odom, Rev. Richard Hicks, and Rev. Mark Harris. Mrs. Key will be taken to Edgewood Baptist Church Wednesday, September 15, 1999 one hour prior to the funeral service at which time the family will receive friends. Burial will follow at Pine Hill Friends Meeting Cemetery in Ararat, N.C. Memorials may be made to Edgewood Baptist Church, 4067 Reidsville Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101.

MACKIE
JONESVILLE -- Mr. Kermit L. Mackie, 88, passed away Monday, September 13, 1999. He was born June 24, 1911, in Yadkinville to the late John Wesley and Mary Ellen Carter Mackie. He attended Yadkinville High School and Guilford College. He was retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company with 42 years of service, where he played on The Blanketeers baseball team. He served 3 1/2 years in the United States Army. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Violet Pardue Mackie. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel and at other times at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gilmer Hinson, 167 Shady Lane, High Meadows, Roaring Gap.

MARSHALL
Mr. Dayton Cecil Marshall, of 2900 New Walkertown Rd. Apt. L, departed this life on Thursday, September 9, 1999. He worked as a mechanic at Blue Island Body Shop most of his life. He was a member of Mt. Able Pentecostal Church. Dayton Marshall was preceded in death by his father and mother, Dayton and Hallie Marshall of Chicago, Ill. He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Mrs. Pamela Marshall; one sister, Mrs. Lois Burton; one brother, Mr. Percy Marshall; his mother-in-law, Overseer Elizabeth Nesmith; his children, Dayton, Datrina, Victor, and Hallie Marshall; step-children, Amanda, TaToya, and Kimberly Nails; two sisters-in-law, Linda Webber and Dianna Williams both of Winston-Salem; a brother-in-law, Freddie Nails of Kentucky; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Funeral services will be held today. Beasley Triad Funeral Home is serving the family.

PRIOR
Mr. Dupont Newton Prior, 84, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 1999 at Yadkinville Nursing Center. Mr. Prior was born on October 21, 1914 in Calhoun Falls, South Carolina to Willie Wallace and Effie Savannah Carter Prior. There will be a graveside service conducted at 1:00 p.m. today, September 15, 1999 at Forsyth Memorial Park Cemetery by Dr. Cecil Cave, Jr., Danny Prior, and Rev. Tim Gammons. Mr. Prior spent most of his life in Winston-Salem and was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church. He had worked with the Boy Scouts of America through the Old Hickory Council. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Jerry Alexander of Winston-Salem; one son, Danny D. Prior and wife, Susan of Chattanooga, Tennessee; three sisters, Keewa Spainhour, Neewa Marshall, and Shelia Prior all of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren. The family asks that memorials be made to Mineral Springs Baptist Church Radio Ministries, 3733 Ogburn Avenue, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27105. (Vogler Reynolda Road)

REYNOLDS
Mr. Daniel Ferdinand Reynolds, 90, of 718 Westover Avenue, died Sunday, September 12, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Reynolds was born October 4, 1908 in Winston-Salem to Lamb Archibald and Bessie Binkley Reynolds. He was secretary of L.A. Reynolds Company and general manager of the Nursery and Landscape Department for 30 years. He was president of ReyNol, Inc., which was a real estate holding corporation and vice-president of Reynolds Construction. He served as president of the North Carolina Nurserymen's Association and the Winston-Salem Lions Club. He was also past president of the Southern Nursery Association. Other memberships include the Forsyth Country Club, Twin City Club, and Seven Devils Resort Club. He was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and a WWII Veteran serving in the U.S. Marines. In addition to his memberships, Mr. Reynolds was an avid golfer and fisherman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Toner Reynolds and three brothers, Frank T. Reynolds, Galloway G. Reynolds, and Tom Reynolds. Surviving are one daughter, Robin Reynolds of the residence; one son, Peter A. Reynolds and wife, Judith of Corvallis, Montana; one sister, Ruth Hartle of Lewisville; and two brothers, Herbert Reynolds and wife, Pat of Lewisville and Porter Reynolds and wife, Pat of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. A Memorial Service will be held today, September 15, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. in Centenary United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends in the church parlor following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 658, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27102. RIPPEY
CANA, Va. -- Mr. Howard Cody Rippey, 75, of 91 Shady Creek Lane, Cana, Va., passed away on Monday, September 13, 1999 at the Blue Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Galax, Va. Mr. Rippey was born in Carroll County, Va. on November 5, 1923, son of the late Thomas Dewey and Ettie Combs Ripey. He was a produce dealer and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are two sisters, Lera Payne of King, N.C. and Margie Calloway of Winston-Salem; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roy and Audrey Rippey and Junior and Charlene Rippey all of Cana, Va.; several nieces and nephews; and special caregivers, Jimmey and Lynn Rippey of Cana, Va. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rippey was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd Rippey, Raymond Rippey, and Arlis Rippey. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 16, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel of Mount Airy. The service will be conducted by Rev. Harris Easter, with burial in the Easter Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at the Moody Funeral Home of Mount Airy.

ROGERS
Reverend Willie Columbus Rogers, 83, of 2211 Reynolds Park Road passed away on Sunday, September 12, 1999 at the Wake Forest University/Baptist Medical Center with his wife at his bedside. He was born on April 30, 1916 in Wilson, N.C. to the late Ed and Mabel Bennett. His early education was in the public schools of Wilson, N.C. He graduated from Winston-Salem Bible College. He spent many years in New York, N.Y. where he met and married Ann Grier of Winston-Salem. He was an ordained Baptist Minister having served as Associate Pastor of West End Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, Pastor of Pine Hall Baptist Church in Pine Hall, N.C., Pastor of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, and Associate Minister of United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church where he was a faithful and devoted member until the end. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Ann G. Rogers of the home; two sons, Ronald and Donald Rogers; four grandchildren, Tasha Harris of the home, Cedrick Ceasar, Chelsea Bryant, and Ronald Rogers; a god-child, Valerie Coplin; a special daughter, Thelma Lawrence; very close, dear friends, Queen and Evon Reid all of Winston-Salem; and other relatives and a host of loving friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, September 16, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. from the United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. J. Donald Ballard officiating. Entombment will be in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. (RUSSELL)

SHRUM
HARMONY -- Mr. Richard Earl Shrum, 45, of 1011 Myers Road, Yadkinville, died Monday, September 13, 1999 at N.C. Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem as the result of a farm accident. Born December 18, 1953 in Gastonia, North Carolina, he was a son of Mr. Dennis N. Shrum, Jr. of Statesville and the late Viola Davis Shrum. He was employed with Williams, Roberts, and Young of Winston-Salem working under contract as a network administrator for Wachovia Bank. He was a computer, farming, and horse enthusiast. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War period and served on the initial crew of the USS Nimitz. He was formerly active in the Harmony Volunteer Fire Dept. Mr. Shrum attended Mitchell Community College in Statesville and Wingate College. On September 16, 1988 he married the former Linda Duchinski, who survives. Also surviving are one brother, Dennis N. Shrum III of Lexington, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Barbara S. Connolly of Greenville, South Carolina; and his step-mother, Mrs. Arlene H. Shrum of Statesville. Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Henry Cook officiating. Full military rites will be accorded at the graveside by V.F.W. Post #2031 of Statesville, Harold Littlefield Chapter #68 of the D.A.V. of Statesville and American Legion Post #217 of Statesville. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 Friday evening at the Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony. For those who prefer, memorials may be given to the church or the charity of the donor's choice. Reavis Funeral Home of Harmony is serving the Shrum family.

SIDDEN
TRAPHILL -- Mrs. Emily Ruth Norman Sidden, 88, of 13892 Traphill Road, Traphill, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 1999 at Wilkes Regional Medical Center in North Wilkesboro. Mrs. Sidden was born November 29, 1911 in Wilkes County to the late Arthur and Cora Hanks Norman. She was a homemaker and a member of Union Baptist Church. Mrs. Sidden was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Spencer Sidden, September 14, 1984; a daughter, Mrs. Irene Sidden Marion; two sons, Raymond Edward Sidden and James Arthur Sidden; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Cockerman and Mrs. Ruby Zinsman; and five brothers, Godfrey, Ford, Roby, Howard, and Linville Norman. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Betty Jean (H.C.) Norman of Hamptonville and Mrs. Cora Leigh Triplett of Winston-Salem; a son, William Howard ''Billy'' (Delrine) Sidden of Traphill; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Hattie Graham of Birmingham, Ala. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Union baptist Church at Traphill by Rev. Lee Mastin, Rev. Kenneth Wood, and Rev. E.R. Wiles. She will lie instate from 10:30-11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church, c/o Bonnie Sidden, 455 Solomon Drive, Long Bottom Road, Traphill, N.C. 28685. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home in Elkin.

WALKER
David Taylor Walker, Jr., died Monday, September 13, 1999 at Community General Hospital in Thomasville. He is the infant son of David W. Walker, Sr. and Christine J. Taylor. Services are incomplete and will be announced by Foster Funeral Home.
