LUCAS
Mr. Roger ''JAKE'' Lucas, 75, formerly of 2921 New Walkertown Road, Apt. L., passed away Wednesday, September 29, 1999 at the Nursing Center at Oak Summit following a period of illness. He was a native of Union, S.C., born September 8, 1924 to the late Lula Smith Lucas and James Arthur Lucas. He joined Beulah Baptist Church several years ago. ''JAKE'' formerly worked for over 50 years at Russell Funeral Home, where he established an extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Ada Lugenia Lucas. He leaves to cherish his memory, two sisters, Mildred L. Patterson and husband, James H. Patterson, of St. Louis, Mo. and Wanda L. Hill of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Clifton Lucas and wife, Darlene, of St. Louis, Mo. and James ''JACK'' Lucas of Winston-Salem; many nieces, nephews, first cousins, grand nieces, grand nephews; and a host of caring friends, on whose lives he made a profound impact. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 4, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Russell Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Ms. Carrie Means, 99, of Springwood Nursing Home passed away Thursday, September 30, 1999. Arrangements are incomplete. The body is at Beasley's Triad Funeral Home.
MOODY
Mrs. Lillian Wootton Moody, 91, formerly of Knollwood St., died Saturday, October 2, 1999 at Salemtowne Moravian Home. Mrs. Moody was born in Mecklenburg County, Va. on August 28, 1908 to Harvey Powell and Gracie Claiborne Wootton. She was a member of Northwest Baptist Church and had done alterations for Arcade Fashion Shop. She was a past matron of the Twin City Chapter #60 of the Order of the Eastern Star. In January of this year, she moved to Salemtowne. Mrs. Moody was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Hamilton Moody, Sr., in 1956. She is survived by one son, Eddie Hamilton Moody, Jr. and wife, Mary Susan, of Greensboro; two grandsons, Joel B. Moody and wife, Donna K., of Greensboro and Dr. Rex J. Moody and wife, Norma J., of Hillsborough; one great granddaughter, Helen Moody, of Hillsborough; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Frances M. Yarbrough, of Winston-Salem; and a number of nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 4 at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Chapel, with Dr. G. Jeffrey Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. MORRIS
Mr. H. Lester Morris, Sr. of 70 Park Blvd., Winston-Salem, died Thursday, September 30, 1999. He was born August 23, 1913 in Winston-Salem, N.C. to Francis William and Emma Shore Morris. Mr. Morris graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School, Class of 1931 and began his career at R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in August, 1931, which lasted until his retirement 47 years later in December, 1978. He joined Home Moravian Church in 1934 where he served on the Board of Elders, Music Committee, and Church Choir. Mr. Morris was the Director of Home Moravian Church Band and was recognized in 1997 for 75 consecutive years of playing the Moravian Easter Band. He played in the Moravian Band for 77 years. He also played in the N.C. 26th Regimental Band and played for many years in the Salem Band. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Clara Byerly Click Morris of the home; a daughter, Ann Morris Moore and husband, Ben of Mission Viejo, Calif.; a son, H. Lester Morris, Jr. and wife, Gail of Clemmons, N.C.; Four grandchildren, H. Lester Morris, III of Charlotte, N.C., John E. Morris of Winston-Salem, N.C., Ben Moore IV of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Susan Moore Nelson and husband, Chad of San Clemente, Calif. Also surviving are two brothers, Charles Morris and wife, Bernice of Winston-Salem, and Paul Morris of The Blumenthal Home in Clemmons; and two nephews. His brother Rev. Dr. F. Hubert Morris preceded him in death. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 3, 1999 at Home Moravian Church by Rev. C. Scott Venable, III and Dr. D. Wayne Burkette. Burial will follow in God's Acre. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice. Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel is serving the Morris family.
SAYERS
Mrs. Virginia West Sayers, 87, of Winston-Salem, died Saturday, October 2, 1999 at the Oaks at Forsyth. Mrs. Sayers was born October 17, 1911 in Dustin, Okla. to Howard Martin and Lillie Cutright West. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Winston-Salem and was a volunteer at Arbor Acres for 13 years. Mrs. Sayers was preceded in death by her husband, Clay A. Sayers. Surviving are a daughter, Dee McCandlish, of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, David L. Brown, of Maineville, Ohio; three grandsons, John McCandlish of Winston-Salem, David Allen Brown and wife, Vicki, of Bowling Green, Ky., and Greg Brown and wife, Anita, of Williamsburg, Ky.; two granddaughters, Patti Baker and husband, John, of Pleasant Plain, Ohio and Angie Gelly and husband, Bryant, of University Height, Ohio; seven great grandchildren; a sister, Lillian ''Tillie'' Davis, of Sarasota, Fla.; two nieces; and two nephews. A memorial service will be held 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 5, 1999 at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel by Dr. David Burr and Rev. Jeff White. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. SNOW
KERNERSVILLE -- Charles Franklin Snow, Jr., 80, of 1330 Union Cross Road, died Friday, October 1, 1999 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital. He was born in Forsyth County August 25, 1919, the son of Charles Franklin Snow, Sr. and Lake Grey Snow. He was a life member of First Baptist Church. He was also a member of Kernersville Masonic Lodge #669 A.F.A.M. and V.F.W. Post #5352, Kernersville. He attended Kernersville schools and Appalachain State College. He owned and operated Snow's Good Foods for 40 years. Surviving are his wife, Virginia Warren Snow, of the home; three sons, Charles Snow, III and wife, Susan, of Kernersville, Dwight Snow and wife, Susan, of Dunn, N.C., and Warren Snow of Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren, Miles, Greta, and Alexandra; and two sisters, Mrs. Cornelia Adams and Mrs. Teresa Edwards, both of Kernersville. Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m., Sunday, October 3 at First Baptist Church, with Rev. Sam Murphy and Rev. Amis Daniel officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, October 4, 1999 in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. Mrs. Hettie Cornelia Perrin Tolbot, 89, formerly of West 24th Street, passed away Saturday, September 25, 1999 at the Winston-Salem Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. She was a member of St. James AME Church, where she served on the Stewardess Board, the Senior Missionary, and the Lay organization as long as her health allowed. She is survived by nephews, William J. Tillman and Nelson Tolbert of Winston-Salem, James Yeldell of Waterbury, Conn., and George Yeldell of Charlotte, N.C.; nieces, Wilhelmenia T. Williams of Sacramento, Calif., and Mary Y. Grier and Carrie Y. Murray of Charlotte, N.C.; cousin, Evelyn Martin of New York; and devoted friends, Mattie Richardson and Fostina Tony. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 4, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Russell Funeral Home, with Reverend E.C. Hughes officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Mr. Alva Vinton Walker, 72, of 5410 Winona St., died Friday, October 1, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Walker was born May 2, 1927 in Hillsville, Va. to Roby L. and Clyde Jennings Walker. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Winston-Salem Friends Meeting, and a retired employee of Grandview Food Market. Surviving are his wife, Maline Holderfield Walker, of the residence; one brother, Kenneth G. Walker of Front Royal, Va.; and one sister, Ava Hull, of Galax, Va. The funeral will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 4 at Winston-Salem Friends Meeting. Judith Dancy and Willie Frye will officiate. PINNACLE -- Roxie Ann Bullin Ayers, 88, widow of Henry Leroy Ayers, of 115 Old Pinnacle Hotel Rd., Pinnacle, N.C., died Tuesday afternoon at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Mrs. Ayers was born in Stokes County, October 30, 1911, to Julius Martin Snyder and Cora Ann Mabe Bullin. She was a homemaker and retired farmer. She was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church of Pinnacle. Surviving are one daughter, Dr. Annette Ayers of the home and two brothers, Willie Bullin of Walnut Cove, N.C. and Emory Bullin of Walnut Cove, N.C. Mrs. Ayers was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Leroy Ayers (1971); one infant daughter, Norma Jean Ayers (1944); two brothers, Raleigh Bullin and Jim Bullin; and two sisters, Mamie Bennett and Mora Bullin. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 3, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Pinnacle by Rev. Wesley McLeod, Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Cox-Needham Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The family is being served by Cox-Needham Funeral Home in Pilot Mountain, N.C.
BADGETT
MT. AIRY -- Mr. Larry Nichols (Nicky) Badgett, 53, of 3195 Rockford St., Mt. Airy, N.C., husband of Mrs Jean Sawyers Badgett, passed away on Monday, November 30, 1999. Mr. Badgett was born in Surry County on January 27, 1946, son of Mrs. Bertie Nichols Badgett and the late Mr. Grady Brady Badgett, was a self-employed farmer, volunteer fireman with the White Plains Volunteer Fire Department of 20 years, veteran of the U.S. Army, and member of the White Plains Friends Meeting. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jean Sawyers Badgett of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Betsy Badgett Johnson and husband, Daryll of Mt. Airy; two sons and daughter-in-law, Todd Michael and Amanda Badgett of Mt. Airy and Chad Mitchell Badgett and fiancee', Paige Smith both of Mt. Airy; two granddaughters, Taylor Badgett and Jordan Badgett both of Mt. Airy; his mother, Mrs. Bertie Nichols Badgett of Mt. Airy; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Terry and Dwaine Badgett and Ricky and Debbie Badgett all of White Plains, N.C. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 3, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. at White Plains Friends Meeting conducted by the Rev. Robert Blake, Brian Smith, Kevin Harris and the Rev. Loyd Pugh with the burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
