BROWN
Mrs. Deborah Lynn Tuttle Brown, 41, of Winston-Salem, died Friday, April 16, 1999. She was born November 12, 1957 in Forsyth County to Horace G. and Nancy Owen Tuttle. Mrs. Brown was a member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School Teacher for eight years in the 3 year old class. She was a cashier at Brunson Elementary School cafeteria and had a special love for children. Surviving are her husband, Hank Brown; two sons, Patrick Jeremy Brown and Matthew James Brown, all of the home; her parents of Advance; two sisters, Donna Farrington of Advance and Cathy Williams of North Wilkesboro; one brother, Michael R. Tuttle of Atlanta, Ga., and a special friend, Cindy Parker of Advance. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 5000 Country Club Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27104.

COCKERHAM
Funeral services for Mr. Floyd Laymon Cockerham, Jr., 74, of Rt. 3 (The Little Richmond Community), Elkin, N.C. and also Winston-Salem, N.C., will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Little Richmond Primitive Baptist Church; Elder Richard Martin will be the eulogist and burial will follow in the church cemetery. He was born in Surry County, March 2, 1925, to the late Floyd Laymon, Sr. and Della Phillips Cockerham. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a retired employee of Roadway Trucking Company. He died Friday, April 16, 1999, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Parker of Kalamazoo, Mich., Mrs. Shirley McMillian of St. Louis, Mo., Ms. Ruby Cockerham, Mrs. Mary McCoy and Mrs. Teresa Howell, all of Winston-Salem, N.C.; three sons, Floyd Laymon Cockerham, III, Michael Cockerham, and Robert Cockerham, all of Winston-Salem, N.C.; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Treva Collins of Durham, N.C., Mrs. Hallie Dobson of Yadkinville, N.C., and Mrs. Willie Mae Penn of Mount Airy, N.C.; three brothers, Hoover Cockerham of Washington, D.C., James Cockerham and Nathaniel Cockerham, both of Elkin, N.C.; nieces, nephews and other relatives. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:30 until 2:00 p.m. at the church. At other times, the family may be contacted at the ''Home Place'' in Elkin. Spencer Funeral Directors of Mount Airy are in charge of services.

CONRAD
Mrs. Eva Mae Hutchins Conrad, 86, of 258 North Hawthorne Road, died Monday, April 19, 1999, at Fitzgerald Health Care Center of Arbor Acres/Triad United Methodist Home. She was born April 24, 1912 in Winston-Salem to Charles Shepherd and Ophelia Clinard Hutchins. Mrs. Conrad was a member of Calvary Moravian Church where she was active in various circles. She was a kindergarden teacher and was church secretary for a number of years at Fries Memorial Moravian Church. She was an active member of Forsyth Ostomy Association and served as a delegate to the National Convention of the American Cancer Society. On November 30, 1933, she married A. Ogburn Conrad who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Edith Garner and her brother, Hubert Hutchins. Survivors include two sons, Robert N. Conrad of Emerald Isle and Gene A. Conrad of Winston-Salem; one daughter, Karen C. Dorsett of Memphis, Tenn.; three grandchildren and four great grandchildren; and one half brother, Charles Edward Hutchins of Greensboro. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Vogler & Sons Main Street Chapel by Rev. David Merritt. Entombment will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Moravian Church, 600 Holly Ave., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101, or to The American Cancer Society, 1900 South Hawthorne Road, Forsyth Medical Park, Suite 622, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

FELTY
ROANOKE, VA. -- Margaret Stanley Felty, 75, of Roanoke, died Saturday afternoon, April 17, 1999, in a local hospital. She had been a resident at the Roanoke United Methodist Home since 1983. Born in Roanoke, the daughter of Samuel A. and Iva B. Stanley, she was the widow of the Rev. Dr. Beverly Felty. Mrs. Felty was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church and the Friendship Class there. The Felty's served Blacksburg United Methodist Church (Blacksburg), Chesterfield Heights (Richmond), Christ United Methodist Church (Arlington), Virginia Beach United Methodist Church (Virginia Beach), Ghent United Methodist Church (Norfolk), and Arlington United Methodist Church (Arlington). From 1971 to 1977, she resided in Danville while Dr. Felty was District Superintendent there of the Danville District. She was involved in Church Women United, United Methodist Women, the Couples Club, Chapter N of P.E.O., and various other groups. Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey W. Huffman (Gwen and Harvey) of Winston-Salem, N.C.; a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Michael L. Felty (Michael and Julie) of Alexandria; two granddaughters, Lisa Anne Huffman and Kathryn Leigh Huffman; a grandson, Jack R. Davis; a brother and his wife, the Rev. and Mrs. Samuel A. Stanley (Sam and Ruth) of Richmond; an uncle and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Charles K. Beard (Charles and Natilae) of Raleigh, N.C.; and also a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday from Raleigh Court United Methodist Church with the Rev. Roy P. White and the Rev. Bernard S. Via, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials gifts may be given to the Raleigh Court United Methodist Church (1706 Grandin Road, S.W., Roanoke, Va. 24015) or to the Samaritan Fund of the Roanoke United Methodist Home (1009 Old Country Club Road N.W., Roanoke, Va. 24017.

HAMPTON
JONESVILLE -- Mrs. Myrtle Jane Hampton, 81, of 516 Cedarbrook Road, Jonesville, passed away Sunday, April 18, 1999, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin. Mrs. Hampton was born February 6, 1918 in Wilkes County. A member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, she was a charter member of the Willing Workers Club and a member of the Senior Choir. Preceding her in death were her husband, Rev. John B. Hampton, Sr. on April 22, 1985; a son, Rev. James R. Hampton; a granddaughter, Whitney Hurt, and a sister, Mrs. Blanche Gwyn. Surviving are two sons, John B. Hampton, Jr. of Greensboro, and Charles M. Hampton of the VA Hospital in Martinsburg, W. Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Laura H. Hurt of the home, and Mrs. Bettye Evans of Priceton, W. Va.; 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church by Rev. Montreal Howell. The family will receive friends from 12-1 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Jonesville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Johnson Funeral Home in Elkin is in charge of arrangements.

HAYNES
WINSTON-SALEM -- Donald Carl Haynes, 64, of Winston-Salem, died Sunday morning, April 18, 1999, in Forsyth Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at First Reformed United Church of Christ in Lexington with the Rev. Mike Hooper officiating. Burial will take place in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Surviving are his wife, Mary Lou Haynes of the home; a son, Christopher Carl Haynes of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two daughters, Donna H. McCachern and husband, Larry, of Greensboro, N.C., and Amelia H. Smith and husband, Bill, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; five grandchildren: Robert William McCachern, Steven William Smith, Michelle Christine Smith, David Carl Smith and Meredith Lee Smith; two brothers and three sisters. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Church Parlor just prior to the service. Memorials may be directed to First Reformed United Church of Christ Organ Fund, 104 East Center Street, Lexington, N.C. 27292, or First Baptist Church, 501 West Fifth Street, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101. HEFNER
James Howard Hefner, Jr., 79, of Independence Manor in Winston-Salem, N.C., died April 17, 1999 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born in Catawba Co., October 4, 1919, to the late James H. (Jim) Hefner and Jessie L. Moser Hefner. He was a retired auto body mechanic and retired Army Veteran in W.W. II. A funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel United Church of Christ with the Rev. Jamie Fonville officiating. Mr. Hefner will be placed in the church 30 min. prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Randy Hefner, Ryan Benfield, Ricky Denkel, Adam Hatcher, Paul Hatcher and Zachery Hatcher. The family will receive friends following the service at the church in the Family Life Center. Burial will take place in the church cemetery. Survivors include a son, Jimmy Gordon Hefner of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; two grandsons, Tyler Hefner and Dwayne Hefner, and a granddaughter, Crystal Hefner, all of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a brother, Bill Hefner of Hickory; five sisters, Mrs. Howard (Dorothy) Barger of Newton, Mrs. Wm. P. (Frances) Denkel, Mrs. Forest (Carolyn) Thornburg, Ms. Peggy Hefner, and Mrs. Cloyd (Jackie) Benfield, all of Hickory. He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters. Memorials may be sent to Bethel United Church of Christ Memorial Fund, 4547 Bethel Church Rd., Hickory, N.C. 28602. Bass-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

JONES
Deacon Ernest Davis Jones, 79, of 5136 Pressman Drive, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 1999, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. He was born in Central, S.C. on May 11, 1919 to the late Eugene Jones and Matilda Pickens Jones. He had resided in the Winston-Salem area since 1956. Deacon Jones was co-founder of the New Unity Baptist Church where he faithfully served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, and was a member of the Sunday School. He was a self employed contractor and brick mason. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years, Juanita Jones of the home; one son, Ervin (Karen) Jones of Philadelphia, Pa.; one daughter, Linda Ernestine Jones Martin of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Marc Jones, and Marcia (Emmitt) Ross, both of Philadelphia, Pa., Juanka (Rick) Smith, and Nicole Martin, both of Winston-Salem; six great grandchildren: Rosa Jones, Dimming Jones, Maia Ross, Jair Isiah Ross, Rikira Smith, Kirsten Smith; five brothers: Lawrence Jones, Melvin (Doris) Jones, Eugene (Della) Jones, Robert Jones and Harrison Jones; three sisters: Eddie (John) Pruitt, Ozena Clark, and Carrie Jones; many other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at 1:00 p.m. from the New Unity Baptist Church with Pastor Johnny E. Scott officiating. Interment will follow in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from 12:30 until 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the New United Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the General Fund of the New Unity Baptist Church and/or HOSPICE of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County, INC. (RUSSELL)

JOYCE
Mr. James E. Joyce departed this life April 15, 1999, in Baltimore, Maryland. He is survived locally by a sister, Miss Alma E. Joyce. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Miracle Baptist Church in Baltimore. His body is reposing at the Albert P. Wylie Funeral Home, 638 North Gilmore St., Baltimore, Md. 21217.

KERRIGAN
Mr. Robert Francis Kerrigan, 82, of 1903 Saffron Place, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born April 11, 1917 in Ohio to Frank and Irene Coughlin Kerrigan. Mr. Kerrigan owned and operated the Kopper Kitchen Restaurant in downtown Winston-Salem for over 29 years. Surviving are two sons, Ronald M. Kerrigan of Kernersville, and Barry J. Kerrigan and wife, Paula, of Cleveland, Ohio; two daughters, Kathleen Boyajy and husband, Richard, of Burnt Hills, N.Y., and Barbara J. Halloram of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Mary Mcgee Kerrigan of Winston-Salem; 11 grandchildren and one great grandson; and a very special friend, Viola Williams. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Rev. Norwood Green will officiate. Entombment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and request memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 1386-A Westgate Center Drive, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103-2949.
