CLARK
MOUNT AIRY -- Mr. Edward Thorne Clark Sr., 84, of 1118 N. Main St., Mount Airy, husband of Mrs. Heeth Hendren Clark, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Twelve Oaks Rest Home, Mount Airy. Mr. Clark was born on Nov. 24, 1915, in Roanoke Rapids, N.C., the son of the late Alexander Littleton and Clara Belle Foy Clark. Mr. Clark was owner and operator of Clark and Parker Lumber Co. for 43 years; member of Granite Masonic Lodge #322 A.F.& A.M.; member of Claude E. Hooker V.F.W. Post 2019; served as Mayor of Mount Airy from 1961 to 1969; veteran of the U.S. Army having served during World War II and member of Central United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Heeth Hendren Clark of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Heeth and Rainer McCown of Columbia, Md., and Clara Anne and Jeff Walters of Chadds Ford, Pa.; three sons and daughters-in-law, Williams Crawford Clark of the home; Edward Thorne Clark Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Rockwell, N.C., and Ernest Sherwood and Vernita Clark of Reno, Nev.; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Clara Belle Stegman of New York, N.Y., and Mary Miles Radcliffe of Fort Myers, Fla; and by a brother, David Clark of Asheville. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Phillips Cole with burial to follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Central United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1909 North Main St., Mount Airy, N.C. 27030.

CORVEY
PINEHURST -- Edward Regin Corvey, 83, died Jan. 28, 2000, at Penick Village. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Village Chapel with Chaplains Edward Galloway and William McInnis officiating. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Doub Corvey; a son, Edward R. Corvey Jr. of Winston-Salem; daughters, Patricia C. Kelso of Charlotte, Dale C. Malley of Louisville, Colo., and Carolyn C. Cranston of St. Louis, Mo.; and 10 grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Penick Village, P.O. Box 2001, Southern Pines, N.C. 28388 or to the Village Chapel, P.O. Box 1060, Pinehurst, N.C. 28370. Powell Funeral Home and Crematory of Southern Pines is serving the family.

DANIELS
WALKERTOWN -- Mrs. Nora Tucker Daniels, 69, of Walkertown passed away Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born August 29, 1930, to Jewel Davis and Harold Lindsey Tucker. Mrs. Daniels was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church and was retired from Medical Park Hospital. She was preceded in death by a son, Randall M. Daniels, and a brother, William Tucker. Surviving are a husband, Mr. Glenn Milton Daniels of the home; one daughter, Glenna J. Daniels and husband, James H. Roberts, of Mount Airy; one son, Mr. Mark Daniels of Walkertown; two grandchildren who were her pride and joy, Brandon G. Daniels and Joshua M. Heath; and one sister, Mrs. Betty Helms of Fresno, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Edgewood Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Odom and Rev. Joe McWethy officiating. Burial will follow in the Gardens of Memory in Walkertown. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Edgewood Baptist Church, c/o Kelly Sowers Missionary Fund, 4067 Reidsville Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101.

FERGUSON
ELKIN -- Mrs. Carrie Hayes Ferguson, 78, of 178 Oakgrove Road in Elkin died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. She was born in Surry County on April 16, 1921, to the late James Everette Hayes and Gaynell Saunders Hayes. She was married to C.W. Ferguson, who survives. A brother, Joseph Lester Hayes, and two sisters, Doretha Elizabeth Dalton and Opal Josephine Porter, all preceded her in death. Mrs. Ferguson was educated in the Surry County Schools and was a lifelong member of St. Home Missionary Baptist Church in Elkin, where she served as church clerk, president of the Missionary Circle and deaconess. She was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Senior Choir. Surviving, in addition to her husband, are a stepson and his wife, William Melvin and Cathy Ferguson of Winston-Salem; a stepdaughter and her husband, Geral and Gene Martin of Ronda; five brothers and two daughters-in-law, James Hayes, Dr. Daniel Hayes, Paul Justice Hayes, and Samuel and Jessie Hayes, all of Elkin, and Robert Nelson and Nellie Hayes of Charlotte; a sister, Juanita Hayes Glasgow of Charlotte; three godchildren, Nellie Dalton and Deborah Turner, both of Elkin, and Karey Sutton of Greensboro; eight step-grandchildren; six step-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 2, at 2 p.m. at St. Home Missionary Baptist Church in Elkin. The Rev. Clarence Hairston will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Members of the family will receive friends at the church from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, but will gather at the home at other times. Arrangements are being handled by Rutledge and Bigham Funeral Home in Statesville.

GRANT
Revelations 21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there by any more pain; for the former things are passed away. Mr. Allen Grant, 52, of 1223 E. 24th St., the son of Alice Pyett and the late Roosevelt Grant, was born in Florence County, S.C., and went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at the Wake Forest University-Baptist Medical Center. He was a native of Pamplico, S.C., where he joined Mount Zion Baptist Church at an early age. He resided in Winston-Salem most of his life and was a former employee of G&S Cleaning Service. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, from Mount Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Calvin Daniel officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorials Gardens. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service at the church. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Marie B. Grant of Winston-Salem; his mother, Alice Pyett, and stepfather, Henry Pyett of Winston-Salem; stepmother, Beulah Mae Grant of Scranton, S.C.; three sisters, Annie G. (Lee) Smith of Winston-Salem, Janette G. (Joe) Lewis of Eiffingham, S.C., and Shirby Grant of Scranton; five brothers, William Grant of Winston-Salem, Nelson Grant of Florence, S.C., Roosevelt (Linda) Grant Jr. and C.W. Grant, both of Columbia, S.C. and L.C. Grant of Pamplico, S.C.; five aunts, Charlina Bell of Millbranch, S.C., Gwen (Jimmy) of Philadelphia, Pa., Mary Sue Bostick of Pamplico, S.C., Naomi Bostick, of Columbia, S.C., Betty Bostick and Aretha Grant, both of Pamplico; a very devoted friend, Shirley Wilson of Winston-Salem; and a host of many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The family may be contacted and the cortege will assemble and leave from the residence at noon Wednesday. (HOOPER)

HALL
Jakob Matthew Hall, infant son of Harley Edwin and Christina Lee Hall, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at The Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem. He was born in Forsyth County, Jan. 25, 2000. Surviving are his parents of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Michael Christian Nichols and Alexander Bryce Hall; maternal grandparents, Ernest Malcolm and Patricia Pauline Hall; paternal grandparents, Thomas Edwin Hall and Diane Stanley; paternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.G. Stanley and Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Hall; his aunts and uncles, Jeffrey and Heather Hall, Tammy and Richard Kincaid, Beverly Staton, Sheryl Davies, Leigh Anna Marie Lampkin and Sandy Alspaugh; and a number of cousins. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at 2 p.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church in King with Rev. Sam Sorrells officiating. The casket will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior of the service. Slate Funeral Home in King is in charge of the arrangements.

JOHNSON
HARMONY -- Bobby Darrell Johnson, 35, of 246 Renegar Rd., Harmony, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born April 24, 1964, to Thomas ''Bruce'' and Sarah Shore Johnson of Harmony. He was a graduate of North Iredell High School, a mechanic with the Yadkin County School System and attended New Hope Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Cindy Hardee Johnson; a son, Dakota Dustin Johnson of the home; a sister, Louise Johnson Gaither of Mooresville; a brother, Harry ''Dean'' Johnson and wife, Ruby Lee, of Harmony; nephew, Sammy Johnson and wife, Robin; niece, Tori Dee Gaither; and great-nephew, Dayton Johnson. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Reavis Funeral Home Yadkinville Chapel conducted by Rev. Larry Anderson. Burial will be in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

LASHMIT
KERNERSVILLE -- Theophaleus Bennett ''Top'' Lashmit, 77, of Mountain St. died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at his residence. Mr. Lashmit was born Feb. 2, 1922, in Winston-Salem to Fred and Myrtle Robertson Lashmit and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Alice Lee Lashmit of the residence; two daughters, Margaret Cecil and husband, Tony, of Walkertown and Ann Ayers and husband, Julius, of Rural Hall; two sons, Robert and Henry Lashmit of Walkertown; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at 11 a.m. in Gardens of Memory Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Vogler & Sons Main Street Funeral Home.

LAWSON
GREENSBORO -- Willie Tedder Lawson, 85, of 1560 Skeet Club Rd., High Point, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital, High Point. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service Chapel conducted by Rev. Jesse Bledsoe with burial in Lakeview Memorial Park. Mrs. Lawson was born Dec. 16, 1914, in Forsyth County to the late Rufus L. and Laveda Yates Tedder. She was a member of Hopeview Presbyterian Church. She was retired from Cone Mills White Oak Plant. Surviving are her husband, Robert ''David'' Lawson of the home; two daughters, Mary ''Tweet'' Mullis and husband, Mac, of Tobaccoville and Joyce Lynn Lawson of Greensboro; three sons, Robert ''Sonny'' Lawson and wife, Lois, of Winston-Salem, James ''Buster'' Lawson and wife, Judy, of Greensboro and Richard ''Dickie'' Lawson and friend, Jane, of Greensboro; a sister, Margaret M. Bowman of Greensboro; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at Lambeth-Troxler Funeral Service and other times at the home of Buster Lawson, 5800 N. Church St., Greensboro.

MATHIS
Rose Waynick Mathis, 65, passed away Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at Baptist Hospital after a three-year battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 17, 1934, to Andrew Bernard and Mary Holden Waynick in Greensboro. After graduation from high school, she moved to Winston-Salem, where she graduated from Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in 1955. She worked for Baptist Hospital for 40 years, most of which were spent in the emergency department. She received the honor of being inducted into ''The Great 100'' nursing association in the state of North Carolina. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Helen Marie Smith Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Billie J. Mathis, in July 1997. She has joined him for eternity in Heaven. She is survived by three children: two sons Steve (Ruth) and Ronnie (Beth) of Winston-Salem, and a daughter, Karen (Clyde) Crutchfield of Yadkinville; and seven grandchildren: Sarah, David, Kristen, Joseph, Benjamin, John and Marie. She is also survived by seven brothers and sisters: Lib Hanson and Lena Bousman of Naples, Fla., James Waynick of Nashville, Tenn., Katherine Gesell of State College, Pa., Helen Brewer of Everglades City, Fla., Jack Waynick of Charlotte and Tom Waynick of Ganado, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Salem Baptist Church, 429 S. Broad Street, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Vogler & Sons Funeral Home on Reynolda Road. The funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Baptist Church. The Rev. Floyd Boles will officiate.
