RICHLANDS – The Reverand Virgil B. Lawless, 70, Rutledge, Tenn., died Oct. 1, 1999. He was a native of Jefferson City, Tenn., son of the late Arvil and Una Vee Lawless, member South Gastonia Church of God, entered the ministry in 1954, held revivals in many states and the Bahamas, founded in 1963 Trinity Holiness Church in Richlands and pastor there until 1975, founded in 1984 Fellowship Camp Meeting in Rutledge, Tenn., evangelized the Greater Knoxville-East Tennessee area, owner and operater of Lawless Termite Control since 1966.

BESSEMER CITY – Barbara Eaker Heafner, 89, 2520 Tryon Courthouse Road, died Oct. 5, 1999, at Carolina Care, Cherryville. She was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late Hiram Richard and Ola Blalock Eaker, sister of the late Everette E., Loyd L., Richard Forrest and Mabel Pearl Eaker, Mardecia Eaker Harrill, educated in Gaston County and UNC-Greensboro, held a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and library science, school librarian, served four years at Stanley School, Gaston County and New Hanover High School, Wilmington, returned to Gaston County in 1937 to be county librarian, retired in 1979 as director of Gaston-Lincoln Regional Library System, served more than 45 years as librarian, worked on public library election committees, helped secure state aid for public libraries in 1949, served as member of the N.C. Public Library Certification Commission during 1973-1977, member of Concord United Methodist Church, Altrusa Club, Gastonia, Delta Kappa Lama Society Rho Chapter, League of Women Voters, N.C. Retired Government Employees Association, Gaston County Historical Association, Gaston County Museum of Arts and History, life member of American Library Association since 1985, N.C. Library Association since 1983 and American Library Association since 1985.
