She was a native of Lincoln County, daughter of the late George and Minnie Hauss Whitesides, wife of the late William Carpenter, member of Pisgah United Methodist Church, retired dietary aide with Lincoln Medical Center.

She was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late Claude and Mattie Watson Byers, wife of the late Haskell Carter, sister of the late Alma Cody, worked for several department stores in the community.

She was a native of McAdenville, daughter of the late George Luther and Minnie Helderman Wright, wife of the late James Howard Brandon Sr., eighth of nine children last surviving member of her immediate family, pianist for McAdenville Baptist Church, pianist, organist and member of Cramerton Presbyterian Church, member of Grace Covenant Church, Covington.
