He was a native of Belmont, son of the late William and Jessie Hoffman Armstrong, graduate of Belmont High School, attended Belmont Abbey College, member of the Air National Guard in Charlotte, former member of the Drum and Bugle Corps of Gastonia, former member of the Lake Norman Flottia’s, worked as independent insurance adjuster in Shelby and Lake Norman.
