She was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late Thomas Satterwythe and Mary Jane Royster, wife of the late Edgar Harrison Goff, sister of the late Mary Royster Beam, Nannie Berthenia, Kathryn Jones, John Edwin and Theordore Satterwythe Royster Sr., graduated from Tryon High School and Catawba College, she and her sister Kathryn were the first two Gaston County women to volunteer for World War II, served in WAVES, the female branch of the Navy from 1942 to 1945, featured in Soldier’s Stories, Bessember City Elementary librarian for 20 years, elected media coordinator, voted Teacher of the Year and Woman of the Year, member Women’s Republican Party, Education Society Delta Kappa Gamma, Concord United Methodist Church, Bessember City
