He was a native of Calhoun, Ga., son of the late James and Mary Parker Hankins, stepfather of the late Clinton Sparks, brother of the late James, Eva and Jewel, retired plant manager from Burlington Mills, member of Lincolnton Lions Club since 1948 in Mount Holly and Lincolnton, served as president in 1974 and 1975, Lion of the Year for 1971-1972 and 1977-1978, received the Jack Stickley award, active in Lions Club until 1999, member of First Baptist Church, Fellowship Sunday School class.
