He was a native of York County, S.C., son of the late Jewell Thomas Meeler, retired poly-grapher and dispatcher from Belmont Police Department, former disc jockey for WAPE, Jacksonville, Fla., and York and Rock Hill radio stations, substitute teacher in Gaston County, ordained Baptist minister, graduate of Rock Hill High School, Winthrop University, studied at Southeastern Seminary, member of First Baptist Church of Cramerton.

She was daughter of the late Charles G. and Margie Rhyne Whitesides, preceded in death by an infant son, Jerry Loftin Jr., honors graduate of Linconton High School, attended Baptist Hospital Nursing School, worked many years in maternity at Gaston Memorial Hospital and in Cardiac Intensive Care at Crowell Hospital and Lincoln Medical Center before retirement.

NEWTON — Mary Page Haigler, 86, Abernathy Center, died Jan. 25, 2000. She was a native of Lincoln County, daughter of the late Harry and Addie Hoover Page, wife of the late Earl Haigler, sister of the late Harry, George and Paul Page, Jane P. Little and Ann P. Webster, grew up attending St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, later became member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Statesville, graduated from Lincolnton High School, Woman’s Hospital of Philadelphia School of Nursing and School of Nursing Anesthetists, Chicago, instructor of anesthesia at Duke University, Durham, also worked in Fayetteville, Wilmington and Statesville.

Scott Hamrick
CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. — Samuel Scott Hamrick, 66, 1000 Park St., died Jan. 24, 2000, at Hospice Unit of Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was a native of Cleveland County, son of the late Ed and Olivia Gardner Hamrick, brother of the late Keslar and Glenn Hamrick, Louise Harris, attended Gardner Webb College, 1955 graduate of Appalachian University, advanced degrees in education from the University of Virginia, retired lifelong educator, worked 11 years in public schools in Danville, Va., and 1966-1991 worked in Charlottesville public schools, member of First Baptist Church of Charlottesville, member and officer of Phi Delta Kappa and Kappa Delta Phi, vice president of Virginia Association of Elementary Principals for two years, helped develop a volunteer patient advocate program at Martha Jefferson Hospital, served as chairman for three years, adjunct faculty member of Virginia Commonwealth University and Longwood College.
