He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Ellison Roy and Zettie Whitley Long, retired foreman from Union Carbide after 30 years, longtime member of First Baptist Church of Stanley, deacon, a teller for more than 30 years, member of Senior Citizens group and Senior Choir.
