Ethel Noblitt Perterson
KINGS MOUNTIAN — Ethel Noblitt Peterson, 86, of 810 Rhodes Ave., died August 19, 2000 at Kings Mountain Hospital.
She was a native of Gaston County, daughter of the late Charles and Maggie Kiser Noblitt and wife to the late R.A. "Pete" Peterson. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Kings Mountain, and she was a homemaker.
SURVIVORS: Daughter and son-in-law, Beth and Bert Smith; brother, Gene Noblitt, Newton; loved like a son, Charlie and Catherine Noblitt, Ashville; nieces, Mildred Russell, Kings Moutain, Margaret Sigmon, Stanley, Geneva Hunter, JoAnn Barringer, Bessemer City; nephew, Bob Nonlitt, Bessemer City; grandchildren, Brenda and Steve Koinis, Spring Texas, Brad and Cara Smith, Louisville, Ky, Rebekah and Michael Nanfria, Chicago, Caroline and Colin Ackinson, Efland, Suzanne and Leslie Buesing, Hillborough; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Tony, Taylor, Madeline, and Katie.

June Houlditch
KINGS MOUNTAIN — June Houlditch, 80, Woodbridge, died Aug. 21, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Washington, D.C., daughter of the late J. Rowe and Irma Thomas Mehlfelt, wife of the late Sam Houlditch, worked at the Pentagon during World War II, secretary to Joint Chiefs of Staff Intelligence Committee, moved to Shelby in 1971, instrumental in forming the Reach to Recovery Program of American Cancer Society, honored with the Terese Lasser and Sword of Hope awards for extensive volunteer work for breast cancer survivors, received Governor’s Award, Golden Rule Award, active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, lay speaker, Sunday school teacher, Stephen Minister, board member.
SURVIVORS: Sons, George Sam Houlditch III and wife Gina, Gainesville, Ga., Jim Houlditch and wife Deborah, Cleveland County; daughter, Dorothy Houlditch, Cleveland County; grandchildren, Emily, Perry, Chris and Jonathan Houlditch, Sarah and Kaitlin Houlditch-Fair

GASTONIA — Willard Jenkins Gardner, 98, Gaston Place, 1750 Robinwood Road, died Aug. 21, 2000, at home.
She was a native of Gastonia, daughter of the late George A Sr. and Eula Anders Jenkins, wife of the late Warren Y. Gardner, active in national Hemerocallis Society, won national awards, served as a consultant, instrumental in founding four local garden clubs, served as an officer of the Garden Council for many years, volunteer for Gaston County Cancer Society, secretary for Pioneer Girl Scout Council, member of First United Methodist Church, belonged to a circle.
SURVIVORS: Daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Robert H. Crockett, Gastonia; grandchildren, Ann G. THOMASVILLE — David Ralph Owen, 75, of 109 Virginia Dr., died August 20, 2000 in the Community General Hospital.
He was a native of Davidson County, son of the late George Albert and Bessie Leatha Spainhour Owen. He was owner and operator of Owen’s Sanding Shop, veteran of U.S. Army, serving during WWII. He was a member of Thomasville Friends Church.

He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Luther and Ersie Miller Johnson. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, and was a retire tool and dye maker with United Technologies in Columbus, Miss.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Linda Ham Johnson; sons, Gary Steven Johnson, Moody Ala, Danny Johnson, Columbia Miss.; daughter, Beverly Johnson Columbia, Miss.; brothers, Manuel Johnson, Stanley, John Luther Johnson Jr., Harvey Bryant, Mount Holly; sisters, Mary Simpson, Evelyn Gosnell, Mount Holly.
