He was a native of Lincoln County, son of the late Avery and Amey Laney Whitesides, member of Southside Baptist Church, retired from Carolina Mills with 24 years of service.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Georgia Martin Whitesides; son, Sammy Whitesides, Vale; daughters, Pauline Crowe, Laruie Beal, Lincolnton, Betty Rudisill, Crouse; sister, Ruth Gibson, Lincolnton; five granddaughters; two great-grandchildren

He was a native of Gaston County, son of the late Arthur and Emma Stinson Poole, husband of the late Betty Cupp Poole, member of Centerview Baptist Church, Navy veteran of World War II, volunteer firefighter with McAdenville Volunteer Fire Department for 28 years, served from 1962-1990, awarded for outstanding service and dedication for 1968-1990, retired from Pharr Yarns, member of Lowell Masonic Lodge, 1972 Man of the Year, former deacon at Lakeview Baptist Church.
