He was a native of Lincoln County, son of the late William Ryan Nallie and Rosa Mae Belle Brooks Barker, retired longline driver for Carolina Freight Carriers Corp. after 27 years of service, member of Shady Grove Baptist Church of Cherryville, 1979 winner of driver of the year for the state of North Carolina.
