Fount Rion Jr.
E. Palatka, Fla. - Fount H. Rion, Jr., 80, died March 21, 2000, at his residence after a short illness.
He was a Nashville, Tenn. native and had lived in Putnam County for the past 72 years, coming from Kissimmee, Fla. He was a member and former chairman of the board of St. James United Methodist Church and served as chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy aboard minesweepers in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member and past President of Palatka Kiwanis Club, past Lieutenant Governor of the Florida District of Kiwanis, past president of the Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, past president of Rodeheaver Boys Ranch and trustee of the Homer Rodeheaver Trust.
He was chairman of the Putnam County Hospital Authority, past president of the Palatka Yacht Club and a founding member of the Palatka Skeet Club. At the time of his death, he was co-chairman of the board of Florida Furniture Industries and was a director with Sun Trust Bank and its predecessor banks for more than 30 years.
He was past president of the Southern Furniture Manufactures Association (now American Furniture Manufacturers Association) and he received that organization’s highest award, the Distinguished Service Award, in 1992. He was a member of the board and former chairman of the Atlanta Merchandise Mart and in 1951, he received the Palatka Jaycees Distinguished Service Award as “Young Man of the Year.” He was an avid sportsman and hunter and a sailboat enthusiast.
Surviving are his wife of 18 years, Ann W. Rion; a son, Fount H Rion III of Interlachen; stepdaughter, Barbara Civlla of Newnan, Ga.; stepson, Roger Maddox of San Francisco; two sisters, Elizabeth Unkel and Julia Ellars, both of Orlando; a sister-in-law, Carolyn Rion of Gainesville; and four grandchildren, Fount H. “Hank” Rion IV of Vero Beach, Todd Rion of Palatka, Alice Coggin and Drew Coggin, both of Newnan, Ga.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. James United Methodist Church by the Rev. Hardy B. Sandlin III. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home.
The Palatka Kiwanis Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Rebecca Tysinger
Greensboro - Mrs. Rebecca “Becky” Johnson Tysinger, 49, succumbed to a battle with breast cancer, March 22, 2000, at Hospice Unit of Moses Cone Hospital.
She was born May 5, 1950, in International Falls, Minn., a daughter of Dorothy Marie Johnson and Bruce Aldice Johnson. She graduated from International Falls High School, where she enjoyed playing drums for the school marching band and won the Betty Crocker Homemaker of the Year award. She attended Dental Technology School in Minnesota and then moved to Charleston, S.C., where she met Dr. John Reed Tysinger, on a blind date, and on July 31, they were married. She and her husband lived in Washington, D.C. and Landstuhl, Germany, before settling in Greensboro. She was a dental assistant in International Falls, Minn. and in Washington, D.C. and later operated Jane Street Learning Center in Greensboro. However, the jobs she took the most pride and pleasure in were being a wife, a mother and grandmother. She was an active member of High Point First Wesleyan and the Toolshed Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her father.
Surviving are her husband of 29 years; four daughters, Leah Rebecca Tysinger, Kara Anne Tysinger, Hannah Marie Tysinger and Janice Lynn Walker; her son-in-law, Britton Walker; two grandchildren, Tristan and Brittany Walker; her mother, Dorothy Johnson of Greensboro; and her brother, Gary Johnson of New Hampshire.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Hanes-Lineberry, North Elm Street Chapel, by the Rev. Aaron Willis of High Point First Wesleyan. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Halcie Beeson
Sophia - Mrs. Halcie Millikan Beeson, 86, of 4305 Beeson Farm Road died March 20, 2000, at her residence.
She was a member of Marlboro Friends Meeting where she served as an elder for several years, chairperson of the building committee in 1971 and was active in the missionary circle, USFW Circle #1. She was a member of the Randleman Library Board and served as chairperson of the New Market Community Building. She was Randolph County “Mother of the Year” in 1972. She was preceded in death by her brother, Watson Millikan and a sister, Hazel Davis.
Surviving are her husband, Colbert Beeson; her son, Elmer (Adis) Beeson; four daughters, Mrs. Wade (Marie) Pugh, Mrs. Jimmy (Jo Ann) Short, Mrs. Theodore B. (Sue) Pugh and Mrs. Chris (Karen) Hinshaw, all of Sophia; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a brother, Azel Milikan of Sophia; five sisters, Lola Davis, Marie Hill and Ina Lee White, all of Archdale, Bernice Davis of Randleman and Bettye Ridge of Sophia.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Marlboro Friends Meeting by the Rev. Bob Medford. Burial will be in Marlboro Friends Meeting Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman.

Callie Carter
High Point - Mrs. Callie Morgan Carter, 79, of East Fairfield Road died March 20, 2000, at her residence.
She was born July 10, 1920, in Anson County, a daughter of David Early and Lillie Anna Whitley Morgan. She was a resident of High Point most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of First Wesleyan Church and the Willing Workers Sunday School Class. In 1938, she was married to James Thomas Carter, who preceded her in death in 1991.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Jane Wall and her husband, Stephen, of Archdale; a son, Danny Carter and his wife, Janet, of Randleman; four grandchildren, James D. Carter, Stephen Aaron Wall, Brooke C. Wall and Jessica Carter; two brothers, Buddy Morgan of California and David Morgan of Tennessee; two sisters, Mrs. Betty Gobble of Lexington and Mrs. Erlene Everhart of California.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Wesleyan Church by the Rev. Aron P. Willis and the Rev. James Smith. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, and other times at the residence of Stephen and Jane Wall, 3327 Longview Drive, Archdale.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

Rex Saintsing
Greensboro - Rex D. Saintsing, 79, died March 19, 2000, at his residence.
He was born in Davidson County, the youngest of seven brothers and a sister. He spent his career at Western Electric and retired in the 1970s. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II.
Surviving are his three daughters, Cathie S. Noe of Miami, Fla., Wendee L. Saintsing of Greensboro and Cindee Saintsing-Bridges of Greensboro and her husband, Tim, of Jamestown; and his beloved best friend, Kirbee.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Clifton Road Baptist Church, 3815 Clifton Road. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, N.C. 27405.
Hanes-Lineberry, Sedgefield Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Smith
Randleman - Ms. Mary Sue Bray Smith, 60, died March 20, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Pugh Funeral Home.

Arnold Hunt
Kernersville - Arnold Virgil Hunt, 78, of 2817 N.C. 66 South, formerly of Oakview Road, died March 22, 2000, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
He was born Oct. 14, 1921, in Randolph County, a son of William Everett and Claudie Trotter Hunt. He retired after 36 years as a driver for Flavorich Inc. and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II. He was married to the former Jessie William, who preceded him in death Aug. 17, 1986.
Surviving are two sons, Eugene Hunt of Kernersville and Glenn Virgil Hunt of California; two stepsons, Jesse T. Hunt of High Point and Jack D. Hunt of Archdale; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Thomas of Asheboro and Mrs. Mary Ann Green of Seagrove; five brothers, Coy Hunt, W.E. Hunt, Harland Hunt and Jerry Hunt, all of Asheboro and Raymond Hunt of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Donald R. Winters. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Asheboro - Ralph Edward Carpenter, 68, of 616 Crystal Wood Road, died March 25, 2000 in his home.

High Point - Earlie Cox, 79, of 5814 Checker Road, died March 25, 2000 in his home.

High Point - Oliver Arnold Craven Jr., 80, of 713 Huntington Drive, died March 25, 2000 at High Point Regional Hospital.

Lessie Farlow
Asheboro - Lessie Dorsett Farlow, 93, of Randleman, died March 24, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

William Fields Sr.
Aiken, S.C. - William Larry Fields Sr., 74, died March 24, 2000 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Services will be private.

Jimmie Hayes
High Point - Jimmie D. Hayes, 60, of 314-A Brentwood St., died March 23, 2000 at Sunbridge of the Triad where he had been a patient 9 days.
Mr. Hayes was born in Marlboro County, S.C., a son of Allen Hayes and Fannie Thomas Hayes. He was a resident of High Point for 30 years and last employed in janitorial service. He was of the Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his father, two brothers, James and Tommy Hayes, and a sister, Maggie Hayes.
Surviving relatives are two sons, the Rev. Charles Bethea of Dillon, S.C. and Michael Dawkins of High Point; one daughter, Ms. Sarah Bethea of Brooklyn, N.Y.; grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Fannie Thomas Hayes of the home; two sisters, Mrs. Juanita Brown of Dillon, S.C. and Mrs. Helen Wilks of High Point; two aunts; one uncle; nieces; nephews; cousins; two sisters-in-law; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Roy Fitzgerald. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel and other times at the residence. Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Hicks
Thomasville - Mrs. Lillian Ramelle Hall Hicks, 86, a former resident of Julian Avenue, died March 24, 2000 at Britthaven of Davidson.
She was born Sept. 10, 1913 in Stanley County, a daughter of Samuel E. and Marcissus Morgan Hall. She was employed by Ragan Hosiery Mill for 25 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Grace Ragan Sunday School Class. On Sept. 9, 1933 she married Thomas Lee Hicks who preceded her in death May 29, 1983.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Gary R. (Rosemary) Hicks Clodfelter of Thomasville; one son, Thomas J. Hicks of Thomasville; one sister, Mrs. Margie Saunders of High Point; six grandchildren, Thomas James Hicks Jr., David Neil Hicks, Timothy Scott Hicks, Patricia Lynn Hicks, Michelle Starr LaPradd and Melanie Leigh Sikes; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church by the Revs. Jack Stratas and Marsden R. Kitley. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will be at Family Funeral Care, 18 Randolph St., until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 p.m. Monday and other times at the home of the daughter, Mrs. Rosemary Clodfelter, 204 Timberland Drive, Thomasville.
