William Chambers
High Point - William Utley Chambers, 87, of 3300 Woodview Drive died May 9, 2000, at Evergreens Nursing Home.
He was born Oct. 21, 1912, in Wayne County, a son of William and Nannie Utley Chambers. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburg. He served several major furniture advertising agencies. He was a U.S. Army Air Corp veteran, having served during World War II and in Europe with the 17th Bomb Group. He was a scout master at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Troop #4 for many years. He attended the Scout National Jamboree with the scouts from High Point at Valley Forge in 1950. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. On March 13, 1943, he married Evelyn Burkhouse, who preceded him in death Aug. 24, 1995.
Surviving are a daughter, Jean Bushawn of High Point; a son, Jerry Chambers and his wife, Chrys, of Wallburg; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one stepgrandson; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Chapel by the Rev. Richard Crowder. Inurnment will be in the church columbarium. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point.
Memorials may be directed to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1225 Chestnut Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

David Crotts
Asheboro - David Crotts, 86, died May 8, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Kerney Ferrell
High Point - Kerney Erolia Ferrell, 70, of 3404 Rolling Road died May 8, 2000, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 4, 1926, a son of Willis Edwards Sr. and Mary Lanier Ferrell, who both preceded him in death. He was a lifelong resident of High Point. On March 5, 1949, he married the former Colleen Dowdy, who survives of the residence. He also was preceded in death by a brother, W.E. Ferrell Jr.
Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Libertore and her husband, Ray, of High Point and Debbie Lapping and her husband, Bill, of Thomasville; four grandchildren, Chris and Brad Libertore, Steven Hooper and Stephanie Jacobs; and two sisters, Estelle Parrish of Archdale and Kathleen Robinson of High Point.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Stephen L. Welborn. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

Helen Frazier
High Point - Mrs. Helen Lois Wood Frazier, 90, of Oakview Assisted Living, formerly of Trinity, died May 8, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born March 4, 1910, in High Point, a daughter of William Marvin and Annie Lillie Johnston Wood, who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, the Mother's Bible Class and United Methodist Women of which she was a lifetime member. On Nov. 30, 1929, She married Johnie William Frazier, who preceded her in death Nov. 8, 1972. She also was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Belva Hancock and her husband, Donald, of Archdale; a son, Wayne Frazier and his wife, Ann, of Knoxville, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Stephen Hancock and his wife, Lisa, of High Point, Kent Hancock and his wife, Carla, of Collinsville, Va., Brandon Frazier of Memphis, Tenn., and Lewis Osborne and his wife, Lisa, of Knoxville; four great-grandchildren, Drew Hancock, Austin Hancock, Meghan Hancock and Madison Hancock; and three sisters, Myrtle Marsh of Trinity, Grace Oglesby of High Point and Virginia Krieger of Willoughby, Ohio.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Prospect United Methodist Church by the Rev. Karl Kelly. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.
Memorials may be directed to Prospect United Methodist Church, 616 Duke St., Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

Eskar Gough
Lexington - Eskar Asbury Gough, 48, died at 10:40 a.m., May 8, 2000, in Community General Hospital.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. There will be no visitation.

Edward Grimmett
Denton - Earl Grimmett, 39, died May 8, 2000.
A memorial service will be at a later date in West Virginia.
Briggs Funeral Home, Denton, is in charge of arrangements.

Allie Hancock
Thomasville - Mrs. Allie Lee Hunt Hancock, 94, died May 9, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be 10-1 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Beulah Hunt
Archdale - Mrs. Beulah Mae Briles Hunt, 79, of GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center, formerly of 108 Linda Drive, Archdale, died May 9, 2000, at the center.
She was born Oct. 10, 1920, in Moore County, a daughter of William and Mattie Graham Briles. She was employed with Burlington Industries and later employed with Hazel Williams Florist. She was a member of Gospel Baptist Church and Willing Workers Sunday School Class. On Oct. 14, 1939, she married Thomas Ray Hunt, who preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1997. She also was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruth Sparks, Rachel Smith and Lucy Yarberry.
Surviving are a son, Thomas D. Hunt and his wife, Genevieve, of Trinity; a sister, Mrs. Bertha Hedrick of Trinity; a brother, William M. 'Bill' Briles of Jamestown; a granddaughter Mrs. Loretta Honeycutt and her husband, Kent, of Trinity; and two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Dawn.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Sechrest Archdale Chapel by the Rev. Frank Gribble. Burial will be in Mt. Gilead United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Lester Kinley
Archdale - Lester William Kinley, 79, died May 8, 2000 at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 8, 1920, in Randolph County, a son of Cicero and Glendora Barrier Kinley. He was a lifelong resident of Randolph County. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II and retired from Union Camp Inc. in Jamestown. He was an active member of Fairfield United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the choir and had served as custodian for several years. He was a mason and a member of the Numa Reid Lodge #344 in High Point. On June 21, 1944, he married Roxie Wall, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by a son, William Eugene Kinley Jan. 15, 1995.
Also surviving are two daughters, Betty K. Shackelford of Asheboro and Sharon K. Jones of Archdale; a son, Roy Wayne Kinley of Archdale; five grandchildren, Brian Shackelford, Shanon Shackelford, Ronald Kinley, Michelle Mathai and Logan Jones; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fairfield United Methodist Church by the Rev. Neal Brower and the Rev. Eugene Dean. Masonic graveside rites will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.
Memorials may be directed to Fairfield United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1505 NC 62, High Point, N.C. 27263.

Nora McKiver
High Point - To everything there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die.
On May 6, 2000, the summons to enter into the joys of the Lord came to Nora Bee Matthews McKiver, 73, as she departed this earthly life for eternal rest.
She was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Newberry, S.C., a daughter of Kelly and Lois Ray Matthews Sr., who preceded her in death. Early in her life, she accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She was a devoted member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where she worked faithfully on the Senior Choir, Missionary Circle and Prayer Warriors Group until her health began to decline. In 1944, she married Lonzell McKiver Sr. and to this union 15 children were born.
Left to cherish her memories are her husband of the residence; seven daughters, Darlene 'Annette' Ratchford, Nora 'Betsy' Davis and her husband, Willie, Patricia Cotton and her husband, Gerald F., Evangelist Louise Welch and her husband, the Rev. Ulysses Jr., Mary McManus and her husband, Willie, and Ada Leggett, all of High Point, Betty Singletary and her husband, Arthur, of Thomasville; eight sons, Lonzell 'Bobby' McKiver Jr. and his wife, Carla, of Milwaukee, Wis., Samuel Lee McKiver and his wife, Geraldine, of Greensboro, James McKiver, Michael McKiver, Benjamin McKiver, Kelly 'Glenn' McKiver, John 'J.T.' McKiver and Abraham McKiver and his wife, Evangelist Vickie, all of High Point; 45 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth 'Avis' Stubbs of Philadelphia; five brothers, the Rev. Johnus Matthews and his wife, Mary, Robert Lee Matthews and Kelly Matthews, all of Pinewood, S.C., James 'Jimmy' Matthews of Philadelphia, and Nathaniel Matthews of High Point; an adopted daughter, Netter Little of High Point; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many, many, dear and devoted friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at New Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. John Mason. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the church prior to the service.
Hargett-Gilmore Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

William Oliver
High Point - God in his infinite mercy ended the pain and suffering of our loved one, William Edward Oliver, 89, May 7,2000.
He was born Aug. 22, 1910, a son of Will and Josephine Denny Oliver, who preceded him in death. He was educated in the Pittsylvania County school system. He was a member of First Baptist Church, where he served on the deacon board until his health prevented him from attending. He was a retired maintenance man with L. Richardson Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. He could not stay retired, he became a dedicated employee with Five Points Car Wash.
He had a very quiet, humble spirit and was a loving person in his neighborhood. Whenever a lawn needed mowing or a lawnmower needed fixing you could depend on him. If you needed a ride anywhere, you could depend on him. Inclusive of his many talents, he showed much interest in gardening and shared with those he loved.
On Aug. 22, 1935, he married Dorothy Gunter, who preceded him in death. To this union was born one daughter, Barbara Jean. Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Hugh B. Oliver, Ellwood Oliver, Julian Oliver amd Robert Oliver; and three sisters, Verda Ferguson, Edith Ferguson and Frances Moorefield.
Also surviving are those he leaves to cherish his memories are his daughter; a son-in-law, David Robertson; two grandchildren, David (Tonya) Robertson Jr., of Bowling Green, Ky., and Mrs. Valeria (Anthony) R. Thomas of Thomasville; three great-grandchildren, Christian Thomas and Chelsea Thomas, both of Thomasville and Kirsten Taylor of Bowling Green; two sisters, Mrs. Louise (C.B.) Anderson of Petersburg, Va. and Mrs. Beatrice Withers of Pelham; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. F.L. Andrews. Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Danville, Va. Visitation will be at 1606 Oneka St.
Hargett-Gilmore Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements.
