Carl Benfield
Lexington - Carl Fletcher Benfield, 80, of Fairview Drive died June 26, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
He was born Aug. 23, 1919, in Iredell County, a son of Garland and Jane Turner Benfield. He was a businessman and a civic leader of Lexington. He was founder of Piedmont Electric Repair Co. (PERCO) in 1947, Davidson Electric Wholesale Supply Inc. in 1957, and Davidson Wholesale Plumbing Supply Inc. in 1969. He retired in 1994. He served as a board member of the American Children's Home for 40 years. He was past president of the Central Carolina Civitans, a former member of the Lexington Area YMCA board of directors and a former board of directors member of the Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce.
He was a charter member of Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, where he served as Sunday school superintendent, a Sunday school teacher, an elder and treasurer of the church.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 3074, American Legion Post 8 and Masonic Lodge 696. He was a life member of the Salvation Army board of directors, was one of the original incorporators of the High Rock Lake Association and building and grounds chairman of the YMCA.
Surviving are his wife, Lorene Martin Benfield of the residence; a son, Rick W. Benfield of Lexington; two daughters, Beckey Griffith and her husband, Jeff, of Lexington and Sandy Riddle and her husband, Earl, of Salisbury; four grandchildren, Andy Benfield and his wife, Kelli, of Welcome, Cherlene Benfield Stout and her husband, Matt, of Midway, Chad Griffith of Lexington and Clint Riddle of Salisbury; a great-grandchild, Ethan Stout of Midway; and two sisters, Clara Bartz of Charlotte and Letha Flynn of Statesville.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Robert Barbazette. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Memorials may be directed to American Children's Home, P.O. Box 1288, Lexington, N.C. 27293 or the American Heart Association, 202 CentrePort Drive, Suite 100, Greensboro, N.C. 27409 or to the organization or charity of the donor's choice.

Myron Buser
High Point - Myron Walter Buser, 53, died very quietly and peacefully June 26, 2000, the Almighty God in his infinite wisdom gently closed his eyes and took him to his home in glory.
He was born Oct. 19, 1946, in High Point, a son of Clyde and Virginia Buser Moorefield and later was adopted by his grandparents, Myron Walter and Mary Buser. He was a lifelong resident of High Point. He graduated from High Point Central High School and retired from Guilford County Schools. Prior to this, he was with the High Point City Schools and Steele and Vaughn Magnavox. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in Vietnam. He was an amateur radio operator, was associated with the Guilford Grays and was an expert marksman. He was of the Reformed faith. He was a loving husband and father.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Jones Buser of the residence; a daughter, Lisa Dianne Buser of Dallas, N.C.; an aunt, Mrs. Ralph (Nana) Allen of Columbus, Ohio; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Ethel Jones of Thomasville.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Emanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, Thomasville, by the Rev. Warren Cassady. Visitation will be immediately after the service. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point.
Memorials may be directed to Emanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, 1170 Emanuel Church Road, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

William Frye
Trinity - William Austin 'Bud' Frye, 80, of 5261 Frye St. died June 27, 2000, at his residence.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

Charles Kidd
High Point - Charles Emmitt Kidd, 77, of 422 Burge Place died June 27, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born July 28, 1922, in Guilford County, a son of James Emmitt and Maudie Jane Southern Kidd. He was a lifelong resident of High Point. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II and was a retired employee of Universal Showrooms. He was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ. On Nov. 28, 1947, he married the former Grace Hutchens, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter, Pat Darr and her husband, Andy, of Thomasville; two grandchildren, Melissa Darr and Andrew Darr; a brother, Donald E. Kidd of High Point; and a sister, Louise Scarce of Asheboro.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Donald Stevenson. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to First Reformed United Church of Christ, 901 English Road, High Point, N.C. 27262.

Grace Lanning
Lexington - Mrs. Grace Harvey Poplin Lanning, 85, of Southbound Street died June 26, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Gene Luce
High Point - Gene Clayton Luce, 75, of 1012 Havenridge Drive died June 27, 2000.
Masonic rites will be performed 2 p.m. Thursday at Sechrest Funeral Chapel, High Point, by Numa F. Reid Lodge 344 A.F.&A.M.

Jack Luck
Asheboro - Joseph Jackson 'Jack' Luck, 73, died June 25, 2000.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Ridge Funeral Home.

W. McPherson III
Thomasville - William Ray 'Bill' McPherson III, 45, of 12 Hickory Trail died June 26, 2000, at his residence.
He was born April 4, 1955, in High Point, a son of William Ray McPherson Jr. and Nell Tew McPherson. He was a lifelong resident of Davidson County. He attended East Davidson High School and was employed with The Boat House.
Surviving are his mother of the residence; his father of Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Danny (Connie) Dennis of Thomasville; two nephews; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Memorial service will be 7 p.m. Thursday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Wilbur Jarrett. Visitation will be after the service and other times at his sister's residence, 459 Blackberry Road.
Memorials may be directed to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2211 W. Meadowview Road, Suite 30, Greensboro, N.C. 27407.

Larry Stanley
Lexington - Larry Allen Stanley, 52, of Fairway Drive died at 4:05 a.m. June 27, 2000, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro after five months of illness.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Coggins Memorial Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home.

Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Jones Buser of the residence; a daughter, Lisa Dianne Buser of Dallas, N.C.; an aunt, Mrs. Ralph (Nana) Allen of Columbus, Ohio; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norman and Ethel Jones of Thomasville.

Thelma Cothren
Trinity - Mrs. Thelma Bailey Cothren, 88, of GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center died June 27, 2000, at the nursing facility.
She was born March 5, 1912, in Yancey County, a daughter of Fred and Julia McOury Bailey. She was a resident of High Point since 1959, having moved from Ridgecrest. She was a homemaker and a member of Conrad Memorial Baptist Church. She married Arthur Harry Belcher, who preceded her in death in 1960. She later married Howard William Cothren, who also preceded her in death in 1996.
Surviving are three daughters, Joyce Strachia of Indian Harbor Beach, Fla., Deanna Belcher of High Point and Nancy Belcher of Buckner; two sons, Charles Belcher of Asheville and Bill Belcher of Lawton, Okla.; three sisters, Gladys Tilson of Greensville, S.C., Lucy Courtney of Asheville and Betty Fox of Burnsville; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Marcus Campbell. Entombment will be in Guilford Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28215.

High Point - Mrs. Frances Barnes Covington, 77, of 112-C Price St. died June 27, 2000.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Haizlip Funeral Home.
