Mrs. Pattie Thomas Betts, 83, of 1106 Forest Hill Drive died Aug. 30, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was a daughter of Frederick Arthur and Florence Moffett Thomas. On March 9, 1940, she married Henry Alexander Betts, who preceded her in death May 3, 1998. She attended Hollins College and Marjorie Webster College. She was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was past president of the Junior League of High Point, a member of the Green Thumb Garden Club and the High Point Literary League.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Florence Betts Brumfield and her husband, Randy, of the residence; a grandson, Garrett Alexander Betts Brumfield; two nieces, Craig Amele Thomas of High Point and Patt Allison of LaJolla, Calif.; four nephews, Fred A. Thomas III of High Point, Sidney Lake Paine of Greenville, S.C., Christopher Borden Paine of San Diego, Calif., and Jack Betts of Raleigh.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. today in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. Jill Auman. Visitation will be at the residence.

Mrs. Mary Call Charles, of Britthaven of Davidson Nursing Center, E. Sunrise Avenue, died Aug. 31, 2000, at the center.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight.

Etta Cooper
Denton
Mrs. Etta Grace Moffitt Cooper, 88, died Aug. 30, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. at Briggs Funeral Home Memorial Chapel.

Donna Gregory
Welcome
Ms. Donna Virginia Leonard Gregory, 50, left her earthly abode and received the gift of eternal life from her Heavenly Father Aug. 31, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
She was born Dec. 25, 1949, in Forsyth County, a daughter of Fred Ovel and Ila Knouse Leonard. She graduated from North Davidson High School in 1968. She was a member of Center United Methodist Church in Welcome. She worked for the Bahson Co. for 15 years. She resided at SunBridge Nursing Facility since 1992. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Fred Leonard.
Surviving are her mother and father; a daughter, Michelle Gregory of Welcome; two aunts, Violet Knouse of Arcadia and Frances Leonard of Welcome; and her uncle, Dale Leonard of Welcome.
Funeral will be 7 p.m. Friday at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel, Winston-Salem, by the Rev. Larry Jent and the Rev. David Baity. Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be after the service Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Center United Methodist Church Video Taping Fund, P.O. Box 179, Welcome, N.C. 27374.

Donald Haley

Donald 'Don' Louis Haley, 52, of Hillside Drive died Aug. 29, 2000, at his residence after a sudden illness.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home.

Sallie Kennedy
Robbins
Mrs. Sallie Brewer Kennedy, 96, of 1600 Brown's Mill Road died Aug. 30, 2000, at Manor Care Nursing Center, Pinehurst.
She was born Oct. 24, 1903, in Moore County, a daughter of Eunice and Issac Brewer. She was a homemaker, a member of Brown's Chapel Christian Church, the Womens Auxiliary, the Young at Heart Sunday School Class and was an avid gardener. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred E. Kennedy; four sons, Fred Jr., Elgin, Lester and Carl Kennedy; a daughter, Hazel J. Kennedy; and a sister, Etta Kellam.
Surviving are a son, Phillip I. Kennedy of Robbins; three daughters, Faye Hackney-Lance of Charlotte, Hannah M. Miller of Winston-Salem and Mary E. Lifford of Knoxville, Tenn.; four sisters, Della Myrick of Star, Onnie Hinson Britt of Biscoe, Frances Michael and Grace Emerson, both of High Point; a brother, Curtis Brewer of Robbins; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and 18 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Brown's Chapel Christian Church by the Rev. Brady Stephens, the Rev. Jimmie Caviness and the Rev. Gary Waisner. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery, High Point, by the Rev. Mark Hackney and the Rev. Otis Hurst. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Kennedy Funeral Home, Robbins, and other times at the residence.

Charles B. 'Chip' McClain, 82, of Swearing Creek Drive died Aug. 30, 2000, at Vencor Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be at the residence.

Mary Melton
Thomasville
Mrs. Mary Ellen Melton, 83, of 1004 Liberty Drive died Aug. 31, 2000 at Community General Hospital.
She was born April 25, 1917, in Anson County, Wadesboro, a daughter of William C. and Rosa Sturdivant Melton. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness of Thomasville. She was a sibling of 17 (10 sisters and 7 brothers) and a proud mother of 12 children. She was preceded in death by a son William Melton and a daughter, Alice Melton.
Surviving are 10 children, Rudolph (Doc) Melton, Lorene Alston and Claude (CB) Melton, all of Greensboro, Betty Kersey (John), Peggy McCormick (Alfred) and Brenda Johnson, all of High Point, Bernice Melton-Craft (Alvin) and Mattie Melton, both of Thomasville, Clara (Sally) Payden (Willie) of Charlotte and Gwendolyn Carter (Terry) of Kernersville; six brothers and sisters, Alice Phillips (Cleveland) and Betty Wall, both of Wadesboro, Ada Wall of Candor, Franklin Melton of New Jersey, Thompson Melton of Charlotte, Raymond (LD) Melton of Norwood; 36 grandchildren; and 52 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.
Funeral will be 1:30 Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, Thomasville by Ronnie Kithen. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be 1-1:30 Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness, Thomasville, and other times at the residence of Mary Melton, 1004-J Liberty Drive, Thomasville.

W. Oglesby Jr.
Cowpens, S.C.
Wyatt Melton Oglesby Jr., 70, of 132 Water Mill Road died Aug. 29, 2000, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Cowpens, a son of Wyatt Sr. and Martha Wood Oglesby. He was married to Dorothy Smith Oglesby, who survives. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a self-employed maintenance contractor. He was a member of Limestone Missionary Baptist Church, where he served as trustee, a member of the Gospel Choir, former church treasurer, and former church custodian.
He was a lover of gospel music. He was a soloist in the church choir and his home was often filled with family and friends singing praises to God in an impromptu gospel fest. He was preceded in death by a son, Wyatt M. Oglesby III.
Also surviving are three daughters, Vanessa Ann Weeks, Wanda Oglesby and Wendy McShaw, both of Cowpens; seven brothers, James Robert Oglesby, Kenneth Oglesby, Ulysses Oglesby, all of High Point, N.C., John Oglesby, the Rev. Benjamin Oglesby and Terry Oglesby, all of Cowpens, and Michael Oglesby of Gaffney; a sister, Kathy Fitzpatrick of Laurel, Md.; two grandchildren, Crystal and Timothy Weeks; and a great-grandchild, Taylor Weeks.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Saturday at Limestone Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Arthur J. Smith. Burial will be in Gaffney Memorial Park. The body will be at the Gilmore Mortuary until placed in the church one hour prior to the service.
Honorary bearers will be the Ladies of Ebonau. Active bearers will be his nieces and nephews.

Annie Parker

Mrs. Annie Sue Jackson Parker, 93, died Aug. 31, 2000.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in First Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton.

Leta Peacock
High Point
Mrs. Leta Skeen Peacock, 93, of 615 Oakview Road died Aug. 31, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born in Denton, Oct. 11, 1906, a daughter of James and Corrina Harris Skeen. She was educated in a one room schoolhouse in Davidson County. She was of the Primitive Baptist faith and a member of High Point Primitive Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Perman Peacock, July 7, 1964.
Surviving are three children, Mrs. Doris Lee Peacock Gunn of McDonough, Ga., Mrs. Betty Peacock Strickland of Greensboro and James P. Peacock Jr. of Kernersville; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Sechrest Chapel, High Point, by the Rev. James A. Summey. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Nellie Stuckey
High Point
Mrs. Nellie Mae Stuckey of 1201-B E. Commerce Ave. died Aug. 30, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Jan. 15, 1947, in Marlboro County, S.C., a daughter of Nelson and Pearline Martin Williams. She married Robert Louise Stuckey, who preceded her in death March 9, 1990. She was employed at Howard Johnson Hotel prior to ill health. She also was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.
Surviving are two daughters, Janice (CW) Williams Salley and Mary Williams; a sister, Stancie Mae Fuller; three brothers, Houston, Ben and Levi Williams, all of High Point; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethel Baptist Church, Wallace, S.C. Visitation will be 7-8 Friday at the residence.
Hoover Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Annie Williams
High Point
Mrs. Annie Williams, 82, of 1003 Blain St., formerly of 112-A Hoskins St., died Aug. 27, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Jan. 15, 1918, in Robbins, Moore County, a daughter of Aaron and Annie Person Simmons. She was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church and a lifelong member of Bellview Methodist Church in her home town of Robbins. She was a member of Eastern Star Gardenia #21 and Ladies Auxiliary VFW. She retired from Kay Springs Manufacturing Co.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at New Bethel Baptist Church, 1116 Montlieu Ave. by the Rev. John Mason. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. today at the church and other times at the residence of her granddaughter, Lula S. Gregory, 1003 Blain St.
Hargett-Gilmore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Claude Eugene Bost, 87, of Brian Center Nursing Home, formerly of Seventh St., died at 4:50 p.m. Aug. 28 at the nursing facility.

Robert Gerald McLelland, 71, died Sept. 1, 2000.
