Mrs. Kathleen 'Kathy' Meredith Coffey, 76, of 1610 Ternberry Road died Sept. 27, 2000, at her residence.
She was born March 3, 1924, in High Point, a daughter of Lee and Mattie Cheek Meredith. She was a graduate of High Point Central High School and Bryce Business College. She lived in Georgia for about 40 years where she was employed as a sales representative with several cosmetic companies. She returned to High Point five years ago from Lake Arrowhead in Canton, Ga. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was first married to Thomas McCarter who preceded her in death in 1971. She later married C.J. Coffey who also preceded her in death in 1994. She also was preceded in death by a son, Rodney McCarter.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Helen Simmons and her husband, William E. Simmons Jr., of 1242 Kensington Road; a nephew, William E. 'Bill' Simmons III and his wife, Liz, of 1304 Ashley Ave; her niece, Cynthia Simmons; several cousins, Margaret Elkes and her husband, Bobby, Harrell Check and his wife, Donna, and Lewis Cheek and his wife, Debbie; and a special friend, Sybil Toole.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Glenn Myers and the Rev. Lloyd Hunsucker. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Friday at Sechrest Funeral Service, 1301 E. Lexington Ave, High Point.
Memorials may be directed to Christ United Methodist Church Capital Campaign Fund, 1301 N. College Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262 or to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.
The family wishes to express its gratitude to the special nurses, Donna Cheek, Goldie May and Lois Gwyn and all the Hospice nurses who took care of her.

Annis Catherine Kennedy Fishel, 79, of Mt. Moriah Drive died at 3:43 a.m. Sept. 26, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday in Marcus United Methodist Church Cemetery, Jackson Springs. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral home and 6:30-8:30 Saturday at Briggs-Candor Funeral Home, Candor.

Sylvia Goins

Sylvia Ingram Goins, 92, of Sunbridge Nursing Home, formerly of Virginia Drive, died at 11:45 p.m. Sept. 29, 2000, at the nursing home.
Funeral will be 9 a.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Leroy Henderson
Thomasville
Leroy Henderson, 80, died Sept. 25, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare of Thomasville after months of declining health.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at S.E. Thomas Funeral Service. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Jewel Miller
Asheboro
Mrs. Jewel Loflin Miller, 73, of 117 Idlewild Drive died Sept. 27, 2000, at her residence.
She was a native of Randolph County and a 1944 graduate of Trinity High School. She was a clerk with the Randolph and Guilford County Departments of Social Services, retiring after 23 years of service. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Miller.
Surviving are two daughters, Wanda Stone of Archdale and Annette Jordan of Asheboro; a son Kenneth R. Miller of Asheboro; two grandsons, Stephen Stone and Brian Stone, both of Archdale; a granddaughter, Krista Pelata of Archdale; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Worth Loflin of Trinity and Dolan Loflin of Thomasville; and a sister, Mabel Myers of Trinity.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Friendship Baptist Church by the Rev. Tommy Kidd, the Rev. David Reid and Reid Crotts. Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.

Mrs. Sybil Best, 79, died Sept. 27, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Summerville Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Briggs Funeral Home, Denton.

Paul Black
Trinity
Paul 'Paul J.' Jones Black, 86, of 4273 Hopewell Church Road, formerly of Cloniger Drive, Thomasville, died Sept. 27, 2000, at his residence.
He was born June 18, 1914, in Davidson County, a son of Ceba 'Dock' and Jennie Yow Black. He was a graduate of Fair Grove High School. He was a retired supervisor with Thomasville Furniture Industries, Plant T. He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, the Adult Bible Class and was a former member of the United Methodist Men. On Nov. 18, 1939, he married Mary Kennedy, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Brenda Hedrick and her husband, Roger, and Mrs. Joyce Hill and her husband, Eddie, both of Trinity; four grandchildren, Dale Hedrick and his wife, Norma, of Archdale, Paul Scott Hedrick and his wife, Kelly of Trinity, Mike Hill and his wife, Amy, of Archdale and Paula Sikes and her husband, Robbie, of Trinity; and four great-grandchildren, Nick Hill, Alex Hill, Lindsay Hedrick and Adam Shew.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Hopewell United Methodist Church by the Rev. Amy Coles. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville, until the hour of service. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Memorials may be directed to the Building Fund of Hopewell United Methodist Church, 4212 Hopewell Church Road, Trinity, N.C. 27370 or to Hospice of Randolph, 416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, N.C. 27203.

Rowland Edward Blake, 79, of Golden Age Nursing Home, formerly of Moore Drive, died at 5:25 a.m. Sept. 28, 2000, after a serious illness of one month.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Derl Faulkner Sr.

Derl Hampton Faulkner Sr., 69, of 1007 MacArthur Road died at 6:35 a.m. Sept. 28, 2000, at his residence.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Lacy Fowler
Archdale
Lacy Layton Fowler, 75, formerly of 125 W. White Drive died Sept. 28, 2000, at Westwood Health & Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Sept. 3, 1925, in Horry County, S.C., a son of J.D. and Maggie Hodge Fowler. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during Word War II and was a recipient of numerous awards. He retired as a truck drive. He was a member of Leviner Memorial Church Of The Living God. On Dec. 9, 1950, he married the former Esta Hattaway who preceded him in death on June 30, 1998.
Surviving are a son, Lacy 'Pete' Fowler and his wife, Bobbie, of 108 E. White Drive, Archdale; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Evelyn Diane) Treece of 4130 Pheasant Ridge, Sophia, and Mrs. John (Kathy) Hill of 5612 Clayton St., High Point; a brother, Clayton Fowler of Green Sea, S.C.; two sisters, Miss Thelma Fowler and Mrs. Lula Soles, both of Green Sea, S.C.; four grandchildren, Mrs. Ron (Nicki) Kirkman of Sophia, Mrs. Darren (Samantha) East, Ms. Maggie Wood and Johnny Hill, all of High Point; and a great-grandchild, Brittney East of High Point.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Robert Hilburn, the Rev. Raleigh Hayden and the Rev. Gene Jenkins. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Kathy Hill.

Mrs. Modene Church Davis Gilbert, 73, of 798 Jacob St. died Sept. 28, 2000, at her residence.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Ann Hammer
High Point
Mrs. Ann Shingleton Hammer, 56, of 2210 Meadowlark Road died Sept. 27, 2000, at Maryfield Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 15, 1944, in Wilson, a daughter of W.W. and Julia Cook Shingleton. She was a graduate of Meredith College and High Point University. She taught English as a second language at Ferndale Middle School and Central High School from 1994 to 1999. She devoted her life to teaching and advocated for educational opportunities for mentally retarded citizens. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. She studied horticulture and loved outdoor activities with her family. She was an avid traveler and especially enjoyed reunions at the beach. She will be missed dearly by her friends and family.
Surviving are her husband, Toby Hammer of the residence; a daughter, Larissa Ivantich and her husband, Mike, of Wake Forest; two sons, Evan Hammer of Carrboro and Brent Hammer, both of High Point; a grandson, Benjamin Ivantich of Wake Forest; a sister, Louise Shingleton Shivers of Augusta, Ga.; and six brothers, Dr. William Shingleton of Durham, Edward Shingleton of Fort White, Fla., Aubrey Shingleton of Wilson, Dr. Hugh Shingleton of Atlanta, Ga., Roddy Shingleton of Richmond, Va., and Foy Shingleton of Orlando, Fla.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Don Lloyd and the Rev. Mark Curtis. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.

Mrs. Annie Thelma Leonard Link, 90, of 201 Cow Palace Road, formerly of Tyro, died Sept. 27, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Reeds United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Piedmont Funeral Home.

Shirley Minnich

Mrs. Shirley Joan Minnich, 65, died Sept. 27, 2000, at her residence.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Minnich, and her mother, Margaret Holbrook.
Surviving are her father, Harry Holbrook; six children, Donna Jean Heath of West Plains, Miss., Edward Victor Minnich of Grayslake, Ill., Annette Marie Milletary of Mechanicsville, Va., Cheryl Ann Norville of Vanceboro, Richard Reynolds Minnich of Liberty and Robert Stephen Minnich of High Point; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Abiding by her wishes no funeral services will be held.

Mrs. Essie Hines Williams, 99, of Mountain Vista Nursing Home, Denton, formerly of High Point, died at 6 a.m. Sept. 28, 2000, at the nursing home.
Funeral will be noon Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Howard 'Bill' Augustus Wooten, 65, departed from his earthly life early Sept. 26, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center, to dwell with his heavenly Father.
He was born in Wilkes County, a son of Lorien 'L.M.' and Renie Irena Porter Wooten, who both preceded him in death. He was of the Baptist faith and a U.S. Army veteran. He also was preceded in death by a son, William Wooten; a grandson, Jon Curtis Edwards; four brothers, Carl, Roy, John 'Pete' and Lewis 'Pat'; and a sister, Christine W. Collins.
Surviving are his devoted wife of 43 years, Edith Jeanette Carlton Wooten of the residence; a son Lorien M. Wooten of Winston-Salem; four daughters, Mrs. Reda (Paul) W. Tysinger of Archdale, Ms. Renie W. Lane of Lexington, Mrs. Loretta (Wendell) W. Edwards of Walnut Cove and Ms. Evelyn Wooten of High Point; three grandsons; three granddaughters; two great-grandsons; two great-granddaughters; and a brother, Robert 'Bob' Wooten of Salisbury; also surviving are those he helped to raise, two of his wife's brothers, John (Joy) Carlton, Joe (Francis) Carlton; and two of her sisters, Ruth (Arnold) Foster and Irene (Tom) Watson.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Woodland Cemetery by the Rev. Joe Long. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel and other times at the residence of Reda Tysinger, 606 Frontier St., Archdale, 431-7656.
