Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Family Funeral Care Chapel. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Geneva Haney
Gaffney
Mrs. Geneva Haney, 68, of 610 Littlejohn St., died at 2:15 a.m. Sept. 29, 2000 at Brookview Healthcare Center.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church.
Foster Funeral Home of Gaffney is in charge of arrangements.

Esta Haworth
Greensboro
Mrs. Esta Bedford Haworth, 95, of Friends Homes died Oct. 2, 2000, after several months of declining health.
She was born March 7, 1905, in Houghton, N.Y., a daughter of Henry Clark and Nell Crow Bedford. She received her undergraduate degree at Earlham College, Richmond, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, the Rev. Cecil E. Haworth, a sister, Mrs. Clare Trueblood and a brother, Henry Ward Bedford. She was a partner with her husband in their 60 years of ministry, serving High Point Friends Meeting 34 years and Jamestown Friends Meeting 15 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Beverly) Kemp of Greensboro and Mrs. Marjorie Blair of High Point; a son, Howard H. Haworth and his wife, Patricia, of Charlotte; a sister, Bernice Bedford Conley of Sun City, Ariz.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at High Point Friends Meeting, 800 Quaker Lane, by the Rev. David Kingrey and the Rev. Victor Murchison. Inurnment will be private.
Memorials may be directed to High Point Friends Meeting, P.O. Box 5166, High Point, N.C. 27261.
Harold C. Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Martin Jr.
Archdale
Charles Martin Jr., 73, formerly of 3576 Sharon Dale Drive died at 11 p.m. Oct. 2, 2000, at High Point Care Center after declining health of several months.
He was born May 20, 1927, in Giles County, Va., a son of Charles and Laura Martin Sr. He was a resident of Archdale and High Point for the past 26 years and retired from the city of High Point. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II and was a recipient of the Victory Medal. On May 20, 1927, he married Peggy Greene who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Martha) Robinson and Mrs. Faron (Sandra) Passmore, both of Thomasville; three stepsons, Wesley Greene and his wife, Sandra, Tony Greene and his wife, Angie, all of Thomasville, and Richard Green of the residence; three sisters, Mrs. Annie Hyatt, Mrs. Magdalene Sutphin and Mrs. Myrtle Regney, all of Pulaski, Va.; two half brothers; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Home, Archdale. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Annie Matthews
Jamestown
Mrs. Annie Ida Dunlap Matthews, 98, formerly of 5206 Harvey Road died at 5:35 a.m. Oct. 3, 2000, at Piedmont Christian Home.
She was born Aug. 30, 1902, in Moore County, a daughter of Clegg H. and Martha Jane Brewer Dunlap. She was a resident of Jamestown and High Point vicinity the majority of her life and was a former seamstress. On Dec. 16, 1922, she married Lindsay H. Matthews, who preceded her in death in 1974.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Kathleen) Cheezem of Johnson City, Tenn.; two sons, James H. Matthews and his wife, Christine, of High Point and Kenneth Matthews and his wife, Shirley, of Jamestown; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Mitchell's Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Coppedge-Henley. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Lindsay Matthews, Dale Myers, Sam Kersey, Curt Lambert, Gerald Robertson and Paul Wilson.
Memorials may be directed to Mitchell's Grove United Methodist Church, 3511 E. Kivett Drive, High Point, N.C. 27260.

Beatrice Moon
High Point
Mrs. Beatrice Sebastian Moon, 91, died Oct. 1, 2000, at Covenant Towers in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
She was born Jan. 4, 1909, in Hays, a daughter of Charles Alexander and Etta Holbrook Sebastian. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener and an accomplished equestrian. She was married to J. William Moon, who preceded her in death in 1970.
Surviving are three sisters, Mrs. C. Virgil (Hazel) Yow of N. Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mrs. Raymond M. (Bettye) Wise of Conway, S.C., and Mrs. William D. (Ronda) Locke of Chapel Hill; two brothers, Verne D. Sebastian of Greensboro and Charles B. Sebastian of Chapel Hill; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. William A. Slater. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Thursday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home.

Jesse Saunders
Thomasville
Jesse E. Saunders, 78, died Oct. 1, 2000, at the Masonic & Eastern Star Home in Greensboro.
He was born April 24, 1922, in Cherokee County, a son of John W. and Eva Lassiter Saunders. He was a High Point area resident the majority of his life. He was a member of Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church, the Adult Sunday School Class and also served as a deacon. He was a Mason and a member of the Piedmont Masonic Lodge 681 A.F.&A.M. He was a World War II veteran and was employed with the city of High Point for more than 30 years prior to his retirement in 1986. In 1950, he married the former Irene Miller, who preceded him in death in 1995.
Surviving are a son, John C. Saunders and his wife, Cathy C. Saunders, of Thomasville; a daughter, Leigh Ann Saunders of Saunderstown, R.I.; two granddaughters, Sarah E. Saunders and Mary Catherine Saunders, both of Thomasville; three sisters, Diane Saunders of High Point; Lorraine Moore of Greensboro and June Rabalais of Cottonport, La.; and two brothers, Wayne Saunders of Sophia and Randall Saunders of High Point.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Billy Carey. Burial will be with full military and Masonic rites in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.
Memorials may be directed to the Masonic & Eastern Star Home, 700 S. Holden Road, Greensboro, N.C. 27407.

Garland Walton
High Point
Garland Lee Walton, 73, of 509 Irene St., formerly of Park Street, High Point, died Oct. 3, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 16, 1927, in Guilford County, a son of John Clark Walton and Sadie Poe Walton, who both preceded him in death. He was a U.S. Army veteran and was of the Baptist faith. He was married to Lillian Kennon Cecil, who preceded him in death Nov. 5, 1996.
Surviving are a daughter, Gail Mott of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Ms. Laura Walton of High Point; caretakers and friends, Jimmy and Peggy Gibson of Thomasville and Mrs. Frances Scott of Lexington.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Claude Garrett. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery in High Point. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Jimmy and Peggy Gibson, 509 Irene St.

Kathryn Willett
High Point
Mrs. Kathryn Willett, 86, of 1312 Timberlane Drive died Oct. 3, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 29, 1913, in High Point, a daughter of John Wesley Spoone and Susan Teachey Spoone. In 1935, she married James Robert Willett, who survives of the residence. She was a homemaker, a member of Highland United Methodist Church and the Ward Sunday School Class. She was a sitter with Eldercare.
Also surviving are a daughter, Barbara W. Shepard of the residence; a son, Charles D. Willett and his wife, Toni, of High Point; four grandchildren, Alan Shepard and his wife, Lisa, of Burlington, Michael Willett of High Point, Kay Shepard of Charlotte, and Amy Jordan and her husband, William, of High Point; four great-grandchildren, Zachary Shepard, Stephen Willett, Nathan Willett and Sarah Elizabeth Jordan.
Cryptside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Oakwood Memorial Park Mausoleum by the Rev. Jack Luther. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, and other times at the residence.

Bertha Beeson
Archdale
Mrs. Bertha Jane York Beeson, 77, of Tru-Care of Archdale, formerly of Astor Dowdy Towers, died Oct. 3, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Nov. 26, 1922, in Randolph County, a daughter of James Wade and Louvina Routh York who both preceded her in death. She was a resident of High Point and vicinity the majority of her life and retired from Concept Plastics. She was of the Baptist faith. On Nov. 26, 1936, she married Henry C. Beeson Sr., who preceded her in death Sept. 9, 1975. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy M. Goodwin; a sister, Margaret York Mattocks; and a brother, Herbert R. York.
Surviving are four sons, James H. Beeson and Henry C. Beeson Jr., both of High Point, Bobby R. Beeson of Jamestown and Roger D. Beeson of Trinity; three daughters, Betty E. Threadgill of Robbins, Shirley J. Jones of Archdale and Silvia A. Hall of High Point; a sister, Emma Gordon of High Point; 19 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Shirley J. Jones, 3755 Chadwick Drive.

Ella Bowman

Mrs. Ella Mae Adams Bowman, 80, of 318 Main St. died Oct. 1, 2000, after an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 21, 1920, in Alleghany County, a daughter of Romus Sanders and Lucy Poe Adams.
Surviving are two daughter, Mrs. Kathy Ball and her husband, Larry, of Granite Falls, and Mrs. Gail Wallin and her husband, Reggie of Lenoir; a son, Bobby Duncan and his wife, Lucille, of High Point; a brother, Will Adams of Galax, Va.; a sister, Annie W. Melton of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Emily LaFrance, Jeffrey Duncan, Osha Wallin and Jimmy Hutto.
Funeral was Oct. 4 at Vaughn Gwynn Chapel by the Rev. Kenneth Shew. Burial was in the City Cemetery of Galax, Va.

Miss Mitzi Dawn Brown, 39, of 1577 Loflin Hill Road died Oct. 3, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Grace Duncan

Mrs. Grace 'Gracie' Lillian Boyd Duncan, 90, of Lincoln Drive died Oct. 3, 2000, at the residence of her daughter.
She was born July 6, 1910, in Fries, Va., a daughter of William E. and Lucindia E. Boyd. She was a resident of High Point the majority of her life and was of the Baptist faith. She retired from Pickett Cotton Mill in 1975. On June 1, 1929, she was married to Oscar L. Duncan Sr., who preceded her in death Nov. 15, 1998. She also was preceded in death by two daughters, Doris Duncan Haymore and Pat Duncan Spurgeon.
Surviving are two daughters, Frances Duncan Hollifield of High Point and Lula Duncan Ivey of Thomasville; a son, Oscar L. Duncan Jr. of Archdale; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Sechrest Chapel, E. Lexington Avenue, High Point, by the Rev. Elwood Faircloth and the Rev. Keith Letterman. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Winston-Salem. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her daughter, 2618 Ernest St.

Ernest Charles Kersey, 80, of 1325 Kersey Valley Road died Oct. 4, 2000, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 18, 1920, in Guilford County, a son of Charles Arthur and Lula Jordan Kersey. He was a graduate of Jamestown High School and Bryce Commercial College. He retired from Red Bird, having served 23 years as a driver. He attended Mitchell's Grove United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Walter (Irene) Sparing of 1311 Kersey Valley Road, High Point; and two brothers, Frank Parker Kersey of 1325 Kersey Valley Road, High Point, and Alvin Kersey of Vickrey Chapel Road, Greensboro.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Sechrest Chapel, 1301 E. Lexington Ave., High Point, by the Rev. Jonathan Coppedge-Henley. The body will be at the funeral home until the hour of service. Burial will be in Mitchell's Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Mrs. Naomi Lee Shives Marsh, 62, of 320 Hazel Ave. died Oct. 4, 2000.

Douge Smith, 80, of 1303 Waverly St. died Oct. 1, 2000 at his residence.
He was born June 15, 1920, in Maxton, a son of Douge Smith Sr. and Penny Brown Smith, who both preceded him in death. He first married, Geneva Smith, who preceded him in death. He later married Eunice Ezekiel Smith, who survives. He retired from Monarch Furniture and was a member of Piney Grove Methodist Church in Maxton. He also was preceded in death by three children, five grand-children; three sisters, and six brothers.
Also surviving are seven sons, Douglas (Essie) Smith, William Smith, Levion Smith, Bobby (Carrie) Smith, all of High Point, James (Elizabeth) Smith of Washington, D.C., Edward (Debbie) Smith of Baltimore, Md., and Andy (Nellie) Smith of Bennettsville, S.C.; seven daughters, Mrs. Pearlie (Charlie) Hawkins, Mrs. Jennie (Ronald) Johnson, Mrs. Katie (Eve) Hope, Mrs. Betty (Frank) Leak, Mrs. Mary (Knox) Quick and Miss Dorothy Smith; three brothers, James Smith, Ed Smith and Alexander Smith, all of Dublin; a sister, Earlene Lewis of Dublin; 81 grandchildren; 97 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a niece, Maxine Ezekial who was like a daughter; and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater New Hope Baptist Church by Elder Ricky Wright. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Friday at Hargett-Gilmore Memorial Chapel and other times at the residence.
