Ms. Edna Earle Lamm Hinnant, 72, of Hempshire Court died Nov. 18, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born in Kenly, a daughter of Joseph and Fannie Grice Lamm. She was formerly employed at Oak Hill Elementary School as a teacherís aide.
Surviving are a daughter, Suzanne Hinnant of High Point; a son, Greg Hinnant of High Point; a brother, Joseph Lamm of Brownsville, Ind.; two sisters, Mary Elizabeth Van of Selma and Garnett Gleaves of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Samuel, Sarah, John and Joseph Hinnant, all of High Point.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Greg Hinnant. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Hazel Johnson
Archdale
Mrs. Hazel S. Johnson, 89, of Westwood Nursing Home died Nov. 22, 2000.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. Mel Anderson.
Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point, is in charge of arrangements.

Inez Lang
High Point
Mrs. Inez Warren Lang, 67, of 3921 Brandywine St. died at 5:50 p.m. Nov. 22, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, after declining health of four years.
She was born March 22, 1933, in Carroll County, Ga., a daughter of H.B. and Laura Maxwell Warren. She was a resident of North Carolina since 1968, and was employed with Devas Style Salon, which is owned by her son, Warren Lang, as a service coordinator. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was a member of Beta Sigma Pi National Sorority and served as a den mother with Cub Scouts. On Dec. 15, 1957, she was married to Norman F. Lang Sr., who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two sons, Norman F. Lang Jr. and his wife, Judith, of Apex and Warren L. Lang of Kernersville; a sister, Mrs. Bobbie W. Howard of LaGrange, Ga., and her grandchild, Christian Lang.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. at Deep River Friends Meeting by the Rev. Nick Block. Burial will be in Deep River Friends Meeting Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall of Deep River Friends Meeting.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont Inc., 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

Lillian Wallace
High Point
Mrs. Lillian Drayton Wallace, 66, of 1718 Lamb Ave. died Nov. 20, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
She was born in Fitzgerald, Ga., a daughter of John and Daisy Bryant, who both preceded her in death. She came to High Point in 1950. She retired in 1996 from Sarah Lee Corporation. She was a Jehovahís Witness and served at the Southwest Congregation in Archdale. She married Willie Howard Wallace Sr., who survives of the residence.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Jo-Ann (Darrell) Lindsay, Mrs. Phyllis (William) Moore and Mrs. Annette Sibert of High Point; five sons, Willie Howard Wallace Jr. of Harrisburg, Pa., Chris Howard (Robin) Wallace of Winston-Salem, Emmanuel Wallace of Greensboro, Perry (Bettie) Wallace and Michael Anthony Wallace of High Point; two brothers, Eddie Carmichael of Miami, Fla. and Fred (Mattie) Carmichael of Pacoima, Calif.; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a host of relative and friends.
Memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Kingdom Hall of Jehovahís Witnesses, 633 Liberty Road, Archdale. Entombment will be in Oakwood Cemetery, High Point.

Wallace Campbell

Wallace “Gator” Campbell, 33, of 3204 Flanders Court, died Nov. 25, 2000, resulting from injuries in an automobile accident.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Haizlip Funeral Home.

John Dohig
Colfax
John Dohig, 70, of 807 Quail Meadow Lane, died Nov. 25, 2000, at his residence.
He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Greensboro. A veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the 11th Airborne Division, he retired from Slane Hosiery Mills in High Point after 33 years of service.
He was preceded in death by one son, William Michael Dohig; parents Augustus and Adelaide Dohig; sister, Ellen, and brother, Bill. He is survived his wife of 38 years, Edith W. Dohig of the home; a son, David A. Dohig, and wife, Maria, of Greensboro; two sisters, June Slate of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Dorothy Lenartz of Vernal, Utah; and one grandson, David John Dohig.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kernersville. Burial will be in Mt. Gur Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. tonight at Hanes-Lineberry, Pierce Chapel in Kernersville. Memorials may be directed to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, 2205 W. Market St., Greensboro, NC 27403.

William Davis Locke, 80, died Nov. 26, 2000.

James Mainor
Thomasville
James Walter Mainor, 60, of 243 Noah’s Trail, died Nov. 24, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
He was born June 7, 1940, in Loudon, Tenn., a son of the late James Mainor and Marie Akins Mainor. He was a former employee with Carr Freight Inc. of Winston-Salem and was of the Baptist faith. On Feb. 28, 1959, he was married to Peggy Tysinger, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Theresa Mainor and Mrs. Anthony (Debbie) Nobles, both of Thomasville; four sisters, Mrs. Prudia Shaw and Mrs. Naomi Isbell, both of Loudon, Tenn., Mrs. Thelma McDaniel of Lenoir City, Tenn., and Mrs. Annie Ruth Crisco of Thomasville; a brother, Herbert Mainor of Archdale; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James Allen Mainor.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Gary Myers. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.

James Rickard
Thomasville
James Edward Rickard, of 212 Dave Shuler Drive, died Nov. 25, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville.

Mock Swicegood
Lexington
H. Mock Swicegood, 79, formerly of Iroquois Trail, died Nov. 26, 2000, at the Brookstone Retirement Center after three years of declining health.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Hill Memorial Park by the Rev. Tommy Robertson. Visitation will be 6-8:30 p.m. tonight at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington.

Rosetta Baldwin
High Point
Ms. Rosetta Baldwin, 98, died early Sabbath morning, Nov. 25, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 14, 1902, in Graham, a daughter of John and Mary Baldwin, who both preceded her in death. She moved to High Point at the age of 10. She began teaching in High Point in 1922 at Leonard Street School. In 1923, she started teaching in LaGrange and began a church school in High Point in 1942. She was very active in the community and church serving the Lord. She was a member of Burnshill Sympathy Club, the Deaconess Society and many other organizations. She also was preceded in death by her brother, Warren, and her sister, Fannie Mae.
Surviving are a host of cousins and adopted family members, Baldwins, Eubanks, Clarks, Fearingtons, Cottons and Ferringtons.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rosetta C. Baldwin Educational Center, 1202 Leonard Ave. Wake service will be 7-8 tonight at Baldwin Chapel Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1200 Leonard Ave. Visitation will follow the wake service at the church. The body will be at Hoover Funeral Home, E. Washington Drive, until the hour of service. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to everyone who has expressed their heart-felt appreciation and gratitude for having known our very special Rose.

C. Beck
Grosse Pointe Park
Charles Ernest Beck, 96, died Nov. 23, 2000, at St. Joseph Hospital in Ann Arbor.
He was born Sept. 21, 1904, in High Point, a son of Charles and Minnie Hedrick Beck, who both preceded him in death. He graduated from High Point High School. He attended Catawba College and Philadelphia Musical Academy in Philadelphia. On May 2, 1930, he married the former Mildred Kalchthaler and they resided in Grosse Pointe Park, until relocating to Evangelical Home in Saline. He was a member of Grace United Church of Christ. He was employed with Ford Motor Co. for 25 years.
Surviving are a son, John Charles Beck and his wife, Rosalind, 2261 Howard Drive, Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Essle Beck Haney of 15712 Sussex St., Detroit, and Mrs. Anne Swaim Johnson of 522 Gatewood Ave, High Point, N.C.; five nieces; and a nephew.
Funeral was held Nov. 27 at Verheyden Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Grosse Pointe Park Cemetery.

Bettie Cable
High Point
Ms. Bettie Lou Cable, 69, of Sheraton Towers died Oct. 29, 2000.
Surviving are a son, Steven Mathewson of Connecticut; a daughter, Cheryl Mathewson of Connecticut; a sister, Patricia Crocker of Louisiana; her cousin, Wayne Cox of High Point; and a special friend, Ken Campbell of High Point.
Memorial service will be 6 tonight at Cloverdale Church of God by the Rev. David Perry.

Joann Ham
Lexington
Ms. Joann Ham, 47, died Nov. 27, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Charles Hoover
Asheboro
Robert Charles Hoover, 75, of 501 Lewallen Road died Nov. 26, 2000, at Randolph Hospital Inc.
He was a lifelong resident of Randolph County, a son of Ray and Queen Hoover, who both preceded him in death. He retired from Sew Special. He was an instructor at Randolph Community College where he taught sewing machine mechanics. After his retirement, he worked at Servco in Ramseur until his health declined.
He helped start the Ash-Rand Rescue Squad and West Side Fire Department. He was a devoted husband, beloved dad and grandfather and a devout Christian. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Hoover.
Surviving are his wife, Ruby McNeill Hoover of the residence; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rebekah “Becky” and Cecil Barnes of High Point, Margie and Roger Strider and Joy Hoover, all of Asheboro; a granddaughter and grandson, Brigette and Paul Welton of Apex; a sister, Elizabeth Kessler of Asheboro; three brothers, Roy Hoover, Coy Hoover and Virgil Hoover, all of Asheboro and several nieces and nephews
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Claudie Harrison. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Ira Johnson
Denton
Ira Thomas “Tom” Johnson Sr., 71, of Forest Park Drive died Nov. 25, 2000, at Britthaven of Davidson in Thomasville, after a lengthy illness.
He was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Thomasville, a son of Thomas F. Johnson and Edna Lee Ritchie. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent and a member of the official board. He was employed with Thornton Knitting Co. in Denton as a plant manager and corporate secretary-treasurer, serving 29 years. He later was employed as a Realty agent with Town & Country Realty in Thomasville and worked as a tax preparer for H&R Block Co. and later as a independent preparer.
He was a graduate of Thomasville High School and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served overseas with the 441st CIC detachment in the Far East Theater. He was a former member of Davidson County Board of Education, serving a total of 12 years. He was first elected in 1964 and served until he decided not to seek re-election in 1976. He was a former member of the Denton board of Central Carolina Bank, Community General Hospital board of trustees and Davidson County Community College board of trustees. He was a member and past president of the Denton Lions Club and served as cabinet secretary of Lions International District 31-E.
He was a sports writer for Denton newspaper, including the Davidson Record, the Denton Record and the Orator, covering Denton and South Davidson High School sports for 40 years. He attended all but one Denton and South Davidson High School football and basketball games, both home and away for a period of 40 years. He served as statistician for the football team during that period.
Surviving are a son, Ira Thomas Jr. of Thomasville; a daughter, Mrs. R.S. (Virginia) Harrison of Denton; five grandchildren, Melissa Lee Harrison, Emily Ryan Harrison, Laura Ann Harrison, Mary Evelyn Harrison and Martha Caitlin Johnson; two sisters, Mrs. W.T. (Dorothy) Green Jr. of Gainesville, Fla., and Mrs. Stuart (Helen) Kennedy of Thomasville; and two brothers, Robert L. Johnson of Thomasville and James F. Johnson of Burlington.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Joe Collins. Inurnment will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Thomasville. Visitation will be 2-3 Saturday at the church.

William Locke
Chapel Hill
William Davis Locke, 81, died Nov. 26, 2000, at his residence.
He was a native of Enfield. He graduated from High Point College in 1940 and entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942. During World War II, he flew 83 combat missions as a fighter pilot in the European Theater of operations. As a career Air Force pilot, he flew 41 combat missions in the Korean Conflict prior to being shot down and captured by enemy forces. He is the only Air Force prisoner of war to have escaped from a Korean death march during the entire Korean Conflict.
During his military career, he ascended to the rank of major and was twice awarded the “Distinguished Flying Cross;” won 19 air medals; received the follwing: the Purple Heart, the POW Medal, a Distinguished Unit Citation, 8 battlestars; and other various ribbons.
He retired from the Air Force in 1962, having completed his military service as the UNC AFROTC associate professor of air science. He was head of the UNC traffic department until 1982. He was a member of the Chapel Hill Rotary Club for 30 years and was selected as a Paul Harris Fellow.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Ronda Sebastian Locke of Chapel Hill, formerly of High Point; a daughter, Karen Locke Williams of Greensboro; two grandchildren, Stephanie Williams of Chicago and Bryan Williams of Chapel Hill; a brother, Lorenzo Locke; and a sister, Mrs. James Taylor, both of Enfield.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. today at University United Methodist Church.
