Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Brown New Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be at Holly Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. at the church and other times at the residence. Thomas-Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Jesse Clark Hill, formerly of Jamestown, died Dec. 2, 2000, at the Saturn Nursing Center, Charlotte.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Sechrest Funeral Service in High Point.

David Johnson
Sophia
David Kenneth “Ken” Johnson, 72, of 6574 U.S. 311, died Dec. 3, 2000, at his home.
He was a native of Davidson County and was a U.S. Army veteran who served during the Korean War. He was a retired painter at Hatteras Yachts and a member of Old Union Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nellie H. Johnson of the home; three daughters, Sheila Barnes, Debbie Brady and Fonda Johnson, all of Sophia; a son, David Brian Johnson of Sophia; two brothers, Carlis R. Johnson of Thomasville and Ronnie Johnson of Lexington; three sisters, Elsie Woodring, Jean Myers and Juanita Swaim, all of High Point; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at Old Union United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lanny Lancaster. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the Pugh Funeral Home, Randleman.
Memorials may be made to Old Union Methodist Church, 5077 Walker Mill Road, Randleman, N.C. 27317.

Ocie King
Archdale
Mrs. Ocie Deaton King, 86, of Graybrier Nursing and Retirement Center died Dec. 2, 2000, at the nursing facility.
She was born June 4, 1914, in Guilford County, a daughter of James T. and Alice Bruce Deaton. She was a resident of High Point most of her life, and a member of Green Street Baptist Church and the Jane Adams Sunday School Class. She was married to Albert A. King, who preceded her in death in 1983. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty McCall, in 1980.
Surviving are a son, Albert A. King Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Archdale; a sister, Eva Buck of High Point; a brother, Doc Deaton of Graham; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Cumby Family Funeral Service Chapel in Archdale by the Rev. Gene A. Phillips. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Green Street Baptist Church, Building Fund, 303 N. Rotary Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

M. Kirkman
Thomasville
Mrs. Myrtle Richardson Kirkman, 86, of 311 E. Holly Hill Rd. died Dec. 3, 2000, in Community General Hospital.
She was born July 5, 1914, in Randolph County, a daughter of John Richardson and Daisy Klass Richardson. She lived most of her life in the area, and retired from Ragan Hosiery Mill. She was a member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the #2 Sunday School Class. She was married to Howard C. Kirkman, who preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1972.
Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Mary Workman of the home; and special friends, Mrs. Sandra Hill and the Hand family.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Stuart White and the Rev. Kenneth Miller. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Nannie Matthews
Archdale
Mrs. Nannie Lee Perdue Matthews, 92, a former resident of Edgedale Dr., High Point died Dec. 2, 2000, at Tru-Care Nursing Home.
She was born in High Point March 18, 1908, a daughter of John and Jane Foust Perdue. She was educated in the High Point City Schools and attended Guilford Business School. She was a homemaker and a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin D. “Buck” Matthews and a son, Marvin D. “Buddy” Matthews Jr.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Virginia P. Clark of High Point and Mrs. Dorothy F. Grissom of Thomasville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Donald Stevenson of the First Reformed United Church of Christ. Visitation will be at the funeral home 2 p.m. Tuesday until the service.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Stanford Phipps
Kernersville
Stanford Justice Phipps, 87, died Dec. 1, 2000.
He was born in Forsyth County, a son of Robert A. and Audrey Ellen Idol Phipps, who preceded him in death. He was a retiree of Duke Power Co. He was a World War II United States Marine veteran, having served in the South Pacific theater with the 1st. Infantry Division 5th Amphibious Division, he was a life member and past commander of the I.T. Mann American Legion Post #87 in High Point, a life member and past commander of the Oscar Joyner VFW Post 5352 in Kernersville. An avid golfer and baseball fan, he worked with and supported the American Legion baseball team for many years. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Juanita P. Fulp and Blanche Phipps and three brothers, Robert W. Phipps, Olin Phipps and Russell Phipps.
Surviving are his wife, Gladys Freeman Phipps of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Katherine Adams Phipps, of Kernersville; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Dennis Welborn, of Lexington; three grandchildren, Michael Phipps Jr., Molly Phipps and Kelly Purser; a great-grandchild, Sara Katherine Purser; and number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held (weather permitting) 1 p.m. Monday at Hayworth Miller Cain Funeral Home chapel by the Rev. Dana McKim. Burial will be in the Bunker Hill Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be (weather permitting) 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Bunker Hill Methodist Church Cemetery, 1510 Bunker Hill Sandy Ridge Road, Kernersville, N.C. 27284.

Danny Ray Reeder, 47, died Dec. 2, 2000.
Funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of Pearl Causey, 4617 Robbins Circle, Asheboro. Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lee Roy Reeder, 59, died Dec. 1, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bethel Church of God. Visitation will be at Ridge Funeral Home 6-9 tonight and other times at the home. Ridge Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Birdie Sharpe
Jamestown
Mrs. Birdie Edwards Sharpe, 95, of 4816 W. Wendover Ave. died Dec. 3, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Oct. 16, 1905, in Guilford County, a daughter of Oliver A. and Jennie Sullivan Edwards. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a former employee of Vicks Chemical Co. She was a member of Global Missions Church of High Point and was known for her strong Christian heritage and faithfulness to the church. She was known throughout the community as “Mama Sharpe.” She married James Hamilton Sharpe on Dec. 24, 1929. He preceded her in death in 1970. She also was preceded in death by three sons-in-law; Don Brueck, Ron Craddock and Gary Lackey, two sisters and three brothers.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Jean Brueck of Crown Point, Ind., Mrs. Frances Lackey of Jamestown, Mrs. Elizabeth Carroll and husband, Ed, of Jamestown and Mrs. Vallie Milloway and husband, Garry, of High Point; one son, Edward Sharpe and wife, Kay, of Cherokee; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 5959 Hickory Grove Road, Greensboro, by Elders Andrew Simmons, Barney Yaskiewicz and Rick Yaskiewicz. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Gerald Summey Jr.
Atlanta
Gerald W. Summey Jr., 75, died Nov. 13, 2000, at the Veterans Hospital.
He was a son of Gerald and Martha Summey, who both preceded him in death. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II.
Surviving are a sister, Ellen Hobson of Bessemer City, N.C.; and three nephews.
Memorial service was held Nov. 15 in Atlanta. Graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday in Oakwood Cemetery, High Point, N.C.

Alma Allen
Snow Camp
Mrs. Alma “Aunt Alma” Allen, 97, died Dec. 3, 2000.
She was born Sept. 10, 1903, in Alamance County, a daughter of David Franklin and Martha Ellen Andrew Teague. She retired from Harris and Covington Hosiery with 45 years of service and retired later as a sitter with High Point Regional Hospital. She resided in Snow Camp for the past 15 years with her niece, Louise Wilson. She enjoyed cooking and made deserts for Ye Old Country Kitchen in Snow Camp. She was active in senior citizens groups in High Point and Snow Camp. She was a member of High Point Friends Meeting since 1925. She was married to Lewis Allen, who preceded her in death in 1982.
Surviving are nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ollie Belle Allen and Mrs. Evelyn Allen, both of High Point, and Mrs. Lois Grant of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at High Point Friends Meeting House by the Rev. Dave Kingrey and the Rev. Victor Murchison. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will be at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home, High Point, until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Cane Creek Friends Meeting for friends in Snow Camp.

Ms. Sylvia Jane Phillips Botelho, 46, died Dec. 3, 2000.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Randolph Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Ridge Funeral Home.

Mary Dolan
High Point
Mrs. Mary Veronica McGough Dolan, 91, of Westwood Avenue died Dec. 4, 2000, at Maryfield Nursing Center.
She was born Feb. 13, 1909, in Philadelphia, Pa., a daughter of Thomas and Mary McGeehan McGough. She was formerly employed as a clerk with First Union Bank. She was a resident of Maryfield for the last five years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Dolan Sr. and a daughter, Margaret Dolan.
Surviving are two sons, Michael Dolan Jr. of Greensboro and Thomas Dolan and his wife, Candace, of High Point; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Harold C. Davis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Walter Eldreth
Houston
Walter Lovill Eldreth, 69, of 17831 Glenmark died Nov. 23, 2000, at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Houston.
He was born June 23, 1931, in Creston Township, Ashe County, N.C., a son of William Ned and Dora Harris Eldreth, who both preceded him in death. He resided in High Point, N.C., prior to moving to Houston. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean Conflict. He was self-employed in the furniture business in Houston. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by his family and friends. He also was preceded in death by his infant daughter and his brother, Boyd Eldreth.
Surviving are his wife, Belen Eldreth; five sons, Walter Eldreth Jr. of Munford, Ala., James Eldreth, Frank Eldreth, Matthew and Ricky Eldreth, all of Houston; three daughters, Jackie Ulfig of Brighton, Mich., Artie Spindler of Cypress, Texas, and Alice Eldreth of Houston; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bruce and Ray Eldreth, both of High Point, and Jim Eldreth of Delaware.
Funeral was Nov. 27, 2000, at South Park Funeral Home. Burial was in Southpark Cemetery, Pearland, Texas.

Houston Farlow
High Point
Houston Kendall Farlow, 82, of 131 Farlow Lane died Dec. 4, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born July 21, 1918, in Guilford County, a son of Edward McKay and Essie Walker Farlow. He was a lifelong resident of the High Point area. He was a member of Rankin Memorial United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Walt Moon Bible Class, choir and the Methodist Men. He retired from the United States Postal Service with 30 years of service and coached Little League Baseball for several years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served during World War II. On May 18, 1940, he married the former Miss Della Mae Payne, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are five children, Kendall “Ken” Farlow and his wife, Sara, of Julian, Don Farlow and his wife, Marlene, of High Point, Teresa Farlow McRae and her husband, Tom, of High Point, Keith Farlow and his wife, Donna, of High Point, and Richard Farlow of High Point; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Lois Godwin of Interlachen, Fla.; and a brother, Eiland Farlowe of Trinity.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rankin Memorial United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lee Pollock. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.
Memorials may be directed to Rankin Memorial United Methodist Church, Building Fund, 314 Barker Ave., High Point, N.C. 27262.

Stephen Lee Finney, 38, of 540 Cedar Drive died Dec. 3. 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. at Piedmont Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Grace Frazier
High Point
Mrs. Grace VonCannon Frazier, 91, of Evergreens Senior Health Care, Greensboro, died Dec. 4, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 10, 1909, in Star, a daughter of Milton VonCannon and Cora King VonCannon. She had worked for Duke Power and was a homemaker. She was an active member of High Point Friends Meeting for many years. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Milton and Paul VonCannon. On Aug. 1, 1926, she married Oscar Rudolph Frazier, who preceded her in death Dec. 11, 1989.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Anna Frazier Draughn and her husband, Robert “Bucky,” of High Point; a son, O. Rudolph “Rudy” Frazier Jr. and his wife, Vivian, of High Point; a sister, Mrs. Ruth VonCannon Smith of Linwood; four grandchildren, Eric Frazier, Mrs. Deanna Frazier Kaplan, Bobby Draughn and Michael Draughn; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at High Point Friends Meeting by the Rev. David Kingrey and the Rev. Victor Murchinson. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Thursday at High Point Friends Meeting Parlor.
Memorials may be directed to High Point Friends Meeting, 800 Quaker Lane, High Point, N.C. 27262.
