Ms. Mary Elizabeth Davis, 57, died Jan. 6, 2001, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Memorial service will be private at a later date.
She was born Jan. 10, 1943, in High Point, a daughter of Edwin J. Davis and Mary Williams Woodell, who both preceded her in death.
Surviving are a brother, Edwin Michael Davis of Rocky Point; a sister, Kathy Davis Abrahamson of McLeansville; four nieces and nephews; and numerous loved ones.
Memorials may be directed to the Epilepsy Foundation of North Carolina, 3001 Spring Forest Road, Raleigh, N.C. 27616.
Andrews Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Sarah Frontis
High Point
Mrs. Sarah Catherine Frontis, 69, of Wesleyan Arms Nursing Center, formerly of Asheboro, died Jan. 6, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital, after declining health of six months.
She was born Sept. 12, 1931, in Rowan County, a daughter of George and Reena Alexander. She was a graduate of Dunbar High School, Mooresville. She moved her residency to High Point in 1955, where she resided until 1982, when she moved to Asheboro. She returned to High Point in 1998. She was formerly employed as custodian at Indian Head Hosiery Mill and International Home Furnishings Center. She was a member at Church of God of Prophecy, Stanton Place, where she was a member of the Senior Choir, Sunday school department and missionary board until failing health curtailed her activities. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Dover Frontis, in August 1981. She also was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Natory Ja’quan Royal Davis in 1997.
Surviving are three sons, Harold Steven Frontis of Durham, Frankie Lee Frontis of Asheboro and Larry Wayne Frontis of Greensboro; two daughters, Mrs. Geraldine Patterson of Chapel Hill and Mrs. Vanessa Royal and her husband, Franklin, who was a faithful and devoted son-in-law, both of High Point; two grandchildren, Contessa Nicole Royal and Dashaun Royal, both of High Point; a brother, Richard Alexander of Salisbury; and nieces, among them, Naomi Wilson, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, including Claudine Jones and Bernadette Small.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel by Bishop Floyd Collins. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service.

Robert Gearhart
Thomasvillle
Dr. Robert Paul Gearhart, 88, died Dec. 27, 2000, with his wife at his side at Piedmont Retirement Center in Thomasville.
He was born in Montoursville, Pa. He received a degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh prior to graduating from Temple Medical School in 1939. He interned at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in Erie, Pa. He served as chief resident at the newly opened Triboro Hospital in New York City, prior to joining the staff at Lenox Hill in 1943.
He was an attending physician at Lenox Hill Hospital for 45 years. In 1948, he was appointed to the teaching faculty and was named chief of pulmonary medicine in 1964. He served for many years as chief of the nursing health service and chief of the employee health service, which were ultimately combined under his direction. With little interest in hospital politics and business, he declined several high-profile opportunities during his career. He much preferred to lead rounds with residents and brighten the hospital with his spirit and humor. He dedicated himself to his patients and practice and retired in 1988.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mrs. Golda Gearhart; his daughter, Susan Olshinski; two sons, Robert Gearhart Jr. and Reid Gearhart; and three grandchildren, Shane Olshinski, Erin Olshinski Queen and Erin Gearhart.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Jan. 13 at Piedmont Retirement Center.
Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice or to the Alzheimer’s Association, 237 Idol St., High Point, N.C. 27262.
Dr. Murray R. Rogers, chief, pulmonary medicine, and the pulmonary section of Lenox Hill Hospital department of medicine mourns the loss of its former chief and doctor of medicine. He was a member of the staff since 1943, this gifted and compassionate physician leaves behind a legacy of service to our programs in patient care. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to his wife, Golda, and his family.

Agnes Jones

Mrs. Agnes Lela Lisk Jones, 94, died Jan. 7, 2001.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Mr. & Mrs. Roy Adkins, 794 Skycrest Country Road.

John Kendrick Sr.
Jamestown
John Kenneth Kendrick Sr., 77, of 504 Southridge Road died Jan. 8, 2001, at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
He was born Sept. 28, 1923, in Greenville County, S.C., a son of Richard Clyde Kendrick Sr. and Lena Rebecca Quinn Kendrick. He retired from Royals Inc. in 1986. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran, having served during World War II. On Nov. 19, 1945, he married Callie Josephine Heilig, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Sandra K. Wyatt and her husband, Gordon, of Atlanta, Ga., and Ms. Debbie L. Kendrick of Clarksville, Va.; a son, John K. Kendrick Jr. of High Point; a sister, Mrs. Marguerite Stevenson of Great Falls, S.C.; a brother, Charles L. Kendrick of Simpsonville, S.C.; and four grandchildren, Gretchen N. Kendrick, Katherine F. Wyatt, Andrew G. Wyatt and Matthew J. Kendrick.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sechrest Chapel, E. Lexington Avenue, by the Rev. Robey Ayers. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

James Medlin
High Point
James Richard Medlin, 55, of 101-B Northgate Court died Jan. 8, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service on Eastchester Drive.

Lexy Mize
Lexington
Miss Lexy Jan Mize, infant daughter of Jeff L. and Delilah S. Mize, of N.C. 64 West, died at 2:17 a.m. Jan. 7, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service and other times at the residence of the grandparents, 1941 Briggstown Road.

Keith Price
Norfolk, Va.
Keith Anthony Price, 36, of 1401 Johnston Road, formerly of High Point, died Jan. 3, 2001, at Sentoria Norfolk General Hospital.
He was born in High Point, N.C., a son of Melvin and JoAnn Miller Price. He attended the public schools of High Point and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two sons, Derrick Bryant of High Point and Keith Love of Greensboro; his parents of High Point; a brother, Melvin Price Jr. of High Point; a sister, Melanie Ann Price Johnson of High Point; and aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends, among them, Ms. Stephanie Foster, who was very special.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. at First Emmanuel Baptist Church by the Rev. Lawrence Curtis. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the church and other times at the residence of his parents, 1003 Montlieu Ave.

Carl Sell
Winston-Salem
Carl Wade Sell, 86, of 794 Disher Road died Jan. 6, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
He was born May 11, 1914, in Tucker County, W.Va., a son of Paige Sell and Anna Slaubaugh Sell. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during World War II. He retired from Alma Desk Co. of High Point. He was of the Baptist faith. He was married to Marce Lena Weavil Sell, who preceded him in death March 28, 1978.
Surviving are two daughters, Ms. Louise Billings of Asheville and Mrs. Richard (Janice) Owens of Winston-Salem; a son, Wade Sell of the residence; a brother, Delbert H. Sell of Lexington; two grandchildren, Gary Owens and Debbie DeLapp; a great-grandson, Brandon DeLapp; a stepgrandson, DeWayne Lambeth; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Will Lambeth and Kindall Lambeth.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel, Thomasville, by the Rev. Cecil Worley. Burial will be in Midway Baptist Church Cemetery, Midway Community. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Gaither Walser

Gaither Stokes Walser, 67, of Lantern Lane died at 9:05 a.m. Jan. 8, 2001, at his residence.
He was born Jan. 8, 1934, in Davidson County, a son of Donald Adderton Walser and Margaret McNulty Walser. He was a graduate of Woodberry Forest School and received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He completed a postgraduate course in taxation at the New York University School of Law. He was a Phi Delta Phi member and a member of the board of editors with North Carolina Law Review in 1958. He was a senior partner with Brinkley Walser Law Firm in Lexington. He practiced in the area of tax law, corporation law, real estate law, estate planning and business litigation. He was a member of the North Carolina Bar Association and served on the committee on taxation from 1959 to 1965. He was a member of the American Bar Association and served on the committee on income of estates and trusts from 1968 to 1970. He was a member of the National Association of Railroad Trial Counsel.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanne “Toni” Tomlin Walser of the residence; a son, Vance Walser and his wife, Joy, of Lexington; a daughter, Carolyn and her husband, Earl Johnson III, of Raleigh; two stepsons, Gill Mende and David Mende, both of Atlanta; a stepdaughter, Cynthia King of Columbia, S.C.; two grandchildren, Earl Johnson IV and Sydney Patterson Johnson, both of Raleigh; three stepgrandchildren, Kathleen King and Emma King, both of Columbia and Katherine Mende of Atlanta.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at First Lutheran Church by the Rev. Craven Ford. Burial will be private in Yadkin College Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the residence of his son, 201 Country Club Drive.

John Welborn Jr.

John William Welborn Jr., 77, of Creekwood Forest Drive died Jan. 7, 2001, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.
He was born Feb. 17, 1923, in Forsyth County, a son of John and Maggie Payne Welborn, who both preceded him in death. He was a lifelong resident of Forsyth County. He was a graduate of Sedge Garden High School. He was a retired carpenter and farmer. He was a member of Abbott’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church and the Dan Hayworth Bible Class. He also was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Bessie Edwards and Mrs. Margaret Cline.
Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Cora Mae Willard of Gable, S.C., Mrs. Gladys “Pat” Griffin of Kernersville, Mrs. Betty Rose Alcon of Winston-Salem and Mrs. Billie Ann Alcon and her husband, J.C., of High Point; and 18 nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Abbott’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Lee Stocks, the Rev. Jack Rose, the Rev. Roy Cantrell and the Rev. Michael Smith. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.
Memorials may be directed to Abbott’s Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 2816 Abbott’s Creek Road, High Point, N.C. 27265 or to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.
