Mrs. Mary Lou Yow Allen, 72, of 1006 Tipton St. died Feb. 21, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born June 28, 1928, in High Point, a daughter of Luther Jerome Yow and Edna Livengood Yow. She retired from Alma Desk Co. in 1993, after 30 years of service. She was a member of Emerywood Baptist Church. On Sept. 28, 1951, she married Dallas Roy Allen, who preceded her in death in 1992. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Luther Jerome Yow Jr.
Surviving are a son, Daniel C. Allen and his wife, Sheri, of Chapel Hill; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Davis of High Point and Ms. Peggy Jane Yow of Orlando, Fla.; a brother, Charles James Yow of Trinity; and two grandchildren, Shelby Nicole Allen and Peyton Michelle Allen.
Funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Sechrest Chapel, E. Lexington Avenue, by the Rev. Randy Haithcock. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Home.

Catherine Boyd
Greensboro
Mrs. Catherine Wright Boyd, 71, of 3617 Lewiston Road died Feb. 20, 2001, at Moses Cone Hospital after hospitalization of three days.
She was born in Fairfield County, S.C., a daughter of Melvin and Eloise Metz Wright Sr., who both preceded her in death. She attended school in Fairfield County, and as a young adult, she came to Greensboro, where she resided for more than 40 years. She completed courses in early childhood training at Guilford Technical Community College. She retired from Chester Brook Day Care, having served more than 20 years.
She was an active member of Zion Hill United Methodist Church in the Colfax Community. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, communion steward, usher and served on the committee of evangelism. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Boyd, Dec. 27, 1996; two brothers, Willie Wright and Melvin Wright Jr.; and a sister, Bernice W. Adams.
Surviving are two brothers, Eddie Wright of Greensboro and Boykin Wright of High Point; two sisters, Mrs. Alberta Brothers of Charlestown, S.C., and Mrs. Rose W. Bass of Hartford, Conn.; an aunt, Mrs. Mary Metz of Greensboro; and nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Zion Hill United Methodist Church by the Rev. Fred Barnes. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the church and other times at the residence of Eddie Wright, 3619 Lewiston Road.
Haizlip Funeral Home, High Point, is in charge of arrangements.

John Campbell
Lexington
John Nabers Campbell, 56, of N.C. 150 South died at 11 p.m. Feb. 21, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer of two years.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Saturday at the funeral home.

Robert Evans
Trinity
Robert Baxter Evans, 94, formerly of Graybrier Nursing and Retirement Center and of 5419 Tobacco Road, died Feb. 19, 2001, at High Point Care Center, where he was a resident for a month and in declining health a year.
He was born Feb. 18, 1907, in Randolph County, a son of Robert and Susie Evans. He was a lifelong resident of his native county. He was employed many years with Southern Railway. He retired from Eckerd Drugs in the mid 1970s. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Trinity until his health began to decline. His wife of 69 years, Mrs. Jessie Cunningham Evans, preceded him in death Jan. 1, 2000. He also was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Jason Evans and Joseph Oliver Evans.
Surviving are four sons, O’Neal (Carolyn) Evans, of Danville, Va., Ashley Evans of Trinity, Ronald (Teresa) Evans of High Point and Harold (Kathleen “Penny”) Evans, of Jamestown; four daughters, Treva (Erby) Oglesby of Asheville, Eva Evans and Margaret Naomi (Walter) Wilson, both of Kernersville, and Ethel Evans of Winston-Salem; 15 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Hartense E. Leach of High Point; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ella Mae Cunningham of Washington, D.C.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. James Harris Jr. and the Rev. William Hill. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8 tonight at Haizlip Funeral Chapel, High Point, and other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Evans, 1712 Chatfield Drive, Jamestown. The family will assemble at 2:15 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home for the procession to the church.

Helen Hargrove
High Point
Ms. Helen Hargrove, 50, of 1117 Carter St. died Feb. 19, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, after a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 23, 1950, a daughter of George and Lula Hawkins Talley, who both preceded her in death.
Public viewing will be 3 p.m. today at Upper Room Baptist Church, 166 Ravina Lane. Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 106 Smith St., Thomasville, by the Rev. H.N. Goode. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8 tonight at Upper Room Baptist Church.
Gilmore Funeral Service of High Point, is in charge of arrangements.

James Pickard
High Point
James Ervin Pickard, 86, of 538 Sink Lake Road died Feb. 21, 2001, at his residence.
He was born May 8, 1914, in Guilford County, a son of James Irvin and Betty Craven Pickard. He was married to Mary Lillian Dennis in December 1934. He moved to Norfolk, Va., in 1941 and was in civil service 30 years before returning to High Point in 1975. He was a mason at Elizabeth Lodge #34 in Norfolk for 50 years and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mary “Boots” Pickard of the residence; two sons, Jimmy L. Pickard and his wife, Geanie, of High Point, and Stephen R. Pickard and a very special friend, Doris Livengood, both of Hickory; a brother, Charles Pickard of Jamestown; four grandchildren, Kim P. Brown and Scott Pickard, both of High Point, Chris Pickard and Kevin Pickard, both of Hickory; eight great-grandchildren, Lindsey Pickard, Kelly Pickard, Adam Pickard, Jennifer Pickard, Ryan Brown and Natalie Brown, all of High Point and David Pickard and Austin Pickard, both of Hickory; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Oakview Baptist Church by the Rev. Steve Smith.
Memorials may be directed to the Oakview Building Tomorrow Program, 810 Oakview Road, High Point, N.C. 27265.
Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, is in charge of arrangements.

Sara Richardson
High Point
Mrs. Sarah Jane Southern Richardson, 63, of 1801 Johnson St. died Feb. 21, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Aug. 24, 1937, in Guilford County, a daughter of Clarence and Agatha Mabry Southern, who both preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of High Point and a member of Ward Street United Methodist Church. She had a loving heart and a great fondness of children, animals and friends. On Dec. 24, 1957, she married Harold Delano Richardson, who survives of the residence. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Clarence Southern.
Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Darah LeeAnn Leonard and her husband, Mike, of Daytona Beach, Fla., Ms. Doris “Dede” Barnett of Davidson County, and Ms. Janet Spratt of High Point; two sons, Harold “Buddy” Richardson II and his wife, Dana, of Thomasville, and Joseph Richardson of the residence; a sister, Anne Coltrane and her husband, J.D., of Trinity; her sister-in-law, Doris Sigwald and her husband, Marion, of Charleston, S.C.; and four grandchildren, Brandi and Christa Dillard, and Aubrey and Jamie Richardson.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Cumby Family Funeral Service Chapel, Eastchester Drive, by the Rev. Kenneth Hill. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

S. Shanke
Thomasville
Mrs. Snowdean Shankle, 80, died Feb. 22, 2001, at her residence.
She was born Feb. 25, 1920, in Durham, a daughter of Otis and Lorena Crabtree Hester. She was a lifelong resident of the High Point and Thomasville area. She was a homemaker. She was married to Mark Warren Shankle in 1939, who preceded her in death Aug. 25, 1980. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Marchall Shankle and Robert Shankle; and five brothers and sisters.
Surviving are five daughters, Christine Ridge and her husband, Wendell, and Wanda Farlow and her husband, Lee, all of Archdale, Kay Hefner and her husband, Jack, and Alice Zimmerman and her husband, Chuck, all of Trinity, and Jean Shivley and her husband, Alan, of High Point; four sons, Mark W. Shankle Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Lexington, Alan R. Shankle and his wife, Lisa, of Trinity, J. Phillip Shankle and his wife, Wendy, of Randleman, and Ricky Shankle of High Point; a sister, Odie Jones of High Point; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Carroll M. Upton. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Pansy Walker
Lexington
Mrs. Pansy Fowler Walker, 78, of Hamil Street died at 9:22 p.m. Feb. 21, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, after declining health of 2 years.
She was born May 20, 1922, in Dobson, a daughter of John Henry Fowler and Martha Wood Fowler. She was a homemaker. She was of the Holiness faith.
Surviving are her husband, George Mickey Walker of the residence; a daughter, Teresa Soles of Lexington; four brothers, Melvin James Fowler and his wife, Donna, of Lexington, Edd Fowler and his wife, Magdalene, of Thomasville, John Fowler and his wife, Kim, and Doug Fowler, all of Trinity; and two sisters, Nancy Cain and her husband, Robert, of Trinity, and Irene Tinkler of Lexington.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Wayside Tabernacle Freewill Baptist Church, Thomasville, by the Rev. Floyd Edwards and the Rev. Junior Garrett. Burial will be in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the residence of his sister, 4275 Wedgewood Terrace, Trinity.

Frances Crews
High Point
Mrs. Frances Marie Gravely Crews, of 425 Seminole Court died Feb. 24, 2001, in High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born March 24, 1924, in Roanoke, Va., a daughter of Benjamin Moton and Fannie Minter Gravely. She was a registered nurse, having graduated from City Hospital in Winston-Salem and a member of Waughtown Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. She was married Jan. 24, 1947, to Francis Hylton “Frank” Crews, who survives of the home. She was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Gravely Rieves and a brother, Benjamin M. Gravely Jr.
Also surviving are a son, David Eugene “Gene” Crews and his wife, Doris, of Clayton; a daughter, Ms. Sharon Marie Crews of San Diego; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Millicent C. Stephenson of Winston-Salem; a nephew, Larry Wayne Stephenson of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Jennifer Marie Hulse and her husband, Andrew, Catherine Paige Boose, Heather Leigh Crews and David Matthew Crews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Wallburg by the Rev. Jack Rose. Burial will be in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens, Winston-Salem. Visitation will be 7 to 9 tonight and other times at the residence, 425 Seminole Court.

Lacy Comer
High Point
Lacy Daniel Comer, 80, of 3400 Central Ave. died at 2:15 p.m. Feb. 24, 2001, at Graybrier Nursing Center following declining health since October.
He was born March 22, 1920, in Moore County, a son of John Henry and Artimitia Cagle Comer. He had been a resident of High Point most of his life and was a retired employee of Crescent Ford. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy and attended Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church. On March 18, 1939, he was married to Sue Martin, who preceded him in death Feb. 19, 1998. He also was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are a daughter, Miss Kathy Comer of the home; four sons, Dean Comer and his wife, Jan, of Lewisville, Danny Comer and his wife, Nell, of Thomasville, Mike Comer of High Point and Keith Comer and his wife, Darien, of Trinity; a brother, W.C. Comer of High Point; a special friend, Aileen Jones; and four grandchildren, Tiffany Comer, Christopher Comer, Courtney Comer and Mackenzie Comer.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Douglas T. Caldwell. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7 to 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
