Gloria Jean Cooper McBride, 43, of Wilson Road, died at 12:40 a.m. March 2, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, after a lengthy illness.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Churchland Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the residence of her parents, 6450 S. N.C. 150.

Nancy Stroud
High Point
Mrs. Nancy Stroud, 92, formerly of 1700 Chestnut Drive, died March 1, 2001, at Maryfield Nursing Home, after declining health since March of 1992.
She was born May 30, 1908, in Newton, a daughter of James A. and Callie Davis Yount. She was a homemaker and loved to work in her flowers and yard. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She married Klyma Allison Stroud in 1928, who preceded her in death Sept. 6, 1976.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Billie Owens of 1410 Sweetbriar Court, High Point; three grandchildren, Richard “Rich” H. Owens Jr. and Wendy Owens, both of High Point, and Misty Holland and her husband, Derek, of Arlington, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Kristin Owens, Richard H. “Rich” Owens III, and Dusty Owens Lillo; a sister, Mrs. Billie Beam of Hickory; and a half sister, Miss Helen Yount of Conover; a niece, Mrs. Betty Beck of High Point; a nephew, Jack Setzer, and his wife, Ann, of Archdale.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Emmanuel Lutheran Church by the Rev. John L. Petry. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Home, E. Lexington Avenue, until placed in the church at the time of service. Visitation will be 4-5:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her granddaughter, Wendy Owens, 2102 Mast Ave.
Memorials may be directed to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1401 Heathcliff Road, High Point, N.C. 27262 or Maryfield Nursing Home, 1315 Greensboro Road, High Point, N.C. 27260 or to Alzheimer's Association, 237 Idol St., High Point, N.C. 27262.

Mrs. Hazel H. Albright, 84, of 7240 E. Holly Grove Road, died March 9, 2001, at Britthaven of Davidson.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home, Thomasville.

Mrs. Lillian Alice Ritter Bullins, 74, died March 9, 2001.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Huldah Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Ridge Funeral Home, Asheboro, and other times at the residence of Don and Judy Bullins, 766 Bray Blvd., Asheboro.

Velna Coe
Thomasville
Mrs. Velna Beatrice Beck Coe, 82, of Pineywood Road, died March 8, 2001.
She was born April 16, 1918, in Davidson County, a daughter of James Curtis Beck and Martha Curry Beck. She was a lifelong resident of this area. She was co-owner and operator of Grady’s Sunoco and Wrecker Service. She was a member of Hillside Park Baptist Church. She was married to Grady Coe, who preceded her in death Jan. 13, 1981.
Surviving are a son, Larry Workman of Archdale; and four grandchildren.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. Sunday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. John Wheeles. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Disease Eastern N.C. Chapter, Duke University Medical Center, Room 153 Civitan Building, Durham, N.C. 27710.

Brenda Deaton

Mrs. Brenda Davis Deaton, 51, of 4936 Poplar Ridge Road, died March 8, 2001, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was a native of Guilford County. She was employed with Four Star Hosiery Mill of High Point.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph Robert Hendley of Trinity; two daughters, Melissa Newton of Columbia, S.C., and Katie Smith of the residence; her father, Jimmie Davis of Sophia; two brothers, Roger Davis of Sophia and Darrell Davis of Randleman; three sisters, Ruth Stewart of Rock Hill, S.C., Nellie Burleson of Sophia and Irene Davis of Randleman; and three grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Sunday by the Rev. Wayne Eller in Randolph Memorial Park.
Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 p.m. Sunday at Pugh Funeral Home, Asheboro.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, Randolph Unit, P.O. Box 515, Asheboro, N.C. 27204.

Mrs. Lottie Summey Haltom, 95, of Beverly Healthcare of Greensboro, formerly of 102 Council St., died March 9, 2001, at the nursing home.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel, Thomasville. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of her son, Ray Haltom, 3 Vivian St.

Mrs. Grace Link Johnson, 73, of Eastside Drive, died at 12:39 p.m. March 9, 2001, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after two years of declining health and two weeks critical.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of Grace Episcopal Church. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at her daughter’s residence, Vicki Johnson, 301 Ponders Creek Drive.

Mrs. Ora Lee Mackey-Laney died March 7, 2001, at Mercy Hospital.
She was a sister of Jason Mackey of 505 Blain Court, High Point.
Ebony-White Funeral Home, 1139 E. Pine St., Lincolnton, is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Matthews

Mrs. Mary Wilson Wall Matthews, 79, of 1100 Clarendon St. died March 9, 2001, at Highsmith Rainey Hospital.
Her sister, Winifred Cottam of High Point, is one of her survivors.
Memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Highland Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be Sunday after the memorial service.

Lynwood “Jack” Irwin Meares, 87, died March 8, 2001, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
He was born June 8, 1913, in Richmond, Va. He was the former owner of Wallburg Hardware, Wallburg Exxon and Wallburg Diner.
Surviving are his daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Charles Bradshaw of Goldsboro; a son, Don Meares; two sisters; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a special friend and companion, Janet Norman Bodenhamer.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home, Kernersville, by the Rev. Brooks Hunt. Burial will be in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

William “Bill” Lewis Owens, 72, of Tupelo Lane, died March 9, 2001, at Thomasville Community General Hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel, Thomasville. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of his son, Roger Owens, 19 Second Ave., Thomasville.
