Paul Whitaker
Kernersville - Paul William Whitaker, 67, of Woodruff Road, died Nov. 26, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born Sept. 8, 1932, in Surry County, a son of Ira and Lela Crouse Whitaker. He was formerly employed with Drexel Heritage. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Medal and the Good Conduct Medal for his service during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Whitaker.
Surviving are his wife, Sarah Frances Whitaker of the home; two sons, Randy Whitaker of Kernersville and Dwayne Whitaker of Gibsonville; three stepsons, Brian Vertefeuille of Thomasville, Michael Vertefeuille of Archdale and Scott Vertefeuille of Kernersville; a stepdaughter, Cheryl Hairgrove of Wallburg; three brothers, Wesley Whitaker of Surry County, Penny Whitaker of Elkin and Ray Whitaker of Kernersville; a half-brother, Coy Medley of China Grove; two half-sisters, Lillie Hawkins and Grace Vaughn Brown, both of Surry County; 10 grandchildren, Daniel Whitaker, Adam Whitaker, Bryant Whitaker, Ashton Whitaker, Kelly Vertefeuille, Travis Vertefeuille, Ashley Vertefeuille, Alex Vertefeuille, Matthew Hairgrove and Luke Hairgrove; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Hillcrest Baptist Church by the Rev. Mike Smith. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Randolph County Honor Guard. The body will be placed in the church one prior to the service. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home.

Marion Braunwarth
Midway - Marion Agnes Braunworth, 86, died Nov. 28, 1999.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Welcome. Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery in Philadelphia. Visitation will be at Davidson Funeral Home - Hickory Tree Chapel today from 6:30-8 p.m.

Bessie Glover
Denton - Mrs. Bessie Lanier Glover, 87, died Nov. 27, 1999.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church by Rev. Peter McGuire and Rev. Robert Hughes. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at Briggs Funeral Home today from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Bonnie Moore
High Point - Mrs. Bonnie King Moore, 59, a resident of 931 Nottingham Rd., died Nov. 28, 1999, as a result of an automobile accident.
She was born Sept. 30, 1940, in Stokes County, a daughter of Garfield and Zenobia Moser King. She had been a resident of High Point most of her life and was employed with Davis Furniture Industries as Corporate Clerk. She was a member of Green Street Baptist Church and Patrice Gillespie Sunday School Class. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association where she was a past president and recepient of the woman of the year award.
On Feb. 24, 1961, she was married to Thomas Wayne Moore.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Dan (Cindy) Keech of Burbank, Ca.; one son, Philip Allen Moore of the home; two brothers, Kelly King of El Paso, Tx. and Danny Knight of Greensboro; and one grandson, William Cody Keech.
She was preceded in death by step-father, Macon Moser.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Green Street Baptist Church by Rev. C.W. Moss. Interment will follow in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The body will remain at the Cumby Family Funeral Service, 1015 Eastchester Dr., High Point until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m.
Memorials may be directed to the building fund of Green Street Baptist Church, 303 N. Rotary Dr., High Point, N.C. 27262.

Thomas Moore
High Point - Thomas Wayne Moore, 59, a resident of 931 Nottingham Rd. died Nov. 28, 1999, as a result of an automobile accident.
He was born Jan. 4, 1940, in High Point, a son of Thomas W. and Beulah Williams Moore. He had been a resident of High Point most of his life and was employed with Davis Furniture Industries, Inc. He was a member of Green Street Baptist Church and John Riggs Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Junior Order United American Mechanics and past president of the Electrical Contractors Council. A veteran, he served with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam.
On Feb. 24, 1961, he was married to Bonnie King.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Dan (Cindy) Keech of Burbank, Ca.; one son, Philip Allen Moore of the home; one grandson, William Cody Keech; one sister, Mrs. Kelly (Peggy) King of El Paso, Tx.; and one brother, Roger D. Moore of 1323 E. Fairfield Rd.

Lexington - Tony Dale Mull, 33, died Nov. 27, 1999.

Auta Poythress
Jacksonville - Mrs. Auta Holland Poythress, 91, of 212 Owl Lane, Sneads Ferry died Nov. 27, 1999, in the Britthaven of Jacksonville.
She was born in Kershaw Co., S.C., a daughter to the late Hudson Hampton Holland and Jenny Rosette Little on April 6, 1908. She was married to Dewey H. Poythress, who preceded her in death in 1975. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Betty Corum of 1828 Cedrow Drive, High Point and Mrs. Kay Perdue and husband, Tom, of Sneads Ferry; one brother, H.H. Holland of Topsail Beach; one sister, Mrs. Sally Moody of Jacksonville; four grandchildren; and three great granchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery in Archdale. Visitation will be at Cumby Family Funeral Service of High Point today from 7-8:30 p.m. and other times at the residence of the daughter Betty Corum of High Point.

Wilda Walls
Randleman - Mrs. Wilda West Walls, 60, a resident of 6200 Branson Davis Rd. died Nov. 27, 1999, in the High Point Regional Hospital after declining health of several weeks.
She was born Sept. 18, 1939, in Guyan, W.Va., a daughter of Herbert and Tressie Browning West. She had been a resident of Randleman for the past 8 years and was employed with Clyde Person Inc. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Regina Terry of Randleman and Mrs. Ellis (Glenda Sue) Rife of Lynco, W.Va.; four sons, Arley Walls, Jr. of the home, Daniel Lee and Gregory Derris Walls, both of Madison and Anthony Scott Walls of the home; two brothers, Wetzel West of Lynco, W.Va. and Frank Jerry West of Archdale; four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Stacey of Madison, Mrs. Richard (Jewel) Poole of Trinity, Mrs. JoAnn West and Mrs. Helen Brown, both of Thomasville; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by one son, Michael Keith Walls.
Funeral will be 9 a.m. Tuesday at Cumby Family Funeral Service Chapel in Archdale by Rev. Philip Johnson. Graveside services will follow at 3 p.m. in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny, W.Va. Visitation will be at the funeral home today from 7-8:30 p.m.

Rosa Andrews
High Point - Mrs. Rosa Leonard Andrews, 90, of 424 Royal Oak Ave. died Nov. 29, 1999 in Graybrier Nursing and Retirement Center.
She was born March 8, 1909 in Davidson County to Robert Franklin and Cora Sowers Leonard. She had been a resident of High Point most of her life and a hosiery mill employee. Mrs. Andrews was a member of Hilliard Memorial Baptist Church. She was married to Clyde D. Andrews who died in 1965.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Phyllis A. Weaver and her husband, Henry, of 711 Marlboro St.; two sons, Don D. Andrews Sr. and his wife, Ruth, of 209 Williford Ct., and Wayne D. Andrews of 424 Royal Oak Ave.; six grandchildren, Scott Weaver, Mike Weaver, Don Andrews, Jr., Mark Andrews, Dawn Murphy and Thad Andrews; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral will be 3:00 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Services by the Rev. Carroll M. Upton. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Arturo Castro
Greensboro - Arturo Ortega Castro, 30, of 4833 Old Randleman Road, died Nov. 26, 1999, in High Point.
Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sechrest Funeral Home, E. Lexington Avenue. High Point.

George Hancock
Thomasville - George Venson Hancock, 80, a resident of 899 Lower Lake Road died Nov. 29, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at J. C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Claude Garrett Sr. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

T.L. Hedrick Jr.
Lexington - Thurman Lee “T.L.” Hedrick Jr., 74, of 453 Bethany Road died at 9:15 p.m. Nov. 28, 1999, at Lexington Memorial Hospital after a serious illness of 2 weeks.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bethany United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.

Gladys Jarratt
Linwood - Ms. Gladys Fitzgerald Jarratt, 96, died Nov. 28, 1999.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Center Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Piedmont Funeral Home, Lexington, is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence Kelly Jr.
High Point - Lawrence A. “Bill” Kelly Jr., 80, former resident of Shadybrook Drive, died Nov. 29, 1999, at Beverly Healthcare Starmount following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Moore County on Nov. 29, 1919, a son of Lawrence Kelly Sr. and Maggie Cole Kelly. He was formerly employed as an operations manger at Colonial Motor Freight. He helped his son, Terry, with the establishment of Greensboro Mulch Inc. and served as the company’s office manager from 1983 until 1992. He was a dedicated leader of Boy Scout Troop #1. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Saunders Kelly.
Surviving are two sons, Terry Kelly and his wife, Joy, of Reidsville and Mike Kelly and his wife, Sylvia, of Oak Ridge; a daughter, Barbara Henley and her husband, Bill, of Loomis, Calif.; a brother, Vernon Kelly of Carthage; and four grandchildren, Chris Kelly, Andy Kelly, Olivia Henley and David Henley.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. John Jolly. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home.
