Thomasville - Mrs. Claudene “Dee” Reavis Holt, 69, of 130 Ford St. died Dec. 20, 1999, at Community General Hospital.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Tammara Jones
Lexington - Mrs. Tammara “Tammie” Frady Jones, 36, died Dec. 19, 1999, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after two weeks of serious illness.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

K. McDaniel
Lexington - Mrs. Kimberly Dawn Lackey McDaniel of 12396 Calvin Sowers Road died at 11:45 p.m. Dec. 19, 1999, after an extended illness.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Beulah United Church of Christ. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel.

John McKenzie
Gainsville, GA - John Hall McKenzie, 80, of 3422 Timothy Lane, died Dec. 19, 1999, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center after an extended illness.
He was born in Macon County, and had lived in Gainesville for the past 19 years. He was retired from Southern Bell as a repair foreman. He served with the U.S. Army and was a member of the Liberty Bible Church.
Surviving are his wife, Ada Ruth Underwood McKenzie; a son, John Edward McKenzie of Lawrenceville, Ga.; a daughter, Betty Randolph of Hawkinsville, Ga.; a brother, William R. McKenzie of Montazuma, Ga.; a sister, Martha Tominson of Fort Valley, Ga.; and five grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. today at Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bill McKinzie. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Lanner McMahan
Trinity - Mrs. Lanner Mashburn McMahan, 84, of 4530 Peace Road went to be with Jesus Dec. 20, 1999.
She was born Oct. 28, 1915, in Fannin County, Ga., a daughter of Andrew Mashburn and Elizabeth Grant. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Doyle Dwight McMahan and a brother, Herschel Mashburn.
Surviving are four sons, Doyle Dwight McMahan Jr. of Trinity, Don K. McMahan of High Point, James T. McMahan of Asheboro and Ronald D. McMahan of Trinity; three daughters, Elizabeth Haynes of Asheboro, Delores Hicks of Columbia, S.C., and Geraldine Jordan of Asheboro; 27 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; and four sisters, Mildred Franks, Ruth Barnes, Ruby Warren and Pearnell Grayson.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale by the Rev. Tommy Harrold and the Rev. Jimmy Hinson. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Ronald McMahan, 4530 Peace Road.

Ida Pickens
Timonium, MD - Mrs. Ida Munyan Pickens, 95, widow of Rupert Tarpley Pickens Jr., died Dec. 19, 1999, of heart failure at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Towson, Md.
Born Ida Catherine Munyan, in Kellogsville, Ohio, June 4, 1904, she was the daughter of John William and Lucy Olive Downey Munyan. She moved to High Point, N.C., in 1910 with her parents and grandparents. A graduate of High Point High School (1921), she earned her baccalaureate degree in education at Duke University (1925) and a master’s degree in art education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (1960). She was a long-time teacher of art in the High Point public schools system until her retirement from Ferndale Junior High School in 1969, when she established residence with her son Robert Andrew Pickens and his wife Hilda Fisher Pickens of 2206 Forest Ridge Road, Timonium.
An avid bridge player, she was a member of several bridge clubs where she regularly participated in N.A.B.C. masters level bridge and attained more than 600 master points. Among her other principal interests were world travel, gardening and poetry. She extended her artistic talents in various new media and created thematic objects as gifts for her many local friends. She was a member of the John Street chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Fort Garrison chapter of the Colonial Dames.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, William Downey Munyan and John Irving Munyan, both of whom spent their childhood in High Point.
Surviving are two sons, Robert Andrew Pickens Sr. (Hilda Fisher Pickens), of Timonium, and Rupert Tarpley Pickens III (Nancy Clinard Pickens), of Lexington, Ky; two brothers, Theron Wesley Davidson and Irvington Reid Davidson, both of Lexington Park, Md.; four grandchildren, Robert Andrew Pickens Jr. of New Market, Md.; Chrisley Virginia Pickens, Durham, N.C.; John Armfield Pickens of Lexington, Ky.; and Edward Munyan Pickens of Bynum, N.C.; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-8 tonight at Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Towson, Md., followed by a funeral service at 8 p.m.. Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Oakwood Memorial Park, High Point, by the Rev. Richard Crowder.

Joseph Shackelford
High Point - Joseph Bryan Shackelford, formerly of 1560 Skeet Club Road, died Dec. 19, 1999, at Piedmont Christian Home where he had been a patient for 18 months.
He was born Aug. 5, 1901, in Surry County, a son of J.B. Shackelford and Mary Jones. He came to High Point in 1918. He was owner of Shackelford's Men’s Wear in High Point for more than 50 years. He spent most of his life serving families in need and his church. He had great love for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed telling them stories of his experiences in life.
He was a member of Christ Community Church, where he served as a deacon and elder, also served on the board for many years. He also was a member of Numa F. Reid Lodge #344 A.F. & A.M., he was a Shriner, a member of the Scottish Rite and the Oasis Temple in Charlotte and a lifetime member of the High Point Lions Club where he served as chaplain. He was presented with a diamond pin from the Shriners for his 50-year membership in 1997.
On Jan. 27, 1923, he married Verna Holbrook, who preceded him in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Arlene Wilson of Indianapolis and Betty Lewis and husband, Keith in Lenior; three sons, Charles Shackelford and wife, Jackie, of High Point, Philip and his wife, Vicki, of High Point, and Robert and his wife, Gloria, of Metairie La.; a brother, Walter Shackelford of Randleman; a half-sister, Trudy Richardson of Winston-Salem; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Cumby Funeral Home Chapel on Eastchester Drive. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.

Troy Shelton
High Point - Troy Thomas Shelton, 83, of 113 E. Peachtree Drive died Dec. 20, 1999, at Sunbridge of the Triad Nursing Center.
He was born May 28, 1916, in Stokes County, a son of Troy Franklin and Saloan Shelton. On Dec. 24, 1941, he married Martha Kathleen Gordon of Pinnacle, who survives of the residence. He was a lifelong resident of Guilford County and a member of Oakview United Methodist Church. He was employed by Lyles Chevrolet for 17 years and retired from Kimble Auto Glass. He was a member of Numa F. Reid Lodge #344 and, also, a member of Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Greensboro. He was a World War II Army veteran.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Shelton and her husband, David Lee Williams, of Anaheim, Calif.; a grandson, Jeffrey Myers Caldwell and his wife, Andrea Tano, of High Point; three sisters, Avis Bowles of Winston-Salem, Earline Dantzler of Georgia, and Dura Carter of Wilmington; two brothers, Cecil Shelton of Walnut Cove, and Chester Shelton of Mt. Airy.
Masonic graveside services and burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. E.A. Reavis Jr. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point and other times at the residence.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 1004 N. Main St., High Point, N.C. 27262 or to Oakview United Methodist Church Building Fund, 321 Oakview Road, High Point, N.C. 27265.

Charles Washburn
Lewiston, Idaho - Charles D. Washburn, 74, died Dec. 17, 1999, at St. Joseph Hospital.
He was born July 18, 1925, a son of Charles Washburn and Nellie Johnson in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. He lived most of his life in Bonners Ferry. The last few years, he lived in Lewiston. He retired in 1988 from Bonners Ferry Lumber Co. He was a World War II Marine veteran, he served two years in the South Pacific and was a corpsman. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Bonners Ferry Post. He received his education at Naple’s High school.
Surviving are a son, Michael D. Washburn and his wife, Virginia, of Trinity, N.C.; a granddaughter, Michala Washburn of Trinity; and five sisters, Betty Kelson of Moscow, Idaho, Lura Dinning and Peggy Smith, both of Bonners Ferry, Lorraine Cassairt of Naples, Idaho, and Harriet Cameron of Helena, Mont.
Funeral will be noon today at Free Methodist Church by the Rev. Lowell Carlson.
Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Woods
Thomasville - Shirley Charles Woods, 45, died at 4:10 p.m. Dec. 19, 1999, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, after a terminal illness.
She was a beloved wife, mother, a devoted sister, a caring and loving friend to all who knew her. She was born Jan. 12, 1954, in Thomasville, a daughter of Cleveland and Margie Charles. She was an active member of Christian Cathedral Church. She was employed by the Davidson County Schools System. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edger Woods.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William (Melinda) Woods Staley of Thomasville; two brothers, Johnny Charles of Salisbury and Jimmy Charles of Lexington; three sisters, Joyce C. Lanier of Trinity, Elsie Conwell of Roanoke Rapids, and Laura Causey of Littleton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Christian Cathedral by the Rev. N.E. Highfill. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home.

Ralph Hester
Asheboro - Ralph Hester, 68, of Emerald Rock Road died 4:25 p.m. Dec. 20, 1999, at his home after an illness of nine months.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will be in Arrington Heights Freewill Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Agnes Jones
Greensboro - Mrs. Agnes Greer Jones, 76, of Britthaven of Greensboro, died Dec. 21, 1999, following a lengthy illness.
She was born in Hendersonville Aug. 24, 1923, a daughter of Charles and Effie Jackson Greer. She was formerly employed at Maryfield Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide. She was a member of Rocky Knoll Baptist Church. She was a caring person, who opened her home to many foster children whom she truly loved. Her many friends and family will miss her, but celebrate her life on Earth and her new life in heaven. On Aug. 9, 1941, she married Albert Leslie Jones, who preceded her in death in 1976.
Surviving are two sons, James Jones and his wife, Susan, of High Point and Anthony Jones and his wife, Robin, of Julian; a sister, June Chance and her husband, Larry, of Albemarle; and two grandchildren, Ashley and Caroline Jones of High Point.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery by the Rev. Ralph Webb. Visitation will be 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thursday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home.

Susie Kearns
Denton - Mrs. Susie Sexton “Aunt Susie” Kearns, 97, of Jones St. died Dec. 21, 1999, at Mountain Vista Health Park.
She was born Jan. 7, 1902, in Davidson County, a daughter of John Thomas Sexton and Nancy Catherine Skeen. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church and was instrumental in planning the sanctuary, which was completed in 1958. She married Coy L. Kearns, who preceded her in death in 1955. She and her husband owned and operated Biltwell Chair and Furniture Co. in Denton. She was a charter member and life member of Denton chapter #216 Order of the Eastern Star. She was a charter member of Denton Woman’s Club and helped start the Christmas Community Love Feast, which just observed its 49th service. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hayden Sexton and Mose Sexton; and two sisters, Dallas Sexton and Kate Sexton Russell.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Rose S. DeLapp of Durham and Jewel S. Cranford of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Central United Methodist Church by the Rev. Joe Collins, the Rev. Leon Stubbs and Dr. Arnold B. Lovell. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Briggs Funeral Home and at the residence of a her nephew and niece, Stewart and Swannee Sexton, N. Main Street.
Memorials may be directed to Central United Methodist Church Beautification Fund, P.O. Box 128, Denton, N.C. 27239.
