Reba Rhinehardt
High Point - Mrs. Reba Glover Gill Rhinehardt, 99, died Dec. 26, 1999, at Evergreens Nursing Home where she lived for three years and three months.
She was born in Lattimore, a daughter of Julius Logan and Mary Jane Glover, who preceded her in death. She was a faithful member of Memorial United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Eastern Star, White Rose #57. She retired from William Penn High School as the food service supervisor. She also was preceded in death by a son, Charles O. Gill; her husband, Preston E. Rhinehardt; two brothers and three sisters.
Surviving relatives to treasure her memory are two sisters, Geneva F. Hunt of Washington, D.C., and Mary Lee Finney of King’s Mountain; one granddaughter, Gloria Brooks of Winslow Court.; one goddaughter, Maxine Burgess of Conover; a niece and caregiver, Juanita Glover Jones of High Point; two aunts and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Memorial United Methodist Church by Dr. J.H. Graves. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the funeral service and other times at the residence of Juanita Glover Jones, 502 Arlington St.
Hoover Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lelia Sowers
Lexington - Garfield Finley Robbins, 88, formerly of 6966 Muddy Creek Road died Dec. 26, 1999, at Piedmont Christian Home. He was in declining health for several years.
He was born Aug. 20, 1911, in Randolph County, a son of Finley and Reta Ingram Robbins. He had been a resident of High Point and Archdale all his life. He retired from Griffin Upholstery Co. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church, the Men’s Bible Class, a former Sunday school teacher and a former member of the local board of administrative. Twice married, he was first married to Lucille Holder, who preceded him in death in 1977. On Nov. 17, 1978, he married Imogene Sumner Webster, who survives of 10805-B N. Main St., Archdale.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Odell (Sylvia) Link of Mebane and Mrs. Joe (Kathy) Stallings of 6982 Muddy Creek Road; two sons, Ronald G. Robbins and his wife, Margaret, of 6966 Muddy Creek Road, Archdale and C. Leon Robbins and his wife, Patsy, of Archdale; two stepsons, Wayne Webster of Chesapeake and Dale Webster of Archdale; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. James L. Denny, the Rev. James Smith, and the Rev. Ken Day. Burial will be in Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight and other times at the home of Mrs. Kathy Stallings.
Pallbearers will be John and Nolan Link, Tim and Dennis Robbins, Jason Shrum and Fred Wilson, all grandsons.
Memorials may be directed to First Wesleyan Church, 1915 N. Centennial St., High Point, N.C. 27262.

Garfield Robbins
High Point - Mrs. Lelia C. Sowers of N.C. 150 North died at 10:50 p.m. Dec. 27, 1999, at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Good Hope United Methodist Church by the Rev. Arthur Holland. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel.

W. Underwood
Bakersville - W. Nelson Underwood, 76, of Bakersville, died Dec. 28, 1999, at James H. Quillen V.A.M.C. Mountain Home, Tennessee, after a brief illness.
He was a native of Louisburg, a son of Robert Earl and Rosa Mae Liles Underwood, who preceded him in death. He was a retiree of Blue Bell Industries, Greensboro, where he served as supervisor of central shop in the United States and Europe. He served with the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II in Europe. He was a longtime resident of High Point and was a member of the Lions Club, serving as tail twister for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Barnett Underwood; five sons, Nelson Underwood Jr. of Thomasville, Ken Underwood of Bristol, Tenn., Thomas DuVall of High Point, Greg Cooper of Bakersville and Chris Cooper of Taylorsville; a sister, Isabelle Underwood; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home by the Rev. Marvin Miller. Burial will be in Bakersville Memorial Cemetery, where graveside rites will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be at the funeral home two hours prior to the funeral.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.

James Atkins Sr.
Colfax - James Erie Atkins Sr. of 9615 U.S. 421 East, died Dec. 30, 1999, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 12, 1918, in Guilford County, a son of Will and Minnie Williard Atkins. He was a lifelong farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mrs. Vernon Atchison Atkins; a son, Cecil W. “Bill” Atkins; a brother, Kemp Atkins; and a sister, Mildred Clinard.
Surviving are two daughters, Linda Pearman of Colfax, and Libby Wilson and her husband, Sam of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two sons, James Erie Atkins Jr. and his wife, Gloria, of Greensboro and Willard Atkins and his wife, Linda, of Oak Ridge; three sisters, Hilda Clinard of High Point, Charlotte Dillion of Greensboro and Katie Lee Wilson of Washington, N.C.; a brother, Hampton Atkins of Colfax; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Hayworth-Miller Cain Chapel, Kernersville, by the Rev. Beauford R. Smith. Burial will be in Friendship United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, N.C. 27405.

J. Barber
Bennettsville, S.C. - Jerry Bartow Barber, 91, died Dec. 28, 1999.
He was born in McColl, a son of Jerry and Sally Gilmore Barber, who preceded him in death. He was employed with High Point Furniture Manufacturing Co. for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Beatrice Watson Barber of Bennettsville; a son, James Watson of Bennettsville; two daughters, Lee Varner of High Point, N.C. and Faye Erwin of Bennettsville; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Rogers Funeral Home, McColl. Burial will be in Rogers Cemetery.

Kemp Burleson
High Point - Kemp McRae Burleson, 37, of 709 Dorado Circle, died Dec. 29, 1999, at John Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, Md.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Sechrest Funeral Service, High Point.

Tommy Everhart
Lexington - Tommy Lee Everhart, 44, died Dec. 28, 1999.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home. Visitation will be 3-4 p.m. at the funeral home.

James Green
High Point - James “Jack” Green Sr., 78, of Northshore Court, died Dec. 29, 1999, in Grand Strand Regional Hospital, Mytlre Beach, S. C.
He was born Feb. 26, 1921, in High Point, a son of E.L. and Pearl Griffith Green. He attended High Point College. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Glider Program and later trained on Fighter Planes. After the war, he was active in many areas; including a steward of Main Street Methodist Church, M.E. South and was president of High Point Junior Chamber of Commerce (now Jaycees). He was president of Idol-Green Realtors and was past president of the High Point Board of Realtors. He was a member of the Piedmont Masonic Lodge, Elks Club and was an avid hunter. On Feb. 14, 1942, he married the former Margaret Evelyn Harris, who preceded him in death Aug. 10, 1995.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Charlene Green Jr., of High Point; a sister and her husband, Betty Jo and David G. Willett of High Point; two brothers and their wives, Robert L. and Evelyn M. Green of Jamestown and Bill J. and Judy Green of High Point; and six grandchildren, Jay, Jordan, Cameron, Bryan, Christopher and Matthew.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Sechrest Funeral Home Chapel, High Point, by the Rev. Lloyd G. Hunsucker. Inurnment in Oakwood Memorial Park Mausoleum will be private.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.

H. Johnston
Thomasville - Mrs. Henrietta Johnston, 85, of 330 Ashbury Drive died Dec. 29, 1999.
No service is planned. Visitation will be at the residence.
J.C. Green & Sons is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Jones
Thomasville - Mrs. Ruth Lewis Jones, 86, of 48-D Cedar Lodge Road died Dec. 29, 1999, at Community General Hospital.
She was born July 23, 1913, in Guilford County, a daughter of George D. Bundy and Lidy Cagle. She had been a resident of Thomasville since 1980, coming from Hampton, Va. She was a homemaker and a member of Oak Hill Friends Church in High Point.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, William “Buck” Jones of the residence; a son, Clifford Jones and his wife, Gayle of High Point; three sisters, Mrs. Ruby Howard of Trinity, Mrs. Helen Freedle of Archdale and Mrs. Peggy Corum of High Point; a brother, George Bundy of High Point; and four grandchildren, Tara Elizabeth Jones, Cameron Jones, Catharine Curtis and Richard Carper; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Carper, Hunter Curtis, Dimitri Curtis and Lauren Cameryn Jones.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Friends Church, High Point by Joseph Neal. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight and other times at the residence of Mrs. Ruby Howard, 4524 Irwin Drive, Trinity. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Memorials may be directed to Oak Hill Friends Church, 2001 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

Darrell Long
High Point - Darrell Eugene Long, 83, formerly of Jamestown, died Dec. 29, 1999, at Triad Manor.
He was born Aug. 14, 1916, in High Point, a son of Walter Eugene and Lula King Long. He was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army. He worked for E.E. Younts Construction as a carpenter. He was a member of Oakdale United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two children, Ms. Diana Long of Deltona, Fla., and Darrell E. “Gene” Long Jr. and his wife, Candice, of Richmond, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Lois Shore of Kernersville; a brother, Robert Long of Sacramento, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Ray Jester Jr., LeAnn Hicks, Robin Bailey, Angela Johnson, Michael Long, Stephanie Hall, Shelia Cox and Kevin Long; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. today in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Melvin B. Anderson. Visitation will be 1:30-2:30 p.m. today at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point.

E. Nicols
Brownville, Maine - Mrs. Ethyl E. Nicols, 93, died Dec. 30, 1999, at Dexter Health Care Facility.
She was born Aug. 22, 1906, in Brownville, a daughter of Bert and Harriet Harriman Perkins. She was a member of the Junior Welfare Club in Brownville, the Brownville Community Church and the Church Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glyn O.M. Nicols; a son, Bert and a daughter, Glenys Worster.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy and her husband, James Tinnell of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and Lorraine and her husband, Bud Hazelip of Greensboro; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be in the spring at Brownville Village Cemetery.
Lary Funeral Home, Milo, Maine, is in charge of arrangements.

L. Upton Sr.
Winston-Salem - Lester Allan Upton Sr., 67, of 166 Upton Road died Dec. 29, 1999, at his residence in Wallburg.
He was born Feb. 26, 1932, in Guilford County, a son of Walter G. and Francis Lottie Finch Upton. He retired from North State Telephone Co. in 1995, after 45 years of service. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers Club and First fellowship Baptist Church. On May 2, 1973, he married the former Jeanette Reece, who survives of the residence.
Surviving are four sons, Lester Allan Upton Jr., Ernest Walter Upton and his wife, Carol, of Archdale, Reece Ray Upton and his wife, Tonia, of Thomasville and Russell Jay Upton of the residence; two sisters, Juanita Boyles and her husband, Carlton, of Trinity and Sara Stilley and her husband, James, of Archdale; and three granddaughters, Cindy Earnhardt Upton, Paige Upton and Cheryl Upton.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sechrest Chapel, Archdale, by the Rev. Mike Lee and Chaplain C. Aubrey McLellan. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the American Diabetes Association, 2420 Lake Brandt Place, Greensboro, N.C. or First Fellowship Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 219, Wallburg, N.C. 27373.

Myrle Walker
Asheboro - Mrs. Myrle Wynell Lax Walker, 73, died Dec. 29, 1999.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Back Creek Friends Meeting.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Ridge Funeral Home.

Bobbie Wray
Thomasville - Mrs. Bobbie Everhart Wray, 68, of 331 Cedarland Drive died Dec. 30, 1999, at her residence.
She was born May 24, 1931, in Thomasville, a daughter of Willie L. Everhart and Maude Perdue. She was a lifelong resident of this area and was retired from E. Lawson Brown Middle School, where she worked as a secretary. She was a member of Fairgrove United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Carl D. Wray of the residence; five children, Joe Wray Miller of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mrs. Toni Wray Jones and her husband, Mike, of Jamestown, Tim Wray and his wife, Sheila, of Thomasville, Mrs. Penny Wray Trotter and her husband, Ricky, of Thomasville and Mrs. Pam Wray Sink and her husband, Steve, of Thomasville; six grandchildren, Alex Ball, Nicole Goins, Ben Goins, Regan Sink, Tiffany Jones and Michelle Jones.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairgrove United Methodist Church by the Rev. David L. White. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight and other times at the residence. The body will be at the funeral home until an hour before the service.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Davidson County Inc., P.O. Box 1941, Lexington, N.C. 27293-1941.

Pearline Yountz
Lexington - Mrs. Pearline Younts Yountz, 70, of Reedy Creek Road died at 12:25 p.m. Dec. 30, 1999.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Arrington Heights Freewill Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home.
