Thomasville - Mrs. Janice Vera Rogers, 76, of 706 Dogwood Road died January 11, 2000, at her residence.
She was born June 13, 1923, in Horry County, S.C., a daughter of Allen and Mary Frances Lewis Gerald. She was a resident of Thomasville for 23 years. She retired from Plant D of Thomasville Furniture Industries. She was married to Woodrow Rogers, who preceded her in death in 1977. She also was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers.
Surviving are three daughters, Frances Rich and her husband, Roland, of Mullins, S.C., Joan Beck and her husband, Arvil, of Archdale and Barbara Hinshaw of Thomasville; a brother, Franklin Gerald and his wife, Ellen, of Mullins; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale. Burial will be in Floral Garden park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Bob Swaim
Asheboro - Paul Robert “Bob” Swaim, 80, died Jan. 10, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Ridge Funeral Home.

Geneva Wall
Archdale - Mrs. Geneva Goodwin Wall, 90, of Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Trinity, died Jan. 11, 2000, at the center.
She was born Jan. 24, 1909, in Guilford County, a daughter of Walter and Annie Isom Goodwin. She was a retired employee of Burlington Industries and was a member of Trinity Memorial United Methodist church. On Feb. 13, 1926, she Married Cicero Guthrie Wall, who preceded her in death June 26, 1950.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Doris Andrews and her husband, Lee, of Archdale; a son, James A. Wall and his wife, Joann, of Jamestown; a sister, Mrs. Wilma Fields of Trinity; four brothers, Sherman Reddeck and Leon Reddeck, both of Archdale, Milton Reddeck of Trinity and Richard Reddeck of Thomasville; four grandchildren, Dennis Wall, Tanya Wall, Lisa Jones and Herb Andrews; and five great-grandchildren, James Wall, Travis Wall, Andrew Jones, John Andrews and Hollis Andrews.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Sechrest Chapel, Archdale, by the Rev. Janice Combs and the Rev. Scott Wagoner. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Trinity Memorial United Methodist Church, 7140 N.C. 62, Trinity, N.C. 27370.

Randleman - William Alex “Bill” Wooten, 60, died Jan. 10, 2000, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Thursday in Randolph Memorial Park. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Pugh Funeral Home.

Sarah Yokley
Winston-Salem - Sarah Grace Yokley, infant daughter of Christopher Carl and Karen Elaine Castleberry Yokley died Jan. 10, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Surviving in addition to her parents are a sister, Kristen Yokley of Thomasville; two brothers, Tyler and Alex Yokley, both of Thomasville; maternal grandparents, Janice Garst and Steve Castleberry, both of California; paternal grandparents, Gary and Sandra Yokley of High Point; and three uncles, Gary and Brian Yokley, both of High Point, and Steve Castleberry of California.
Graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

Lexington - Mrs. Martha Delores Padgett Baker, 57, died at 6:59 Jan. 12, 2000, in High Point Regional Hospital after a critical illness of four days.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Lexington - Forrest Ingram Carter, 78, of Siouan Drive, died Jan. 12, 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Jersey Baptist Church. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.

Asheboro - Colon Henry “Code” Davidson, 77, died Jan. 11, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Walter Gaines
High Point - Walter Gaines, 83, formerly of Mt. Gilead, died Jan. 10, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday at Mt. Grove A.M.E. Zion Church, Mt. Gilead. Visitation will be 7-8 tonight at Harris Funeral Home, Mt. Gilead.

Ruth Hancock
Jamestown - Mrs. Ruth Clapp Hancock, 87, of Wesley Long Nursing Center formerly of 800 W. Broad St. went home to be with her Lord on Jan. 11, 2000.
She was born June 11, 1912, in Marion, a daughter of Daniel and Dora Tomlinson Clapp. She was a resident of High Point most of her life and was employed by Diamond Hosiery Mill, Guilford Hosiery Mill, Grace Flower Shop and the Sweet Shoppe in High Point. She was a member of English Road Baptist Church and the Dorcas Sunday School Class. She also was a member of the Good Deed Club and the Friendly Club at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. She was married to William Ashe Hancock, who preceded her in death in 1993. She and her husband were a devoted couple for 64 years.
She was a beloved mother to Mrs. Betty Ferguson and her husband, Charles, and to Mrs. Vickie Gold and her husband, Fred, all of High Point; and a beloved grandmother to Mrs. Becky Tuttle and her husband, Donald, Mrs. Bonnie Craig and her husband, Kevin, and Michael Gold, all of High Point.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at English Road Baptist Church by Dr. James A. Summery. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.

High Point - Richard Malone Sneed of 521-A Cross St. died Jan. 9, 2000.

Sarah Yokley
Winston-Salem - Sarah Grace Yokley, infant daughter of Christopher Carl and Karen Elaine Castleberry Yokley died Jan. 10, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

Cecil Atkinson
High Point - Cecil Lamar Atkinson, 78, formerly of 1270 Burton Ave., died at 1:55 p.m. Jan. 13, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare of Thomasville. He was in declining health for several years.
He was born Jan. 22, 1921, in Red Springs. He had been a resident of High Point most of his life. He was retired from Furniture City Glass and Mirror Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II. He was a member of Trindale Pentecostal Holiness Church. On Oct. 20, 1973, he married Josephine Scott, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Don (Marlene) Farlow of 315 Farlow Lane, Mrs. Rick (Sue) Truitt of 6532 Weant Road, Archdale, Ms. Debbie Scott of the residence, Mrs. Ann Grayson and Mrs. Linda Hazelwood, both of High Point; three sons, Frankie Scott and his wife, Teena, of 6011 Checker Road, Randy Scott and his wife, Jeanie, of Thomasville, and Steve Atkinson and his wife, Ellen, of Archdale; a sister, Mrs. Paul (Louise) Barker of Asheboro; 23 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Trindale Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Ottis A. Collins, the Rev. Earl Hanks and the Rev. Ronald D. Carpenter. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Visitation will be 1 p.m. Saturday, prior to the service, at the church and other times at the residence of Frankie and Teena Scott, 6011 Checker Road.

Helen Dennis
High Point - Mrs. Helen Brewer Dennis, 70, died Jan. 12, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born June 6, 1929, in Guilford County, a daughter of Dewey and Ruth Thompson Towery, who preceded her in death. She was a lifelong resident of High Point and a homemaker. She was a member of Green Street Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Vikki Brewer Patterson of Kernersville and Penny Brewer Rogers of South Boston, Va.; five sons, Steve Brewer of Trinity, Rick Brewer of High Point, Jeff Brewer of Archdale, Mark Brewer of Oak Ridge and Kevin Brewer of High Point; a sister, Susie Monroe of Trinity; a brother, James Towery of Charleston, S.C.; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Larry Doyle and the Rev. Randy Quate. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery.

Ruth Huyler
High Point - Mrs. Ruth Sexton Huyler, 86, of 701 S. Elm St., died Jan. 13, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital following several years of declining health.
She was born May 12, 1913, in Sparta, a daughter of William M. and Kate Halloway Sexton. She was a resident of High Point since 1945. She was retired from Pickett Cotton Mill. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class. She married Mack Huyler, who preceded her in death in 1976.
Surviving are a stepdaughter, Mrs. Roy (Betty) Albea of Decatur, Ga.; three sisters, Mrs. Charlotte Kerr and Mrs. Ora Lee Leonard, both of 701 S. Elm St., and Mrs. Margaret Presnell of Richmond, Va.; one stepsister, Mrs. Juanita Carter of 1204 Cloverdale Drive; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, by the Rev. Bynum D. Orr. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Annie Johnson
High Point - Mrs. Annie Rebecca (Becky) Therrell Johnson, 60, of E. Lexington Avenue died Jan. 11, 2000, at her residence.
She was born in Montgomery County May 24, 1939, a daughter of Lewis Milton and Queen Lucas Therrell. She was a resident of High Point most of her life and was owner and operator of several businesses before retiring due to ill health. She was a loving and generous person, who placed the needs of others before her own.
Surviving are her husband, Vestal Powell Johnson of the residence; a son, Winfred Lee Harvell of the residence; three sisters, Ella Therrell Beitzel of High Point, Sarah Louise Helton of Valdese and Edna Sessions of Thomasville; two half-sisters, Winnie Marie Scarborough of Troy and Pearline Hurst of Chesterfield, S.C.; two brothers, Joseph William Therrell of the residence and John Milton Therrell of Clarksville, Tenn.; a step-granddaughter, Melissa Kay Brown of Asheboro; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service will be 1 p.m. today in Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Thomas M. Petty. Visitation will be 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. today at Sechrest Funeral Service.

Ruth Leonard
Thomasville - Mrs. Ruth Westmoreland Tysinger Leonard, 78, died Jan. 11, 2000, at Britthaven of Davidson.
She was born May 8, 1921, in Thomasville, a daughter of Marvin and Lou Morris Westmoreland, who preceded her in death. She was a long time employee of Plant G of Thomasville Furniture and AGI Industries. She was a member of Silver Valley Baptist Church. On May 25, 1940, she married Henry Tysinger, who preceded her in death March 28, 1963. In 1968 she married N.H. Leonard, who also preceded her in death July 27, 1992.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Lydia) Blocker of Fountain Inn, S.C.; two sons, CMSgt. (USAF Retired) Troy W. Tysinger and his wife, Gail Pierce, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Roy A. Tysinger and his wife, Julia Caudle, of Thomasville; a sister, Mrs. Muriel Fox of Lake City, Fla.; six grandchildren, Barbara R. Tysinger of Chapel Hill, Sherry Tysinger of Apex, Beverly Gebhardt of Montgomery, Ala., Deborah Lusk of Central, S.C., Elizabeth Rumbough of Irmo, S.C., and Charles Adkins of Irmo; five great-grandchildren; and numerous stepchildren, stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Carolina Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Stuart White. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the residence of her son, Roy A. Tysinger.

Astor Lilly
High Point - Astor Lee Lilly, 72, of 610 E. Washington Drive, died Jan. 13, 2000, at SunBridge of the Triad, where he had been a resident two days. He had been in declining health for one year.

Jerome McBee
Greensboro - Jerome Bernard McBee, 41, died Jan. 6, 2000.
He was born in High Point, a son of Berry and Lula Foster McBee. He was a special student at Kendall Center and was employed in the workshop of Life Span. He earned and received many trophies, plaques and special recognition for excelling in spite of his disabilities. He was preceded in death by his mother Aug. 18, 1989, and a nephew, Willie Lee Cathey Jr.
Surviving are his father of High Point; his foster mother, Mrs. Veralene S. Billins and family of Greensboro; seven sisters, Mrs. Josephine Sturdivant and Ms. Linda K. McBee, both of Philadelphia, Mrs. Sarah “Poochie” Broadie and her husband, Jerry Lee, of Thomasville, Ms. Ora “Penny” Mae McBee of Winston-Salem, Mrs. Patricia Ann Christian, Mrs. Jacqueline “Jackie” Brown and her husband, Calvin, and Ms. Debra Ann McBee, all of High Point; three brothers, Jerry Lewis McBee of Columbia, S.C., Donald Ray Cathey and Willis Lee Cathey Sr., both of High Point; an aunt, Mrs. Claudia White of Philadelphia; a uncle, Jerry McBee of Tarboro; a special friend, Mrs. Myrtle Green of High Point; a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Living Waters Baptist Church by the Rev. Adolph Thomas. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Saturday at Haizlip Funeral Chapel and other times at the residence of his father, 615-C Granby St.
