Don Blevins
Anderson, S.C. - Don. W. Blevins, 62, of 105 Cobblestone Court died Jan. 22, 2000, at Anderson Area Medical Center.
He was born March 21, 1937, in Sparta, N.C. to James Blevins and Ada Mae Cox Blevins. He was owner and operator of the Print Shop of Anderson, served in the U.S. Navy and was a Korean War veteran and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Mills Blevins of the home; two sons, Stephen Blevins and Scott Blevins, both of High Point;, N.C.; two step-sons, the Rev. Jacky Newton of Louisville, Ky. and Jimmy Newton of Anderson, S.C.; two brothers, Clay Blevins of Trinity, N.C. and Walter Blevins of High Point, N.C.; two sisters, Betty Sykes of Asheboro, N.C. and Lillie Glasco of Glade Valley, N.C.; a grandchild and six step-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Sparta, N.C. The Rev. Jacky Newton will officiate.

Edna Brown
High Point - Mrs. Edna Craven Brown, 79, of 119 Horneytown Road, died Jan. 20, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Sept. 3, 1920, in Davidson County, a daughter of John William and Treva Alice Davis Craven. She attended Jones Business College and was a certified nursing assistant. She was activities director at Maryfield Nursing Home and Liberty House Nursing Home in Thomasville. She was of the Baptist faith. On July 1, 1939, she married Harold Tillman Brown, who preceded her in death Nov. 13, 1982. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Roy G. (Carolyn) Patterson and two brothers.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Ricky (Aneita Lee) Andrews of High Point and Mrs. Lewis J. (Becky) Hudson of Kernersville; two sisters, Mrs. E.L. (Thelma) Hodgin of Greensboro and Mrs. Theldred (Betsy) Wood of High Point; a brother, Robert S. Craven and his wife, Betty, of Greensboro; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; eight step-grandchildren and a great-grandchild, Amber Kincaid, adopted by love.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. today at Sechrest Archdale Chapel by the Rev. Riley E. Puckett. Burial will be at a later date.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

Melva Cornelison
Archdale - Mrs. Melva Cole Cornelison, 87, of 423 Aldridge Road died Jan. 21, 2000, at 2:50 p.m. at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending at the Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

Rosetta Hill Crotts
Asheboro - Mrs. Rosetta Hill Crotts, 89, died Jan. 21, 2000. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8 Monday night at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel.

Treva Elliott
High Point - Mrs. Treva Beck Elliott, 94, a former resident of 509 Hedrick Ave., died Jan. 22, 2000, in Evergreens Nursing Home.
She was born March 12, 1905, in Davidson County, a daughter of Garfield and Betty Perry Beck. She had been a resident of High Point most of her life and was retired from Triangle Hosiery Mill. She was a member of Christ Community Church, Sunday School and was church organist for 40 years. On June 26, 1927, she was married to Walter Lee Elliott who preceded her in death on Feb. 1, 1997.
Surviving are a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Frances Elliott of 1409 Forrest St.; a brother, Byron Beck of Charleston, S.C.; a sister, Mrs. Jerolene Polke of Belmont Avenue; a grandchild and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Daynese Elliott; a son, Donald E. Elliott; a brother, John G. Beck; a sister, Nancy Sumner; and a granddaughter, Patti Hejl.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Jeffrey P. Palmer and the Rev. David Lowe. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 Monday night at the funeral home and other times at 1409 Forrest Ave.
Memorials may be directed to the building fund of Christ Community Church, P.O. Box 5487, High Point, N.C. 27262.

Archdale - Robert M. Fields, 71, of 209 Linda Drive died Jan. 22, 2000, at his home.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

Bessie Hassell
High Point - Mrs. Bessie Stroud Hassell, 92, of 300 W. Springfield Road, died Jan. 22, 2000, at GrayBrier Nursing & Retirement Center in Archdale.
She was born Sept. 3, 1907, in High Point, a daughter to Meredith K. and Sara Crater Stroud. A resident of High Point most of her life, she was a homemaker and a member of Woodman of the World. She was also a member of Springfield Friends Meeting. She was married on Nov. 27, 1926, to George Vernon Hassell who preceded her in death on Aug. 11, 1997. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Ellen Sexton.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Cayton of the residence and Mrs. Don (Sandra) Albertson of 4864 Meadowbrook Drive, Trinity; two sisters, Mrs. R.P. (Beatrice) Tucker of 1714-B N. Centennial St., High Point, and Mrs. Garland (Myra) Watson of 1714-C N. Centennial St., High Point; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale with the Rev. Terry G. Venable and the Rev. Wallace Sills. Burial will follow in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 Monday night at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Paulette Henderson
High Point - Mrs. Paulette “Sissy” Driggers Henderson, 48, died Jan. 22, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after several years of declining health.
She was born July 9, 1951, a daughter of James Lonnie and Evelyn Blanche Driggers. She was an activities director at area nursing homes and attended Allendale Baptist Church. She was a caring and loving wife and mother who enjoyed life. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Rhonda Gail Driggers.
Surviving are husband, Ed Henderson, whom she married May 21, 1971; two daughters, Jamie H. Blaustein and her husband, Jason, of Summerfield, and Holly Henderson of the home; and three brothers, Marvin Driggers of Thomasville, Perry Driggers of High Point and Roger Driggers of Wallburg.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bob Metters and the Rev. David Younger. Entombment will follow at Floral Garden Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 Monday night.

J.C. Hilton
High Point - J.C. Hilton Jr., 69, died Jan. 22, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after several years of declining health. He was born Feb. 26, 1930, in Davidson County, son of the late J.C. Hilton Sr. and Mary Belle Tysinger Hilton.
Surviving are wife, Mary Elizabeth “Lib” Winslow Hilton, whom he married Nov. 26, 1949; a son, Tom A. Hilton and his wife, Kim, of High Point; a daughter, Anne Hilton Doxey and her husband, Sandy, of Pinehurst; four sisters, Grace Luther, Peggy Bryant and Dot Wood, all of Thomasville, and Jewel Bayne of Atlanta and two grandchildren, Scott Doxey and Tyler Hilton.
A private funeral will be held Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the High Point Host Lion’s Club, c/o 1505 Bridges St., High Point, N.C. 27262. Arrangements by Cumby Family Funeral Service, Eastchester Drive.

Fred Ivey
High Point - Fred Ivey, 69, of 220 Grand Ave. died Jan. 21, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Moore County, the son of John and Arrie Branch Ivey. He was employed with Custom Industries, served in the U.S. Navy and attended Faith Baptist Church in Winston-Salem. He was first married to Juanita Jones who died in June 1969. On March 3, 1973, he married Linda Faye Wells and she preceded him in death on March 23, 1980.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Deborah Ann Thompson and husband, Stephen, of Lexington; two sons, Timothy Wayne Ivey and wife, Kitty, of Sophia, and Mark Anthony Ivey and wife, Emily, of the home; one brother, James Ivey of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Deborah Mounce, Sabrina Simmons, Justin Ivey and Chris Long; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Elim Baptist Church in Red Springs. Burial will be in Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will be placed at Sechrest Funeral Home on E. Lexington Avenue and the family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 Monday night.

Reid Marsh
High Point - G. Reid Marsh, 73, of 532 Gatewood Ave., died Jan. 22, 2000, in High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Feb. 20, 1926, in Phoenix, a son of Gilbert Reid and Vera King Marsh. A resident of High Point most of his life, he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was an insurance agent with New York Life Insurance Co. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines from December 1943 until August 1946. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church. On Dec. 15, 1945, he married Marie Darby who survives of the home.
Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, G. Reid Marsh III and wife, Kim, of High Point; and two grandsons, Kent Marsh of High Point and Jeff Marsh of Charlotte.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church by Dr. C. Garland Young. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will be placed at Sechrest Funeral Home on E. Lexington Avenue until placed in the church prior to the funeral. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 Monday night.
Memorials may be directed to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, 1225 Chestnut Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

William Thayer
St. Louis, Mo. - William “Bill” Robert Thayer, 70, died Jan. 19, 2000, at Gartner Nursing Home.
He was born a son of Dr. Robert Thayer and Dr. Edna Calderwood Thayer. He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints. He was employed as a social worker for North Carolina, until moving to St. Louis, where he was employed as a floor director for a local television station.
Surviving are two sisters, Betty Reynolds of St. Louis and Virginia Heap of Greensboro, N.C.; and eight nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hanes-Lineberry Sedgefield Chapel, 6000 High Point Road, Greensboro. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park.
Memorials may be directed to the Kidney Foundation of North Carolina, 5950 Fairview Road, Charlotte, N.C. 28210 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Jane Thornbury
High Point - Mrs. Jane Acord Thornbury, 78, died Jan. 21, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after several years of declining health.
She was born in June 29, 1921, in Logan, W.Va., a daughter of Fred and Eva Maynard Acord. She retired from Maryfield Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by husband, Charles Ray Thornbury; a brother, Willard Acord, and a sister, Myrtle Mounts.
Surviving are a sister, Faye Mounts of Jamestown; a nephew, Jim Hunt of Jamestown; a niece, Joyce Lester of Jamestown; a great-niece, Jane Hunt Price, and a great-nephew, Michael E. Hunt.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Monday at Floral Garden Park Cemetery by the Rev. Riley Puckett. Visitation will be at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home 1-2 p.m. Monday.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Frances Welborn
High Point - Mrs. Frances Louise Muse Welborn, 81, a resident of W. Lexington Ave., died Jan. 21, 2000, at her residence.
She was born April 17, 1918, in Moore County, a daughter of L.F. Muse and Chattie Maie Hannon Muse. She was a 1935 graduate of Carthage High School in Carthage and a 1939 graduate of High Point College, earning a B.S. degree in business administration with a teaching certificate. Her family resided in the residence in Carthage that is now owned by Tommy Prickett of Fry-Prickett Funeral Home. Her grandfather, Archie Hannon, built the residence in the late 1800s that remained in the family until sold to the funeral home in 1970. She was active in school and church activities while growing up. During college, she was active in Literary Society, Sigma Alpha Phi Sorority, Athletic Association, Commercial Club and served on the staff of the college yearbook, serving as editor her senior year, and was selected a senior superlative in the category of Best Sport. After college graduation, she was employed by Wachovia Bank and Trust Co., serving in various departments and as an assistant vice president. She was a member of First Baptist Church of High Point and enjoyed working with the children in the Beginner’s Department of the Sunday School for a number of years. She was a member of the YWCA and the Business and Professional Club. In 1979, she decided to take early retirement from the bank in order to have more leisure time to enjoy travel with her husband and to work with him on community projects. On Sept. 24, 1949, she was married to Edgar “Ned” S. Welborn Jr. who died in 1979. There are no immediate survivors.
A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Dr. William A. Slater officiating. The body will remain at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home in Thomasville until the service hour. Visitation will be at the funeral home 7-8:30 Monday night.
Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, 405 N. Main St., High Point, N.C. 27260 or to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 6729 Old Greensboro Road, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

Etta Brown
Trinity - Etta Eaton Wright Brown, 92, died Jan. 23, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Jan. 12, 1908, in Stokes County, daughter of Virgil Branson and Carrie Lee Boyles Eaton, who preceded her in death. She was a member of the High Point Seven Day Advent Church. She also was preceded in death by two husbands, Elijah M. Wright, who died in 1953, and Richard W. Brown, who died in 1982.
Surviving are daughters and son-in-laws, Mrs. Eulene Gallimore, Shirley Mae Hamer and her husband, Boyce, Shelby Jean Dunning and her husband, Robert, Julie Marie Norcott and her husband, W. Francis; a stepson, Julian Brown; brothers, Thurman Eaton and Herbert Eaton; sisters, Mrs. Arlene Westmoreland and Helen Locile Mickey; 13 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at High Point Seventh Day Advent Church by Elder Steven Gallimore. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Pinnacle Baptist Church Cemetery in Pinnacle. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Cumby Family Funeral Home in Archdale.

Brink Hunt
Denton - Brink T. Hunt, 79, died Jan. 24, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. at Lineberry United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at Briggs Funeral Home.

Weldon Idol
Kernersville - Weldon Lewis Idol, 73, of 2823 Highway 66 South, died Jan. 23, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Sept. 19, 1926, in Guilford County, a son of J. Clay and Clara Cheek Idol. He was a resident of Kernersville most of his life and was of the Baptist faith. He was a farmer and was awarded North Carolina’s most outstanding “Young Farmer” of the year in 1960, and was recognized nationally as a master breeder of modern game poultry by the Poultry Association. He was an outstanding baseball and basketball player in high school and later played professional baseball with the St. Louis Browns in 1947. On August 18, 1945, he married the former Peggy Wineharger, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Idol Weavil.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mike (Karen) Dull and Mrs. Sandra Idol Portaro, both of Kernersville; two sons, Dick Idol and his wife, Robin, of Bigfork, Mont. and W.C. Idol and his wife, Lori, of High Point; a brother, Junius Idol of Kernersville; five grandchildren, Alexandra “Alex”, Cody, Justin, Colt and Harrison.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Carol Williams-Gilbert, the Rev. Jim Noble and the Rev. Jack Rose. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-9 tonight at Cumby Family funeral Service, High Point.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of the Piedmont Inc., 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

Ellen Jones
Kernersville - Mrs. Ellen Swett Jones, 81, of 812 Birch Lane, Apt. 11-D, died Jan. 23, 2000, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
She was born April 8, 1918, in Greenwood, S.C., a daughter of William Nelson and Lora Rhinehart Swett. She was an active member of Main Street Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school. She retired from Spring Air Mattress Co. She was preceded in death by a cousin, L.C. Joines.
Surviving are four children, David H. Rouse and his wife, Hilda, of High Point, Mrs. Bud (Linda) Pickard of Holden Beach, Wayne M. Rouse and his wife, Carolyn, of Morganton and Jerry B. Rouse and his wife, Debbie, of Denver, Colo.; her mother, Mrs. Lora Rhinehart Swett of High Point; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point by the Rev. Michael Willard and Elder Norbert Kemp. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Main Street Baptist Church, 126 N. main St., Kernersville, N.C., or to the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, N.C.

Hettie McCollum
Kernersville - Mrs. Hettie Jane Westmoreland McCollum, 78, of 8414 Norcross Road, Colfax, died Jan. 24, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center after two weeks of illness.
She was born Dec. 20, 1921, in Guilford County, a daughter of Lindsay P. and Janette Westmoreland. She was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Welford McCollum, of the residence; a son, Preston McCollum and his wife, Teresa, of Colfax; four sisters, Opal Jordan of High Point, Neva Long, Annie Nuckles and Ruth Holt of Colfax; two brothers, Hubert Westmoreland of Burlington and Rubert Westmoreland of Colfax.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Smith Grove Baptist Church by the Rev. Charles Peters. Burial will be in Smith Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Hayworth- Miller Cain Funeral Home.
