Olen Hunsucker
Archdale - Olen Brice Hunsucker, 85, of 111 Lakeside Drive died Jan. 31, 2000, at his residence.
He was born March 19, 1914, in Cabarrus County, a son of James Whitson and Dove Shoupe Hunsucker. He was an employee of the city of High Point, retiring in 1985. He was of the Baptist faith. On Oct. 3, 1935, he married the former Mary Jane Mann, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Judy Kasey of Archdale and Mrs. Sherrill (Sissy) Kennedy of Thomasville; three sons, James Hunsucker and his wife, Peggy, of Sophia, Wayne ”Pete” Hunsucker and his wife, Rachel, of Archdale, and Rodney Hunsucker and his wife, Glenda, of Thomasville; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sechrest Funeral Home Chapel, Archdale, by the Rev. Ronnie McKinney. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Emily Jordan
Trinity - Mrs. Emily Agnes Ingram Jordan, 85, of GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center died Jan. 31, 2000, at the center.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale.

Lola Lohr
Thomasville - Mrs. Lola Virginia Lohr, 87, of 2954 Upper Lake Road died Jan. 30, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
She was born April 14, 1912, in Davidson County, a daughter of Henry and Bessie Curry Hedrick. She retired from Hill Hosiery Mill and was a member of Emanuel Reformed United Church of Christ. She was married to Leo Lohr, who preceded her in death. She also was preceded in death by a son, R.L. Lohr.
Surviving are two grandson, Brian Lohr and his wife, Kim, of Thomasville and Bradley Lohr of the residence; two great-grandchildren, John and Ashley Lohr; a sister, Mrs. Edna James of Thomasville; and a brother, Clyde Hedrick of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Emanuel Reformed United Church of Christ by the Rev. H. Warren Cassiday. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at 7-9 tonight J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home. The body will be at the funeral home until placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service.

Ollie Murphy
Thomasville - Mrs. Ollie Mae Green Murphy, 87, of 304 Reid St. died Jan. 30, 2000, at Britthaven of Davidson Nursing Home.
Funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Holly Hill Wesleyan Church. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home.

Addison Payne
High Point - Addison Lee Payne, 90, formerly of 1936 Chestnut Drive Extension, died at 11:40 p.m. Jan. 30, 2000, at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center.
He was born May 31, 1909, in Guilford County, a son of Alfred Martine “Tiny” and Nancy “Nan” Burton Payne. He was a retired farmer and had lived on the family farm since 1918. He was well known for his organically grown vegetables and watermelons. He was a member of Mechanicsville Primitive Baptist Church. On Nov. 12, 1936, he married Clara Thomas, who preceded him in death on Nov. 4, 1990. He also was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jane Payne in 1989; four sisters, Mrs. Eva P. Shoaf, Mrs. Delphia P. Hayworth, Mrs. Lelia P. Craven and Mrs. Annice P. Russell; two brothers Keiffer and Clarence Payne.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Betsy Payne Hudson and her husband, William L. “Billy” of 1704 Huntington Circle and Miss Carol Payne of Titusville, Fla.; a sister, Miss Ida G. Payne of GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center; and a brother, John Wesley Payne and his wife, Mary, of 1924 Chestnut Drive Extension.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. W. Joseph Neal, the Rev. Terry W. Kersey and Elder William Knight. Entombment will be in Floral Garden Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence of his daughter, 1704 Huntington Circle.
Memorials may be directed to Oak Hill Friends Meeting, 2001 Westchester Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262 or to the donor’s choice.
The family wishes to thank the staff on the east wing at GrayBrier Nursing and Retirement Center for the loving concern and care that they gave to our father and to all of us.

Edna Shelley
High Point - Mrs. Edna Gillis Shelley, 78, of 312 E. Farriss Avenue died Jan. 31, 2000, at Wesleyan Arms Nursing Home.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Sechrest Funeral Home, High Point.

Eugene Shipwash
Archdale - Eugene Edmond “Pete” Shipwash Sr., 66, of 5959 Boulder Drive died Jan. 30, 2000, at his residence
He was born May 11, 1933, in Guilford County, a son of Ralph Cletus and Mary Hodges Shipwash. He was employed with Select Furniture Co. and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Pauline Peele Shipwash of the residence; six sons, Eugene E. Shipwash Jr. and his wife, Amber Brewer, of High Point, Jesse L. Shipwash and his wife, Patricia Bowers, and Thomas Ray Shipwash, all of Archdale, Gary Wayne Shipwash and his wife, Teresa T., of Thomasville, Donald Keith Shipwash of Winston-Salem and James Monroe Shipwash of Trinity; a sister, Virginia “Jenny” Shipwash of High Point; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Home, Archdale, by the Rev. Hoyt Mason. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.

Donald Smith
Thomasville - Donald Reid Smith, 72, of 408 Carter Drive, died Jan. 30, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Oct. 1, 1927, in Davidson County a son of John Thomas and Tura Summey Smith. He lived most of his life in the Thomasville area. He retired from Dixie Bedding in Greensboro. He served in the Merchant Marines and then served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the European Theater. He was a member of Carolina Memorial Baptist Church. On June 30, 1951, he was married to Kathleen Coggins, who survives of the residence. He was preceded in death by a son, Joe Don Smith.
Also surviving are two daughters, Joyce Smith Goodman of Kinston, and Mrs. Vickie Summey and her husband, Johnny, of Thomasville; two sisters, Mrs. Bob (Billie) Harvelle of Thomasville and Mrs. Wyatt (Carolyn) Coggins of Thomasville; and three grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home by the Rev. Stuart White and the Rev. Kenneth Miller. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
Memorials may be directed to Alzheimers, Eastern N.C. chapter, Room 153 Civitan Building, Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C. 27710.

Lillian Whitley
Albemarle - Mrs. Lillian Efird Whitley, 84, died Jan. 30, 2000, at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center.
Surviving are her husband, Fred H. Whitley of the residence; a son, Lloyd H. Whitley of Thomasville; a daughter, Luedith W. Underwood of Albemarle; a sister, Eleanor Smith of Concord; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Oakboro, by the Rev. Phillip Hunter. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
Memorials may be directed to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 18523 Newsome Road, Oakboro, N.C. 28129.

Phyllis Williams
West End - Phyllis E. Williams, 59, died Jan. 30, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Briggs Candor Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Esther Young
High Point - Mrs. Esther Breedlove Young, 76, of Piedmont Christian Home, formerly of 1109 Textile Place, died Jan 31, 2000, at the home.
She was born May 7, 1923, in Guilford County, a daughter of Lundo and Flora Allred Breedlove. She was a resident of the Jamestown-High Point area all her life and retired from Jamestown Elementary School cafeteria as a baker. She attended Bales Memorial Wesleyan Church and was a member of the Floyd Jones Sunday School Class. On July 31, 1937, she married Harlan Kent Young, who preceded her in death April 21, 1991.
Surviving are a son, Jimmy Young and his wife, Barbara, of High Point; and two sisters, Mrs. Ramle Watson and Mrs. Betty Miller, both of High Point.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Sechrest Chapel, High Point by the Rev. Harold Bumby. Burial will be in Mitchell’s Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Bales Memorial Wesleyan Church, 1000 Bales Chapel Road, Jamestown, N.C. 27282.

Calvin Berrier
Lexington - Calvin Mock Berrier, 39, of Sowers Road, Linwood, died Feb. 7, 2000, at his residence.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Greer’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.

Annita Bucher
Thomasville - Mrs. Annita Lynn Bucher, 41, of 288 Glendale Ave. died Feb. 7, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
She was born Jan. 24, 1959, in Guilford County, a daughter of Charles and Elizabeth Blackwell Feltner. She lived most of her life in this area. She was a homemaker and of the Methodist faith. On May 1, 1993, she was married to Michael Bucher, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are her mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Arrowood of Crouse; two sons, Michael Laws of Thomasville and Matthew Laws of the residence; a sister, Pam Southards of High Point; two brothers, Phillip Feltner of High Point and Steve Feltner; a granddaughter, Alivia Laws; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jim and Margie Bucher of Denton; and her maternal grandfather, Marvin Foster of High Point.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Charles Moses. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of Jim and Margie Bucher, 608 Farmer Road, Denton.

Mildred Hall
High Point - Mrs. Mildred Dow Soles Hall, 73, of 1205 Cox Ave. died Feb. 7, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Sept. 12, 1926, in Bladen County, a daughter of Benjamin and Josephine Pait Dow. She was a member of Gospel Way Baptist Church and a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dossie Soles, Aug. 4, 1983. On Feb. 17, 1985, she was married to Henry Hall, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are six sons, John Soles and his wife, Sarah, Jesse Soles, Tommy Soles and his wife, Beverly, and Terry Soles and his wife, Lora, all of Thomasville, Robert Soles and his wife, Barbara, of Asheboro, and Eugene Soles and his wife, Susie, of Lexington; four daughters, Mrs. Charles (Elizabeth) Fountain of Thomasville, Mrs. Shelton (Janet) Price of Trinity, Ms. Janice Soles of Trinity, and Mrs. Randy (Peggy) Fox of Trinity; 20 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Skipper of Bennettsville, S.C.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale by the Rev. Danny McMahan. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Gospel Way Baptist Church, 310 Circle Drive, Archdale, N.C. 27263.
