Joe Miller
Lexington - Joe Clemons Miller, 66, died Feb. 20, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at the funeral home.

Everette Pierce
Thomasville - Everette Lee Pierce, 93, of 2810 Denton Road died Feb. 20, 2000, at Community General Hospital, where he had been in declining health for many months.
He was born Feb. 15, 1907, in Davidson County, the son of Mary Lee Loflin and Thomas Cicero Pierce. He lived his entire life in the area. He was in upholstery and retired from Carson’s Upholstery in 1987 after 45 years. He was a member of Pierce Chapel Baptist Church.
One of Everette's favorite pasttimes was having a beautiful and bountiful garden, which he shared with family and friends. Everette was one of the kindest and most gentle people God has ever put on this Earth. Everyone loved and admired his easy going, steady way of life and wished they could be more like him.
On Nov. 13, 1933, in Stuart, Va., he married Cora Morris who preceded him in death on Sept. 29, 1996.
They were blessed with four children who survive; Panzie Decker of the home, Margie Wilson of Thomasville; and two sons, Linvel Pierce and Glenn Pierce of Thomasville; three sisters, Girlie Pearce, Manzie Lanier and Frankie Grubb of Lexington. His only living brother is Clarence Pierce, also of Lexington. He has two grandsons, Mark Pierce and Danny Lane Gardner of Thomasville.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at J.C. Green and Sons Chapel by Rev. Kenneth Miller. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home.

Jane Ralston
Jamestown - Jane N. Ralston, 75, of 119 Woodland Dr. died Feb. 20, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital.
She was born in Boston, graduated from Westerly H.S. in Westerly, R.I., and attended Katharine Gibbs School in Providence.
The only child of Edward J. Nestor and Sarah C. Day Nestor, she was married to F. Allan Ralston in 1946. For many years she worked at J.C. Penney and retired in 1986.
Surviving are four daughters, Connie Ralston and Jo Ralston-Asumendi, both of Greensboro, Ann R. Ferguson of Alexander City, Ala., and Beth R. Garrett of Jamestown; three sons-in-law, John Ferguson, Andy Ralston-Asumendi and Richard Garrett; six grandchildren, Kate, Carrie and Craig Ferguson and Meg, Anna and Rick Ralston-Asumendi; and adopted daughter, Lou Bloecher.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 2105 W. Market St, Greensboro. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the church.

Eunice Samuel
High Point - Mrs. Eunice Fowler Samuel, 80, of 809 Burguss Road died Feb. 19, 2000, at her residence after declining health of one year.
She was born April 11, 1919, in Guilford County, a daughter of Earnest W. and Edna Barnes Fowler. She had been a resident of High Point all of her life, former employee of Sara Lee and retired from Maro Hosiery Co. in Thomasville. She attended Christ United Methodist Church. On Feb. 21, 1942, she was married to Robert William Samuel, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Madeline Stone of Gray Brier Nursing and Retirement Center and Mrs. Robert (Dorothy) Lee of Jacksonville, Fla.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point by Dr. Glenn L. Myers Jr. and the Rev. Lloyd G. Hunsucker. Burial will be in the Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Christ United Methodist Church, 1300 N. College Drive, High Point, N.C. 27262.

Gayle Spivey
Jamestown - Gayle Burkes Spivey, 66, of 604 Guilford Road died Feb. 20, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro.
He was born May 9, 1933, in Carroll County, Va., the son of Sidney Abraham and Lura Marie Smythers Spivey. He had been a resident of Jamestown for 15 years.
He was a graduate of Virginia Tech. where earned his bachelor science degree. He had been employed by A&P Tea Co. as plant manager for 20 years, had retired as plant manager at Dairymen Inc-Flav-O-Rich and was working as a security coordinator for the Budd Group. He served in the U.S. Army after the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Jamestown United Methodist Church. On June 27, 1964, he married the former Peggy Godsey, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Andrea Clodfelter and husband, Roger, of High Point; one son, Michael Spivey of Chesapeake, Va.; and his mother of Woodlawn, Va.
Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jamestown United Methodist Church by Dr. C.M. Worthy, the Rev. Ashby Brown, the Rev. Bob Mick and the Rev. Kirk LeJeune. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. today at Sechrest Funeral Home in High Point.
Memorials may be directed to the Columbarium Fund, Jamestown United Methodist Church, 403 E. Main St., Jamestown, N.C. 27282, or to the Leukemia Society of America, 5624 Executive Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28212.

Anne Allen
Lexington - Annie Moran Allen, 73, of Arbor Drive died Feb. 14, 2000, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. Visitation will be at the residence.
Davdison Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Flossie Carmichael
High Point - Mrs. Flossie Sullivan Carmichael, 91, of 908 Old Winston Road died Feb. 14, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Dec. 11, 1908, in Guilford County, a daughter of John R. and Glendora Motsinger Sullivan. She was a bookkeeper and salesperson with Singer Sewing Machine Co. for many years, retiring in 1975. She enjoyed and loved conducting sewing classes at Singer. She was a member of Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and was a member of the Senior Ladies Sunday Class. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years and a former member of Deep River Friends Meeting. She was married for 70 years to Charles Hubert Carmichael, who preceded her in death Dec. 12, 1998. She also was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters whom she loved, Etta Borum, Ava Green, Mary Garrison, Annie Davis, Roy Sullivan and Paul Sullivan.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry G. Carmichael and his wife, Gladys, of Midlothian, Va., and Richard D. Carmichael and his wife, Jane, of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Marcia, Galen, Gwyn, and Mary Jane; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church by the Rev. Roy Cantrell, the Rev. Jack Rose and the Rev. Lee Stocks. The body will be at Sechrest Funeral Service, High Point, until placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to Abbotts Creek Missionary Baptist Church, 2816 Abbotts Creek Church Road, High Point, N.C. 27265.

Mary Guyer
High Point - Mrs. Mary Panak Guyer, 96, of Maryfield Nursing Home, formerly of 501 Greenwood Drive, died Feb. 15 , 2000, at the nursing home.
She was born July 6, 1903, in Stockdale, Pa., a daughter of Martin and Pauline Romanski Panak, who preceded her in death. She retired from Globe Manufacturing Co. and was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was a member of the Blue Ladies Guild of Maryfield. In 1924, she married Homer Dewey Guyer, who preceded her in death in 1958. She also was preceded in death by her daughter, Anna Guyer Owen in 1974.
Surviving are a son, Homer Dewey Guyer of Winston-Salem; five grandchildren, Kenneth Owen of Marietta, Ga., Kevin Owen of High Point, Kellie Owen of Raleigh, Christopher Guyer of Winston-Salem and Tamara Drinkwater of San Marcos, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Anne Baker of Tappahannock, Va.; and six great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church by Father John Kelly. Burial will be in Oakwood Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point.
Memorials may be directed to the Residents Care Fund, c/o Maryfield Nursing Home, 1315 Greensboro Road, High Point, N.C. 27260, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.

Vernon Leath
High Point -
Vernon Howard Leath, 68, of 913 Putnam St. died Feb. 14, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Family Funeral Care-Thomasville.

Nellie Leonard
Lexington - Mrs. Nellie June Lawson Leonard, 64, of Giles Road died at 10:26 a.m. Feb. 15 , 2000, at Lexington Memorial Hospital.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Fulton United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.

Gerald Privette
High Point - Gerald Hight Privette, 59, of 2619 Allen Jay Road, died at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 14, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital after declining health of several months.
He was born July 10, 1940, in Vance County, a son of Wiley Calvin and Alice Hight Privette. He was a resident of High Point for the past 30 years and employed with Thomas Built Buses. He was a baseball and softball coach in the Archdale-Trinity youth league. He was a member of Fairfield United Methodist Church and the Methodist Men. On May 28, 1968, he married Jeannette Hepler, who preceded him in death April 19, 1988.
There are no immediate survivors.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. today at Fairfield United Methodist Church by the Rev. Neal Brower and the Rev. Eugene E. Dean. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to Fairfield United Methodist Church, 1505 NC 62 W., High Point, N.C. 27263.
Cumby Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Smith
Thomasville - Mrs. Margaret DeLong Smith, 76, formerly of 1422 Welborn St., High Point, died Feb. 14, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare.
She was born Oct. 22, 1923, in Monument, Kan., a daughter of Elmer and Mary Hill DeLong. She was a resident of High Point for 45 years and a member of Oakview Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank “Smitty” Smith, in April 1981 and also a son, Shawn Smith, in July 1999.
Surviving are five sons, Jimmy Smith of Conway, Ark., Donnie Smith of Trinity, Alan Smith, Darrel Smith and Tommy Hall, all of High Point; three daughters, Gaye Pickenpack of Parsippany, N.J., Gwen Pulliam of Denton and Janet Smith of Greensboro; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert DeLong of Letts, Iowa, and Glen DeLong of Durham, Calif.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Oakview Baptist Church by the Rev. Darrell Bordeaux. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, and other times at the residence.

Lottie Staton
Siler City - Lottie Tillman Dixon Staton, 91, of Evergreen Nursing Home, 206 Greensboro Road, High Point, died Feb. 14, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was a native of Chatham County and was a member of Green Steet Baptist Church, High Point. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles Staton and Edgar Bowman Dixon; a daughter, Peggy Dixon Beavers and son-in-law, C.R. Beavers Jr.; two brothers, Elvin Tillman and Leonard Tillman.
Surviving are a daughter, Delores Dixon Thurman of Sanford and son-in-law, Earl Thurman; two sisters, Lessie Tillman Ritter and Oppie Tillman Fesmire, both of Siler City; three granddaughters, Susan B. Roberts, Robin Thurman and Lisa Thurman; two grandsons, Jimmy Beavers and Roger Beavers; four great-grandsons, Brandon Roberts, Byron Roberts, Jeremy Beavers and Johnny Thurman; and two great-granddaughters, Melissa Roberts and Susan Beavers.
Funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 N. Second Ave., by the Rev. Gene Phillips. Burial will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery, Greensboro. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.

David Stephens
Archdale - David Eugene Stephens, 36, of 6044 Poole Road died Feb. 14, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale.

Bessie L. Wall
Sophia - Mrs. Bessie Lilly Wall, 85, died Feb. 14, 2000.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
