James Cline
Thomasville - James “Junior” Edward Cline, 70, of 147 Ridge Drive died Feb. 16, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born Jan. 1, 1930, in Caldwell County, a son of James Edward Alexander Cline Sr. and Florence Pipes Cline. He was retired from Thomasville Furniture Industries. On July 14, 1961, he married Brenda Wright, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Sherrie Cline Sarkady of Reston, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Dollie White and Mrs. Shirley Watson, both of Taylorsville; two brothers, Bobby Cline of Lenoir, and William Cline of San Antonio, Texas; and a half brother, Steve Steele of Lenoir.
Funeral will be 6 p.m. Saturday at Carolina Memorial Baptist Church by the Rev. Stuart White. Visitation will be 5-6 p.m. Saturday at the church.
The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until the service hour.
Memorials may be directed to Carolina Memorial Baptist Church, 422 Liberty Drive, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

Patrick Hayes
Archdale - Patrick Dean Hayes, infant son of Christopher Patrick and Jamie Edmiston Hayes, of 321 Daniel Paul Drive, died at birth Feb. 17, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
Surviving are his parents of the residence; a sister, Rebecca Anne Hayes of the residence; his maternal grandparents, Dan and Patsy Edmiston of Wilkesboro; his paternal grandparents, Michael and Elyssa Hayes of Cincinnati, Ohio.
Memorial service will be held at a later date.
Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale, is in charge of arrangements.

John Hopkins
New York City - John Hopkins, 64, of 529 W. 158th St., formerly of Thomasville, N.C., died Feb. 15, 2000, at Harlem Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Haizlip Funeral Home.

Luevenia Keene
Wilson - Mrs. Luevenia Barnes Keene, 67, of 4111 Evansdale Road died Feb. 17, 2000, at her residence.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Shingleton Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Peggy Leonard
Thomasville - Mrs. Peggy Joyce Stewart Johnson Beck Leonard, 65, of 117 Circle Drive died at 12:56 p.m., Feb. 16, 2000, at Community General Hospital.
She was born April 5, 1934, in Cumberland County, a daughter of Dewey McKenley and Pauline Godwin Stewart, who preceded her in death. She was a homemaker and a member of Springfield Baptist Church and attended First United Methodist Church. She was married to Roy Beck, who preceded her in death, and later married Harold Leonard, who survives of the residence.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. John (Joyce) Walton of Thomasville; four sons, Bobby Ray Johnson of Princeton, N.C., Billy Johnson and Jerry R. Johnson, both of Smithfield, and Ricky Junior Johnson of Selma, N.C.; four sisters, Mrs.. Merle Lovick of Fayetteville, Mrs. Betty Jo Smith of Salemburg, Mrs. Patsy Hollis of Haw River, and Mrs. Marsha Wrench of Roseboro; a brother, Jerry Stewart of Godwin; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at J.C. Green & Sons Chapel by the Rev. Jack G. Stratas. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.

James Loman
Salisbury - The Rev. James Harold Loman, 82, of 1135 Briarwood Terrace died Feb. 17, 2000, at Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Wesleyan Church. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. tonight at the church.
Summersett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lester Myers
Archdale - Lester Wayne “Butch” Myers, 36, of 6216 Old Mendenhall Road died at his residence.
He was born Nov. 2, 1963, in Guilford County, a son of Shirley Honeycutt Myers. He was an employee of Piedmont Packaging and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his mother, Feb. 20, 1993.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Pamela Nixon and her husband, Jimmy, of Trinity, and Ms. Toni Fonner of Sanford.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sechrest Chapel, Archdale, by the Rev. Fred Richardson. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Lexington. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Clarkie Payton
Lexington - Mrs. Clarkie Mann Payton, 82, of Heritage Greens died at 5:40 a.m. Feb. 17, 2000, at Moses Cone Hospital.
Graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Forest Hill Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home.

Gary Pierce
Thomasville - Gary D. Pierce went to be with Jesus at 9:55 a.m., Feb. 16, 2000, after two years of declining health. He was injured in a car accident Nov. 7, 1960, at the age of 15, that left him a quadriplegic. For 40 years, he was a true soldier and fought a hard fight to the end. He was an inspiration to his family and friends. His strength has and will carry all of us through.
He received his high school diploma certificate Dec. 14, 1979, and an associate of science degree in transportation on May 13, 1982. On April 29, 1983, he married Lisa Todd. He was preceded in death by an uncle, Ralph Pierce and three aunts, Mrs. Eunice Pierce, Mrs. Moring Wagner and Mrs. Charlotte Ellis.
Surviving are his loving and dedicated wife of the residence; his parents, Tiras C. and Maxine D. Pierce of Thomasville; a sister, Gwen P. Pitts and her husband, Jack, of High Point; a brother, Terry C. Pierce and his wife, Nancy, of Thomasville; a niece, Cynthia D. Wilmoth; three nephews, Tracy C. Pierce, M. Kevin Hayes and Mark C. Pierce; two great-nephews, Dillon Pierce and Jordan Smith; aunts and uncles, Louie and Glenna Taylor of Mt. Airy, Everette Pierce of Lexington, Eva Hill of Thomasville, Troy and Doris Pierce of Lexington, the Rev. Warren and Oleen Pierce of Lexington, Elwood and Josephine Pierce of Albermarle, Barbara Pierce of Archdale, Lacy and Inez Pierce of Asheboro, and Coleen Ward of Winston-Salem; mother-in-law, Elneida L. Todd of Thomasville; 27 first cousins; numerous second and third cousins; three special friends, Chris Todd, Robert Holloman and Glen Townsend.
He was cremated. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 1051/2 Harris Street.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Davidson County, P.O. Box 1941, Lexington, N.C. 27292, or to March of Dimes, 500 W. 4th St., Suite 100, Winston-Salem, N.C. 27101.

Lewis Spencer
Asheboro - Lewis Taft Spencer, 91, died Feb. 16, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at New Center Christian Church. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Pugh Funeral Home.

Paul Calhoun
Linwood - Paul Lee Calhoun, 74, died Feb. 18, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel, Bryson City. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Piedmont Funeral Home.

Ronnie Flack
Archdale - Ronnie Flack, 37, of 5620 Poole Road died Feb. 17, 2000, at his residence.
He was of the Baptist faith and worked as an electrician for 10 years. He was a loving brother, son and uncle. He will be dearly missed. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Flack.
Surviving are his mother, Nell Flack of Archdale; a sister, Tina McMahan and her husband, Mike, of Sophia; a brother, Tommy Flack of Archdale; and two nieces, Crystal Wansley and her husband, Heath, and Dawn McMahan, all of Sophia.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Hanes-Lineberry, Vanstory Chapel. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

Myrtle Wall
Charlotte - Mrs. Myrtle McCorkle Wall, 86, died Feb. 18, 2000.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus Edward Wall.
Surviving are her son, James C. Wall Sr. and his wife, Catherine, of Charlotte; two grandchildren, James C. Wall Jr. and Caprice Scott; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Floral Garden Park Cemetery, High Point.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, Southern Piedmont Chapter, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28215.
Harry and Bryant Co. is in charge of arrangements.

Erslie Watson
Archdale - Mrs. Erslie Collins Watson, 82, of True-Care of Archdale, formerly of 6624 Maple Leaf Court, Trinity, died Feb. 18, 2000, at the residence.
She was born Oct. 3, 1917, in Guilford County, a daughter of Charlie Frank and Monnie Yarborough Collins. She retired from Harris & Covington Hosiery Mills and was of the Baptist faith. She was married to Richard Watson, who preceded her in death June 15, 1985.
Surviving are four daughters, Vanessa Blackburn and Teresa Milloway of High Point, Eileen Good of Colorado and Fern Prevette of Hayes; three sons, Edgar Lee Lockhart of King, Thomas J. Lockhart and Carlos W. Lockhart, both of Trinity; two sisters, Mrs. Jewel Trivette and Mrs. Stella Ferguson, both of High Point; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Sechrest Funeral Home Chapel, Archdale, by Brother Mitchell Owenby. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Thelma Gearren
Asheboro - Mrs. Thelma Elizabeth Rose Gearren, 70, died Feb. 21, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.
