Jennie Rush
High Point - Mrs. Jennie Robinson Rush, 98, of 811-A Leonard Ave. died Sept. 28, 1999, at Britthaven of Davidson in Thomasville, where she had been a patient since Aug. 23, 1999. She had been in declining health for four months.
She was born Oct. 24, 1900, in Montgomery County, a daughter of Tom and Ida Rush Robinson. She was a lifelong resident of North Carolina and for many years, she was employed as a housekeeper in various private homes. Spiritually, she was a member of First Emmanuel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Rush; a son, Troy L. Robinson; a granddaughter, Teresa Robinson; a daughter-in-law, Annie M. Robinson; and her parents. She was the last of 21 siblings.
Surviving are one granddaughter, Marilyn (Rodney) Brewington of High Point; one grandson, Keith Robinson of High Point; one great-granddaughter, Naquita Brewington of High Point; a niece, Bettye (Rev. Bobby) Curtis of High Point; and numerous other nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at First Emmanuel Baptist Church by the Rev. Lawrence Curtis. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. Saturday at the church and at other times at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Rodney (Marilyn) Brewington, 3803 Banoak St.
Haizlip Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ella Setzer
High Point - Mrs. Ella Yount Setzer, 99, of 259 Dorothy St. died at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 29, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born Dec. 24, 1899, in Lincoln County, a daughter of James A. and Callie Davis Yount. She had been a resident of High Point since 1942 and retired from Plymouth Hosiery. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. She was married to James Broadus Setzer Sr., who preceded her in death April 16, 1978.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. George (Betty) Beck of 805 Trenton St.; one son, James Broadus Setzer Jr. of 508 Playground Road, Archdale; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Bean of Lincolnton and Mrs. Nancy Stroud of Maryfield Nursing Home; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 35 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point by the Rev. Hearth Kennedy. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.

Hugh Snider
Linwood - Hugh Henderson “Jack” Snider, 83, of 4510 Simmerson Road died at 10 p.m. Sept. 28, 1999, at his residence.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Smith Grove Baptist Church. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday at the church fellowship hall.
Davidson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Anna Swaim
Salisbury - Mrs. Anna Elizabeth Young Swaim, 89, of Genesis HealthCare, formerly of Hege Drive, Lexington, died at 3:15 p.m. Sept. 28, 1999, at the healthcare facility after an extended illness.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

J.D. Williams
Memphis, Tenn. - J.D. Williams, 83, died Sept. 29, 1999.
He was a retired truck driver and a member of Ardmore Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Tommie Calhoun of Philo, Ill., and Jacquelyn Harris of High Point, N.C.; a son, Taylor Williams of Bartlett, Tenn.; two sisters, Darden Lewis of Memphis and Lois Wallis of Little Rock, Ark.; a brother, Keith Williams of Victorville, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Roller Family Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memphis Memory Gardens.

Pauline Wilson
Asheboro - Mrs. Pauline Kinley Wilson, 85, a dear sweet mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, was called home to be with our Lord quietly and peacefully as she slept Sept. 28, 1999, after a long illness at the home of her devoted daughter, Elaine Allred, and her family, Mike, Gabe and Christa near Buchanan, Va., who were extremely crucial in caring for our Mom. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of many years, Everett Wilson.
Surviving are her deeply caring son, Jerry R. Wilson of Trinity and his special daughter, Lori Vestal, who dearly loved her grandmother; Lori’s husband, Duane, and her daughter, Olivia, of Sophia; Jerry’s sons, Robbie and David Wilson of Trinity; a great-grandson, Marcus Wilson; two brothers, Grady J. Kinley of High Point and Ray S. Kinley of Trinity; two sisters, Virginia K. Hill of Archdale and Mattie K. Briles of Asheboro; and many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Gardens of Memory in Walkertown by the Rev. J. Harold Hammond. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Pugh Funeral Home.
She will be greatly missed by all who loved her, but are comforted by knowing we will be reunited some day on the other side.

Ruby Younger
Trinity - Mrs. Ruby Anne Butcher Younger, 73, of 4702 Archdale Road died Sept. 29, 1999, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Sechrest Funeral Service, E. Lexington Avenue.

Helen Armstrong
High Point - Ms. Helen Marie Armstrong, 74, formerly of 3101 Butterfield Drive died Sept. 28, 1999, at High Point Regional Hospital.
She was born April 29, 1925, in High Point, a daughter of Harvey and Alice Presley Armstrong. She was a dining room supervisor at Winston-Salem State University. She attended William Penn High School and was a member of Mt. Calvary Holy Church in Winston-Salem. She was preceded in death by her parents; seven brothers, David Armstrong, Harold Armstrong, Frank Armstrong, e Oree and Dorothy Clinton; godchildren, Renata Smith and Cassie N. Rush; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Calvary Holy Church by Bishop Harold I. Williams. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be 7-8 tonight at Hargett-Gilmore Funeral Service and 1:30-2 p.m. Saturday at the church and other times at the residence.

Robert Harrison
Raleigh - Robert Ray Harrison, 66, of 509 Glenwood Ave. died Sept. 29, 1999.
He was self-employed for many years and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Debbie Harrison of Raleigh; a son, Scott Harrison of Charlotte; his mother, Dora Harrison of Archdale; two brothers, Johnnie M. Harrison of High Point and Talton J. Harrison of Trinity; a sister, Lynn Nunn of Thomasville; and two granddaughters, Lindsey and Leslie Harrison of Raleigh.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion United Church of Christ, 130 Hasty School Road, Thomasville. Visitation will be 6-8:30 tonight at the residence of Mark and Debbie Harrison.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
Family Funeral Care in Zebulon is in charge of arrangements.

David Jarrett
Thomasville - The Rev. David L. Jarrett, 60, of 7519 Farmbrook Place went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Sept. 29, 1999, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
He was born July 3, 1939, in Davidson County, a son of Edwin L. and Evelyn Haneline Jarrett. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, retiring following 20 years of service. He was a life member of the N.C. National Guard Association, a member of the National Rifle Association, the Thomasville Lions Club and he also was an eye donor. He was a member and associate pastor with Hillside Park Baptist Church, where he taught the Adult II Sunday School Class. He also had an outreach ministry in three local nursing homes. On Dec. 30, 1972, he married Elizabeth “Liz” Smith Jarrett, who survives of the home.
Also surviving are two sons, Michael Jarrett of Thomasville and Troy Jarrett of High Point; a grandson, Nathaniel Jarrett; his mother of Thomasville; and two brothers, Freddie Jarrett of Kernersville and Garry Jarrett of Pickens, S.C.
A Celebration of Life will be held 11 a.m. Sunday at Hillside Park Baptist Church by the Rev. John Wheeles. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park. The body will be at J.C. Green & Sons Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and other times at the residence of his niece, Monte and Beverly Heitman, 333 Trenton Lane, Thomasville.
Memorials may be directed to Hillside Park Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 543, Thomasville, N.C. 27361.

Thomas Jarvis Jr.
Lexington - Thomas Christopher Jarvis Jr., 29, of S. Forest Lane left this life Sept. 29, 1999.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Mary Keever
High Point - Mrs. Mary Vada Taylor Keever of 222 Pine Ridge Drive died Sept. 29, 1999, at Evergreens Nursing Center.
She was born March 14, 1925, in High Point, a daughter of Homer Taylor and Nancy Taylor Finch. After graduating from Allen Jay High School in 1942, she married Ray H. Keever, who survives of the home. A lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, she was very active in the life of the church and was a member of the Family Fellowship Sunday School Class. She was a member of the High Point Hospital Guild and Colonial Country Club in Thomasville.
She was an avid golfer and was one of the city’s finest ladies players for years. She qualified for and played in the North and South Amateur in Pinehurst. She also was chosen by the Carolina Golf Association as one of the top 10 golfers in North and South Carolina, representing the Carolinas in tournament play. She was club champion at Colonial Country Club. She also was High Point Ladies City Champion and High Point Enterprise Champion.
She remained active in the Piedmont Golf Association even after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Her determined spirit rewarded her with years of continued competitive play and physical mobility. Of all her interests and loves, the greatest was for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Ilderton and her husband, Clarence; two sons, Jim Keever and his wife, Dottie, and Danny Keever and his wife, Susan; seven grandchildren, Ashley Stevens and her husband, Frank, Shannon Snipes and her husband, David, Wes Keever, Jimmy Keever, Price Keever, Christopher and Cameron Keever; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Stella Shackelford; and a brother, Lloyd Taylor and his wife, June.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. Donnell Lloyd. Private burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at Sechrest Funeral Service and other times at the residence.

Rush; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today at Mt. Calvary Holy Church by Bishop Harold I. Williams. Burial will be in Carolina Biblical Gardens. Visitation will be 1:30-2 p.m. today at the church and other times at the residence.
