Barbara Hackworth
High Point - Mrs. Barbara Sneed Hackworth, 52, of 4815 47th Ave. West, Bradenton, Fla. and former resident of Thomasville, died March 9, 2000 at Blake Medical Center in Bradenton.
Mrs. Hackworth was born Feb. 15, 1948 in High Point to Johnny and Ruby Higgs Sneed. She was employed at Ragan Hosiery, Inc. in Thomasville.
Mrs. Hackworth was married to Hershel Hackworth, who survives of the home. Also surviving are two sons, Johnny Hight of Lexington and Charles Kennedy of Thomasville; three sisters, Mrs. Judy Burke of Trinity, Mrs. Betty Scearce of Thomasville and Mrs. Patsy Willard of Fairbanks, Alaska; four brothers, John W. Williams of Martin, Ga., Charles Farrell of Fayetteville, Donald Sneed of Badin Lake and Jimmy Sneed of Holly Ridge; and three grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. today in the Chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, Archdale by the Rev. Harold Shives. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park, Thomasville. Memorials may be directed to The American Cancer Society, 1004 N. Main St., High Point, N.C. 27262.

Dorothy Keiser
High Point - Mrs. Dorothy Oglesby Keiser, 73, of Wesleyan Arms and formerly of Council Street, died March 10, 2000 at High Point Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Keiser was born June 4, 1929 in High Point, a daughter of John Herbert and Grace Wood Oglesby. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church. She married Ray R. Keiser Sr. who preceded her in death .
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Kathy Gordon of Statesboro, Ohio; five sons, C.K. (Rusty) Sherrill of Sophia, Marvin E. Sherrill of Jacksonville, Fla., Tommy A. Krieger of Lake Mary, Fla., John F. Keiser of Covington, Ga. and William P. Keiser of Charlotte; her mother, Mrs. Grace Wood Oglesby; two step-daughters, Mrs. Dennis (Dianna) Boxx of Kiddleburg, Fla. and Mrs. Leonard (Paula) Maithland of Fremont, Calif.; one step-son, Capt. U.S. Navy retired R.R. Keiser Jr. of Milpitas Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Nancy O. Mahoney and her husband, Jerry, of Jamestown; one brother, Donald Oglesby and his wife, Barbara, of Ocala, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday in Sechrest Chapel, High Point, by Dr. Bill Slater. Burial will be in Floral Garden Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at the funeral home and other times at the home of her mother, 629 Quaker Lane.
Memorials may be directed to First Baptist Church, 405 N. Main St., High Point, N.C. 27260.

Retha Loflin
High Point - Retha Trotter Loflin, 80, of Stratford Road, died March 9, 2000 at High Point Regional Hospital.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hickory Chapel Wesleyan Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30-8:30 tonight at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home.

Charlie Moore
Winston-Salem - WINSTON-SALEM – Charlie Edward Moore, 66, of Winston-Salem, died March 11, 2000 at High Point Regional Hospital.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Foster Funeral Home.

Roscoe Smith
High Point - Roscoe Lee Smith, 76, of 1213 Filbert St., died March 7, 2000 at his residence.
Mr. Smith was born Feb. 5, 1924 in Alamance County, a son of Caroline Tillson Blackburn. He was employed by Pierce Roif Corp. and a member of United House of Prayer for All People. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Ida Mae Smith, and a sister, Ms. Katie Bell Blackburn.
Surviving are two daughters, Ms. Linda Blackburn Hardy and Ms. Alice Blackburn Conrad, both of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, James Conrad, Leon Conrad, Lea Hardy and James Cecil Hardy Jr., all of Winston-Salem; seven great-grandchildren; and a devoted friend, Mary Alice Lawson.
Funeral will 4 p.m. today at United House of Prayer for All Peoples by Elder Richarson. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 3:30-4:00 today at the church.

Pauline Stone
High Point - Mrs. Pauline Lloyd Stone, 78, of 400 N. Main St., died March 11, 2000 at High Point Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Stone was born July 1, 1921 in Guilford County, a daughter of William Troy and Rae Stewart Lloyd. She was a lifelong resident of High Point and retired in 1955 from Amos Hosiery Company. Mrs. Stone was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ. She was married to Raymond Stone, who preceded her in death Oct. 11, 1983. Also preceding her in death was a daughter, Janet Stone Burgess, on Oct. 23, 1998.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Rhonda Griffin Weatherman of High Point; one son, Raymond L. Stone of Winston-Salem; two brothers, Darrell W. Lloyd of Lenoir and Terry A. Lloyd of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Barry James Griffin of High Point, Wanda Burgess Clarke of Charleston, S.C. and Shannon Brooks of Walkertown; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Sechrest Chapel by the Rev. Donald L. Stevenson. Burial will follow in Oakwood Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Sechrest Funeral Service, E. Lexington Avenue, and other times at the home of her daughter, 3028 Windchase Court.
Memorials may be directed to The American Cancer Society, 4-A Oak Branch Drive, Greensboro, N.C. 27407-2145.

Charlotte Aaron
LEXINGTON - Ms. Charlotte Aaron, 94, of Hollyberry Lane, Holly Grove Community died at 12:20 p.m. March 8, 2000, at SunBridge Nursing Home.
Funeral will be 4 p.m. today at Davidson Funeral Home. Visitation will be 3-4 p.m. today prior to the service.

Harold Gray
LEXINGTON - Harold Gray, 90, of Hillside Drive died at 12:45 p.m. March 9, 2000, at his residence after declining health of two years.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

John Hughes
THOMASVILLE - John Thomas “Mr. John” Hughes, 93, died March 9, 2000, at Beverly Health Care, where he had been a patient for 11/2 years.
He was born March 22, 1906, in Randolph County, a son of Charlie T. and Rettie Kennedy Hughes. He was a lumber dealer and farmer for most of his live. He owned Hughes Farm Supply for a number of years. He attended what was Wallburn High School, Thomasville High School and graduated from Trinity High School. He won a medal for debating, and was a star basketball player. He drove the first school bus from the Westfield and Tabernacle communities to Trinity High School. He was a charter member of the Fair Grove Lions Club and the oldest member.
He attended Unity United Methodist Church as long as his health permitted. He was married for 60 years to Verda Briles, a Thomasville school teacher, who in 1989, preceded him in death. He also was preceded in death by four brothers, C. Ross Hughes, H. Glenn Hughes, Hal W. Hughes and Robert W. Hughes.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Charles (Virginia) Thomas of Thomasville; several nieces and nephews; and three sisters-in-law, Mrs. Kathleen Hughes, Mrs. Jessie Hughes and Mrs. Virginia Hughes.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Saturday at Family Funeral Care Chapel by the Rev. DeForest E. Hillyer Jr., minister of Unity United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Holly Hill Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 7-8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Members of the Fair Grove Lions Club are asked to be honorary pallbearers and are asked to meet at the funeral home 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
Memorials may be directed to Unity United Methodist Church, 134 Circle Drive, Thomasville, N.C. 27360.

Clarence Kemp
HIGH POINT - Clarence Edward “Ed” Kemp, 78, of 809 Oakview Road died March 9, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.

Ronald Marion
HIGH POINT -
Ronald Dee Marion, 63, formerly of Astor Dowdy Towers, died March 9, 2000, at SunBridge of the Triad Nursing Home following an illness.
He was born March 26, 1937, a son of Vance and Mattie Stilley Marion, who preceded him in death. He was a veteran and worked in the furniture industry. He was a member of the Landmark Baptist Church Adult Sunday School Class.
Surviving are a son, Terry Lee Marion of High Point; two stepsons, Monroe Martin of Archdale and Tony Martin of Lexington; a stepdaughter, Linda Hart of Trinity.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Landmark Baptist Church by the Rev. Amos Mashburn. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at Harold C. Davis Funeral Home.
Memorials may be directed to Landmark Baptist Church, 6055 Sunset View Drive, Archdale, N.C. 27362.

Hoite Morton Jr.
ASHEBORO - Hoite “H.C.” Clifton Morton Jr., 49, died March 9, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Ridge Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Harold Trogdon Sr.
ASHEBORO - Harold Thomas Trogdon Sr., 72, died March 9, 2000.
Funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Ridge Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be 7-9 tonight at the funeral home.

James Whitley
THOMASVILLE - James Bruce Whitley, 74, of 307 Washboard Road died March 8, 2000, at High Point Regional Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1925, in Stanly County, a son of Marcus Dewey and Ida Rose Herrin Whitley, who preceded him in death. He was married to Mary C. Whitley, the mother of his children, who preceded him in death. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II, and the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal. He gave 30 years of service to Central Motorlines as a truck driver.
Surviving are two daughters, Judy Whitley Allen and her husband, Barry, of Greensboro and Debbie Williams of Greensboro; two sons, Stan Whitley and his wife, Rita, of Burlington and Ron Whitley and his wife, Carol, of Greensboro; two sisters, Madie Little and Dot Morton, both of Stanly County; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and also a special friend and caretaker, Eloise Saunders.
Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service, High Point, by the Rev. Joey Tomlin. Visitation will be today one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 29247, Greensboro, N.C. 27429, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
