MARGARET MCCRACKEN
SANFORD - Margaret Moore McCracken passed away Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at Parkview Rest and Retirement Home. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Buffalo Cemetery by the Rev. Del Parkerson.
She was born in Forest City on May, 1, 1910, and was the daughter of the late Charles C. Moore and Florence Bridges Moore. She attended Converse College and graduated from Duke University with a BA degree in 1930. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Webb McCracken Jr., in 1957, and a son-in-law, Jack Dossenbach Jr., in 2003.
Mrs. McCracken taught for many years in the N.C. public schools in Lenoir, and then at St. Clair School in Sanford. Later she finished her career at Grace Christian School in Sanford. She loved and enjoyed teaching her third-graders, and the relationships were mutual as evidenced by the many visits and cards she received over the years. Mrs. McCracken was a member of the Steele Street Methodist Church beginning in 1935 and then St. Luke Methodist Church. She was also a Cub Scout den mother and a member of the Otherwise Literary Club and the Vanity Fair Bridge Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Florence McCracken Dossenbach, a son, Dr. Frank Webb McCracken III, and his wife, Ann Phillips McCracken; a grandson, Robert Dossenbach and his wife Julia; granddaughters, Margaret Leigh Normann and her husband Sherrill, Flossie Parks and her husband Tracy, Sherrill McCracken and her husband Ryan Richardson, Sarah McCracken Cobb and her husband Will. Her 10 great-grandchildren are Chris, Ashley and Adam Dossenbach, Allison Banks, McKeller and Marleigh Normann, Carolina Cobb and James Webb, Peter and Anna Compton. Her nephew, Robert W. Moore, and nieces Florence Ann Tucker and Mary Jo Kennedy, also survive.
The family appreciates the compassionate care provided by Parkview employees and other caregivers during the past five years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Boys and Girls Club of Sanford/Lee County, 1414 Bragg St., Sanford, N.C. 27330, or to St. Luke United Methodist Church building fund, 2916 Wicker St., Sanford, N.C. 27330.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
Arrangements are by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

WILLIAM HALL
CAMERON - William Henry Hall, 61, of Cameron, died Monday (4/5/04) at Mission Hospital in Asheville.
Born in Lee County, he was a son of Ruby Cameron Hall of Cameron and the late William Henry Taft Hall.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Rogers Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in St. Andrews Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Hall is survived by daughters, Darlene Bells of Florida and Diana Lynn Hall of Southern Pines; a son, Scotty Hall of Virginia; sisters, Nancy McGehee of Cameron, Redell Maples of Cameron, Frances Hall of Cameron and Linda Whitaker of Carthage; brothers, Roy Hall of Cameron and Wayne Hall of Asheboro; and nine grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday at Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.
Arrangements are by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

VESPER COX
SANFORD - Vesper Cox, 79, of 2104 Lord Ashley Drive, died Wednesday (4/7/04) at Kingswood Nursing Center in Aberdeen.
Born in Lee County, he was son of the late Josiah Talmadge Cox Sr. and Roxie Carrie Thomas Cox. He was a charter member of Emmanuel Congregational Christian Church UCC, and was a salesman with Lee Brick and Tile Co. He retired after 39 years of employment. He was a member of the Sanford Exchange Club and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Emmanuel Congregational Christian UCC by the Rev. Richard Leaptrott and the Rev. Ronald M. Cox. Burial will be in Lee Memory Gardens.
Surviving are his wife, Faye Cline Cox; son, the Rev. Ronald M. Cox and wife Elke of Anna, Ill.; a daughter, Carol Cox Collins and husband Donnie of Sanford; a sister, Gerry Phelps of San Diego, Calif.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Members of the Sanford Exchange Club are requested to serve as honorary pallbearers and to be at the church at 10:30 a.m. Friday.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

CLYDE MCLEOD
SANFORD - Clyde "Foley" Hampton McLeod, 52, of 1019 Clark Circle, died Sunday (4/4/04) at home.
Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at New Generation Church. Burial will follow in Minter Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Diane McLeod, at home; his mother, Margaret McLeod of Carthage; a sister, Alice Williams of Cameron; a brother, Rickey T. McLean of Sanford; and a daughter, Racquel Turner-McLeod.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Knotts Funeral Home.

ROBERT McLEAN
JOHNSONVILLE - Funeral for Robert Lee McLean, who died Saturday (4/3/04), was conducted Wednesday at Church of God, Johnsonville. Officiating was Bishop Ben Davis and eulogist was Bishop Marvin Smith.
Music was by Anointed Voices of Victory Tabernacle, Beverly McLean and Beverly Prince. Scripture readings were by Apostle Albert Prince and Pastor Harrison Ray. Prayer of comfort was by Bishop Charles Cameron. Acknowledgments by were Pastor Genevia Davis.
Interment was in Johnsonville Community Cemetery.
Arrangements were by Knotts Funeral Home.

LOUISE JARVIS
SPRING LAKE -Louise Elliott Jarvis, 80, of 618 Mont Drive, died Wednesday (3/31/04) at Woodlands Assisted Living.
Funeral service will be held at noon Friday at Elizabeth Street Mortuary by Pastor Kimberly Nixon.
She is survived by a daughter, Madelyn Lisa Johnson of Gaffney, S.C., and a son, Cedric H. Jarvis of Spring Lake.
Arrangements are by Elizabeth Street Mortuary.

MARGARET SMITH
PITTSBORO - Margaret Smith, 77, of 7688 U.S. 64 West, died Tuesday (4/6/04) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.
Arrangements are pending at Knotts Funeral Home in Siler City.

DANA BARBER
CARTHAGE - Dana Koshak Barber, 59, of Carthage, died Sunday (4/4/04)

DAVID MOODY
BEAR CREEK - David Eugene Moody, 71, of 1026 Barker Road, died Tuesday (8/3/04) at his home.
A native of Chatham County, he was retired from the Chatham County Recycling Center in Bonlee. He was a member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Sandy Branch Baptist Church Cemetery, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek, by the Rev. Robert Capps.
Surviving are wife, Yvonne Haymore Moody of the home; a daughter, Donna Moody McKay of Spartenburg, S.C.; a brother, James B. Moody of Greensboro; a granddaughter; a stepdaughter, Kathy Key of Sanford; stepsons, Steve Cicogna and Paul Cicogna of Sanford; 9 stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Smith and Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Ave., Siler City, and at other times at the family home.

LONNIE BAKER
SANFORD - Lonnie Junior Baker, 71, of 1906 Rice Road, died Tuesday (8/3/04) at Duke University Medical Center.
Born in Wake County, he was a son of the late Harrison Field Baker and Allie Bessie Ashworth Baker. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Catherine Boggs Baker. He worked 20 years at Sanford Furniture Company and retired from Tramway Veneers.
Funeral will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Bobby Chastain.
Surviving are a son, Ronnie Baker and wife Betty of Carbonton; daughters, Carolyn Bowman and husband Donald and Sherry Klingman and husband Michael, all of Sanford; and Melba Reagan and husband Rodney of Broadway; a sister, Kathleen Ashworth of Sanford; 12 grandchildren; at five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

CHALVESTER HOWARD
KANNAPOLIS - Chalvester Howard, 75, of Kannapolis, brother of John Howard Sr. and wife Almeta of Sanford, died Saturday (7/31/04) at Rowan Regional Hospital in Salisbury.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Columbus Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, N.C. 73 West, Davidson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Also surviving are a son; a sister; two other brothers; and many relatives and friends.
Arrangements are by Noble and Kelsey Funeral Home in Salisbury. Information provided by Knotts Funeral Home.

MARIE BRUCE
SANFORD - Graveside service for Ellie "Marie" Bruce, 62, who died Sunday (8/1/04) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill., was held Tuesday at Buffalo Cemetery by Pastor Scott Weinkauff.
Guitarist was Ronnie Cox.
Arrangements were by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.
