ELSIE HUSTED
ENID, Okla. - Elsie Gunter Husted, 71, of 1312 W. Pine, Enid, formerly of Sanford, went to be with her Heavenly Father Monday (12/1/03) at Integris Bass Baptist Hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Husted was preceded in death by her father, Reuben Gunter, and a brother, Robert L. Gunter.
Surviving are her mother, Margaret Gunter McNeill of Victorian Manor, Sanford; daughters, Terry Boling and Karen Washburn, both of Enid; a son, Donald Washburn and wife Brandy of Enid; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Husted has two aunts, Vallie Holt and Annie Lynn Sessoms and husband Preston, all of Sanford; a niece, Becky Gunter Ragan and husband Charles, and children, Chas and Anthony, all of Sanford; and several more relatives in the Sanford area.
Mrs. Husted was a very thoughtful and caring person. Mrs. Husted was loved and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Browns Funeral Home Chapel, 400 W. Maple St., Enid, by Pastor Keith Miller. Burial will follow in the Enid Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Browns Funeral Home.

WILLIAM GALES
ROANOKE, Va. - William Earl "Buddy" Gales, 69, of Roanoke,Va., and a native of Bynum, N.C., died Monday (2/2/04) at Virginia Beach General Hospital following a brief illness.
A native of Chatham County, N.C., he was a son of Henry Gaston and Beulah Campbell Gales. He was a graduate of the University of South Carolina where he received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service after more than 30 years of service. He had resided in Virginia since 1978.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister, Virginia Pearl, and three brothers.
Service will be conducted by Rev. Randy Blanton and Rev. Shane Arnold at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bynum Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Plans are being made for a memorial service to be held in Roanoke.
Surviving are daughters, Renee Wian and husband Richard of Virginia Beach and Melinda Gales of Richmond; sisters, Edna Bellamy of Newport News and Lillian Mays of South Carolina; a grandson, four nephews and two nieces.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Griffin Funeral Service in Pittsboro, N.C.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11 S. Boylan, Suite 221, Raleigh, N.C. 27603.

JULIUS MARTIN
SANFORD - Julius Caesar Martin, 46, of 2631 Fayetteville St., died Sunday (2/1/04) at Central Carolina Hospital.
He was employed with Coty Inc. for 17 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Yolanda Evette Hooker of Sanford; sons, Caesar Decarlos Hooker and Julius Cordette Hooker, both of Sanford; his father, Ernest Julius Martin of New York; a sister, Lydia Sykes of Sanford; and a brother, Jeffrey L. Martin and his wife Phillinia of Sanford; and four grandchildren.
Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Watson Mortuary with Eldress Marilyn Cross. Burial will be in New Zion Cemetery.
Friends may call at the home.

MARGARET MITCHELL
SILER CITY - Margaret Mitchell, of 944 Mt. Vernon Springs Road, died Tuesday (1/3/04) at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Arrangements are pending at Knotts Funeral Home.

DEBRA CRANE
SANFORD - Debra Cox Crane, of Sanford, died Tuesday (1/3/04) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Arrangements are pending at Miller-Boles Funeral Home.

MARGARET MCCRACKEN
SANFORD - Margaret Moore McCracken passed away Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004, at Parkview Rest and Retirement Home.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Buffalo Cemetery by the Rev. Del Parkerson.
She was born in Forest City on May, 1, 1910, and was the daughter of the late Charles C. Moore and Florence Bridges Moore. She attended Converse College and graduated from Duke University with a bachelor's degree in 1930. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Webb McCracken Jr., in 1957, and a son-in-law, Jack Dossenbach Jr., in 2003.
Mrs. McCracken taught for many years in the N.C. public schools in Lenoir, and then at St. Clair School in Sanford. Later she finished her career at Grace Christian School in Sanford. She loved and enjoyed teaching her third-graders, and the relationships were mutual as evidenced by the many visits and cards she received over the years. Mrs. McCracken was a member of the Steele Street Methodist Church beginning in 1935 and then St. Luke Methodist Church. She was also a Cub Scout den mother and a member of the Otherwise Literary Club and the Vanity Fair Bridge Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Florence McCracken Dossenbach; a son, Dr. Frank Webb McCracken III, and his wife, Ann Phillips McCracken; a grandson, Robert Dossenbach and his wife Julia; granddaughters, Margaret Leigh Normann and her husband Sherrill, Flossie Parks and her husband Tracy, Sherrill McCracken and her husband Ryan Richardson, Sarah McCracken Cobb and her husband Ken Cobb and Mary Ann Compton and her husband Will. Her 10 great-grandchildren are Chris, Ashley and Adam Dossenbach, Allison Banks, McKeller and Marleigh Normann, Carolina Cobb and James Webb, Peter and Anna Compton. Her nephew, Robert W. Moore, and nieces, Florence Ann Tucker and Mary Jo Kennedy, also survive.
The family appreciates the compassionate care provided by Parkview employees and other caregivers during the past five years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Boys and Girls Club of Sanford/Lee County, 1414 Bragg St., Sanford, N.C. 27330, or to St. Luke United Methodist Church building fund, 2916 Wicker St., Sanford, N.C. 27330.
The family will receive friends immediately after the service.
Arrangements are by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

DEBORAH WILSON
SANFORD - Deborah Oldham Wilson, 52, of Sanford, died Saturday (4/03/04) at Duke University Medical Center.
A native of Sanford, she was preceded in death by her father, Lacy T. Oldham Sr. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, John A. Wilson Jr.; a daughter, Wendy Odessa Wilson of Sanford; a son, John Stephen Wilson of Sanford; her mother, Odessa Neal Oldham of Sanford; sisters, Barbara Sue McNeill and husband Charles of Sanford, Lou Ann Cline and husband Joe of West End, and Dawn Oldham Tripp and husband Gerald of Sanford; a brother, Lacy T. Oldham Jr. and wife Betty of Sanford; and a grandson and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Eric Porterfield. Burial followed in Buffalo Cemetery.
Rosemary Parten played the piano and guitarist was Ryan Barbato.
Pallbearers were Lamar Beach, Billy Parten, Michael Sharp, Thomas Sharp, Gary White and Cecil Wicker.

PAUL AMSPAUGH
LILLINGTON - Paul R. Amspaugh, 64, of Lillington, died Monday (4/5/04) at home.
He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and was a former resident of Payne, Ohio.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Northview Baptist Church in Fayetteville by Pastor Brooks Grimes Jr.
He is survived by daughters, Deborah High and husband Michael of Lillington and Theresa Determeyer of Hope Well, Va.; a son, Paul R. Amspaugh Jr. of Payne, Ohio; a sister, Ethel Davis of Lima, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

NESTER L'HEUREUX
CAMERON - Nestor Joseph L'Heureux, 82, of Cameron, died Saturday (4/3/04) at home.
A native of Meriden, Conn., he was a son of the late Louis and Josie Stiegler L'Heureux. He was an Army veteran and a pilot in World War II.
Services will be held at a later date.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne L'Heureux; a son, Nester J. L'Heureux Jr. of Long Island, N.Y.; a stepson, Alexander Balzano of Cameron; daughters, Charlene Partyka of Washington state, Penny Sult of Florida and Renee Batignani of Connecticut; stepdaughter, Jennifer Rosser and husband Carey of Sanford; sisters, Loraine Miglione of Meriden, Conn., Marie Bell of Middletown, Conn., and Peg Long of Wallingford, Conn.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Miller-Boles Funeral Home of Sanford.

ALBERT SCHMIDT
SYKESVILLE, Md. - Albert A. Schmidt, 85, of Sykesville, Md., formerly of Sanford, N.C., died Wednesday (3/31/04).
A native of Iowa, he was a son of the late Gerhardt and Martha Broener Smith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Schmidt.
He had been a technical manager with IBM. He served with the Army Air Corps during World War II. He had been a resident of Carolina Trace until 1998.
Funeral service was held Tuesday in the Memorial Chapel at Fort Meyer, Va. Inurnment followed in the columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery.
He is survived by sons, Gary D. Schmidt and wife Lin of Iamsville, Md., and Paul D. Schmidt and wife Bernadine of Catonsville, Md.; a daughter, Pamela J. Teske of Trenton, N.J.; sisters, Gladys Christianson of Estoria, S.D., and Delores Atyeo of Clear Lake, S.D.; and four grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be made to Lutheran World Relief.
Arrangements were by Haight Funeral Home & Chapel.
