SANFORD - Puzie D. Lett, 85, of 1996 Buckhorn Road died Saturday (7/31/04) at home.
The son of the late W.P. and Verter Cox Lett, he was born in Moore County and was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of Moore Union Christian Church and a former farmer and carpenter.
He is survived by wife Ruby Knight Lett of the home; daughters AlexSandra Lett of Sanford and Carolyn McNeill and husband Pete of Broadway; son James D. Lett and wife Sharon of Sanford; brother Gilbert Lett of Sanford; sisters Esther Yarborough of Pittsboro, Cleo Byrd and Selma Cummings of Lillington and Violet Gilmore of Sanford; grandchildren William D. Lett and wife Kim, Wayne Lett and wife Emily, Todd McNeill and wife Tracy, and Mark McNeill and wife Samantha; and great grandchildren Chelsy Lett, Jared Lett, Joshua Lett, Tyler Lett, Jacob McNeill, Gavin McNeill, Jackson McNeill and Bryson McNeill.
Funeral will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Moore Union Christian Church by the Revs. David Yarborough and Gary Moore. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled for 7 to 9 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home in Broadway and other times at the family home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Moore Union Church Building Fund.
Arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home of Broadway.

LATTIE McDONALD
DUNN - Lattie A. McDonald, 89, of Dunn, died Monday (8/2/04) at Betsy Johnson Memorial Hospital in Dunn.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, James Archie Gregory and Thomas Matthew McDonald. She worked 10 years at Good Hope Hospital as a dietician.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the O'Quinn-Peebles Chapel by the Rev. Sherrill Pope and the Rev. Cary Watkins. Burial will follow in Prospect FWB Church cemetery.
Surviving are a son, Danny Gregory and wife Ann of Dunn; a sister, Lillian Harrellson of Erwin; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the home of Danny and Ann Gregory.

BERNICE MASHBURN
CARTHAGE - Bernice Dexter Mashburn, 73, of 2287 Old Glendon Road, died Saturday (7/31/04) at his home.
A native of Moore County, he was a retired carpenter and a former policeman in Carthage.
Funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Horseshoe Presbyterian Church, where he was a member, by the Rev. James MacKenzie, the Rev. Allen Mashburn and Dr. L. Melvin Williamson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Surviving are wife, France Boyte Mashburn; a son, Ray Mashburn of Carthage; a brother, Roy Mashburn of Carthage; a granddaughter; and four great-grandsons.
Friends may call on the family at the home.

KATHERINE RAMSEY
NEW HILL - Katherine Marie Ramsey, 60, of 9328 Barker Road, New Hill, died Monday (8/2/04) after a long illness.
She was a seamstress for the Apex Manufacturing Company for many years.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Apex Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ray Wickham. Burial will follow in the New Hill Baptist Church cemetery.
Surviving are husband, James Ramsey of the home; daughters, Debbie Pauley and husband Gregory and Teresa Ramsey and husband David, all of New Hill; a son, Gerald W. Ramsey and wife Peggy of New Hill; a sister, Minnie Williford of New Hill; and six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Apex Funeral Home, 511 W. Williams St., N.C. Hwy. 55, Apex, N.C., 27502.

MARIE BRUCE
SANFORD - Ellie "Marie" Bruce, 62, of Sanford, died Sunday at her home.
Born in Onslow County, she was a daughter of the late Joe and Ellie Stewart Gordon.
Graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Buffalo Cemetery.
Surviving are husband, Rodney M. Bruce; daughters, Cindra Bruce and Sandra B. Cline and husband Mark, all of Sanford; brothers, Elvin Gordon and Steve Gordon, both of Sanford; and two grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Community Home Care and Hospice, 1602 Westover Drive, Sanford, N.C. 27330.
Arrangements are by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

MARGARET BARKER
SANFORD - Graveside service for Margaret Poole Barker, who died Thursday (7/29/04), was held Sunday at Buffalo Cemetery by the Rev. Stephen Burrow.
Soloist and guitarist was Mike Marion.
Arrangements were by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

NICHOLAS MURCHISON
SANFORD - Funeral for Nicholas Sherrod Murchison, 20, who died July 26 at Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, was held Saturday at Cameron Grove A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Scripture readings were by the Rev. Edna West and the Rev. Eudora Womack. Prayer was given by Dr. Walter Mack. Acknowledgments were by Minnie Ragland. Latosha Murchison gave a sister's tribute. The Rev. Chalmers McDougald gave the eulogy.
Music was by Cameron Grove Church Choir, Inspirational Voices of Winston-Salem State University and Union Memorial Baptist Church. Minister Kevin Scott played the keyboard. Organist was Chris Coleman. Drummer was Braxton O'Neal. Courtney Cuthrell played the bongoes.
Floral bearers were Sabrina Chalmers, LaTonya Chalmers, Monica Pearson, Danielle Pearson, Chanielle Broughton, Lateesha McIver, Shaylena Wood and Patrice Martin. Pallbearers were Sherrod Wood, Jason A. Lewis, Kendric R. Parks, Kasseem Smith, Tony Caldwell and Denise Martin. Honorary pallbearers were Anthony Prince, Taff Homes, Robert Holmes and Roemaya Holmes.

MYRTLE GIFT
SANFORD - Funeral for Myrtle Levada Douglas Matthews Gift, 97, was held Monday at First Baptist Church by the Rev. Eric Porterfield and the Rev. Del Parkerson. Burial followed in Buffalo Cemetery with burial rites by the Order of the Eastern Star.
Soloist was the Rev. Sharon Howell UpDyke. The congregation also sang. Organist was Susan Gaster.
Pallbearers were Ted Lanier, Merritt Robinson, Max Holt, Harold Ausley, Ralph Fields and Paul Thomas.

SARAH MANSFIELD
BROADWAY - Sarah C. Mansfield, of 200 Mansfield Drive, Broadway, died Monday (8/2/04) at Moore Regional Hospital.
Arrangements are pending by Smith Funeral Home in Broadway.

LYNN MANN
LILLINGTON - Dr. Lynn S. Mann, 71, died Tuesday (8/10/04) at his home.
He was a native of Lillington and the son of the late H. Clarence and Mamie Senter Mann. After graduating from Lillington High School, he attended the University of North Carolina. He graduated from UNC Dental School and returned to Lillington, where he practiced dentistry for 30 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Spivey Woodworth Mann, brothers, Roger and Sam Mann and sisters, Willa Mann McGehee, Hazel M. Holloway and Virgie M. Betts. He served in several civic organizations including the Lions and Booster clubs. He was a member of the Lillington Town Board and served as mayor of Lillington in 1973. He was a lifelong member of the Lillington Presbyterian Church.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today at Lillington Presbyterian Church by Dr. William Goodnight. Burial will follow in Harnett Memorial Park.
Surviving are wife, Rebecca M. Mann of the home; daughters, Cynthia M. Johnson and husband Mark and Marcia M. Kelly and husband Chris, all of Fuquay-Varina; sons, Christopher L. Mann and wife Rosemary of Leland and A. Boyce Mann and wife Lawanda of St. Simon's Island, Ga.; a sister, Louise Johnson of Lillington; a brother, Rex Mann of Sanford; and seven grandchildren.
Memorial gifts may be made to Lillington Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 245, Lillington, N.C., 27546 or to Hospice of Harnett County, P.O. Box 373, Erwin, N.C., 28339.

BEAMON WEBSTER
BEAR CREEK - Beamon W. Webster, 97, of 1427 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, died Wednesday (8/11/04) at Sun Bridge Care Facilities in Siler City.
She was a native of Chatham County, a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Chatham County Schools as a cafeteria worker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy S. Webster.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Bear Creek Baptist Church, 1278 Bonlee-Carbonton Road by the Rev. Bob Wachs. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
She is survived by a son, Clyde Thomas Webster of Bear Creek; sisters, Ruth Brown of Siler City and Mozelle Steele of Greensboro; brothers, Rex Wilkie of Bear Creek, and Lacy and Billie Wilkie of Siler City; three grandchildren and a granddaugter-in-law.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 N. Second Ave., Siler City.

EDWARD CAPPS
SANFORD - Ernest Edward Capps, 87, of Sanford, died Tuesday (8/10/04) at Central Carolina Hospital.
A native of Johnston County, he was a son of the late Ernest Milton and Mittie Ellen Allen Capps. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eula Mae Hall Capps and sons, Clarence Capps and Leonard Hall. He was a retired machinist in the electronics business and was farmer.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home Chapel in Benson by the Revs. Don Daniel and Ira Sutton. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson.
He is survived by a special friend, Sandra Olinger of Sanford; daughters, Joyce Cox, Frances Brown and Judy Hanks, all of Sanford and Ella Mae Dowdy of Midland; sons, James Capps of Hampstead, Kenneth Capps, Linwood Capps and Curtis Capps, all of Wilson, Donal Capps of Olivia; a sister, Bedie Young of Raleigh; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson.
