MINNIE WOOD
SANFORD - Minnie L. Wood, 85, of 612 Rose St., died Friday (5/30/03) at Central Carolina Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. There will be no wake. Burial will be in Lee Memory Garden.
She is survived by three adopted daughters: Rebecca Upchurch, Margaret Johnson Carter and Brenda Fuller, all of Sanford; two sisters: Alma White and Kitty McLean, both of Sanford; four brothers: Winston Upchurch of Durham; Claude Upchurch Jr. and wife Lillie, Melvin Upchurch and wife Tamer, and Jason Upchurch and wife Rebecca, all of Sanford.
Arrangements are by Knotts Funeral Home.

ELEANOR BURNS
SANFORD - Services were conducted Saturday for Eleanor Poe Burns, 85, of Cumnock, who died Wednesday (5/28/03). The services were at Cumnock Union Church, United Methodist, by the Rev. Dr. Vernon Tyson and the Rev. Jack Phillips. Burial followed at Grace Chapel Cemetery.
Soloists for the service were Jonathan Burns and Shatauka Hall Johnson.
Pallbearers were John Burch, Ronnie Currin, Johnnie Hall, Bruce Morgan, Mike Moretz, Anthony Poe, Horace Salmon and Joe Spivey.
Arrangements were by Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home.

MRS. ELMER WILLIAMS
DURHAM - Mrs. Elmer Chalmers Williams, 97, of 207 Lawson St., formerly of Sanford, died Tuesday (5/27/03) at Durham Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at St. Mark A.M.E. Zion Church by the Rev. Avery Brown. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. prior to the service.
Arrangements are by Burthey Funeral Service.

CHARLES HEADEN JR.
SOUTHERN PINES -Charles Clinton Headen Jr., 37, of 152 Wooster Road, died Thursday (5/29/03) on Barbecue Church Road in Sanford.
Arrangements are incomplete with Watson Mortuary.

MONCURE - Curtis Gunter, of Moncure, died Friday (5/30/03) at Central Carolina Hospital.

THOMAS TIERNEY
SANFORD - A Celebration of Life memorial service for Thomas Gerald Tierney, 78, was held at the Carolina Trace Country Club on Thursday.
The service was led by Jack Beyer. Words of remembrance were given by Jack Beyer, Harry Undy, Robert Bock, Peg Tierney and Tom Tierney.
Judy Colwell was pianist and Barbara Allan was soloist. The service concluded with a favorite World War II song of the deceased.
A service with military honors will be held at St. Joseph's cemetery in River Grove, Ill., on June 28.
Arrangements were by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

ALLIE BASS
LANSING, Mich. - Allie Bruce Bass, 51, of Lansing, formerly of Coats, N.C., died Monday (5/26/03), at Pine Health Care Center of Lansing.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Coats Cemetery.
He is survived by a daughter, Tina M. Hilliker of Onaway, Mich; sisters, Vicki Jordan of Garner, N.C., and Carolyn Perry of Coats; a brother, Donnie Bass of Stokesdale, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. Thursday at O'Quinn-Peebles Funeral Home, Sanford, N.C.

THOMAS TIERNEY
SANFORD - Thomas Gerald Tierney, 78, of 517 Argyll Drive, died Monday (5/26/03) at home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Carolina Trace Country Club.
Lunch will follow at noon at the Carolina Trace Country Club.
Arrangements are by Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

LENZIE JOHNSON JR.
NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Lenzie Johnson Jr., formerly of Cameron, N.C., died Sunday (5/25/03) in New Rochelle.
Arrangements are incomplete with Watson Mortuary.

FRANCES DOUGLAS
SANFORD - Frances Gertrude Tucker Douglas, 78, of 62 St. Andrews Church Road, died Sunday (5/25/03) at FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital.
Born in Surry County, she was the daughter of the late John Henry Tucker and Hattie Cooper Tucker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyd Quintus Douglas.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home by the Rev. Robert Hagerty and Phil Thomas. Burial will follow in Grace Chapel cemetery.
Surviving are a brother, Howard Tucker and wife Boots of Sanford; a sister, Mae T. Vaughn Kellam and husband John of Kure Beach; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

BEN CAMERON
ARLINGTON, Texas - Ben F. "Frank" Cameron, 81, of Grand Prairie, Texas, died Friday (5/23/03) in Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly; a son; two daughters; three grandchildren; a brother, James Cameron of Cameron; a nephew and three nieces.
Graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at DFW National Cemetery in Dallas. Arrangements are by Arlington Funeral Home.

JAMES MORRIS
SOUTHERN PINES - James C. Morris, 80, of Raeford, formerly of Southern Pines, died Saturday (5/24/03) at Autumn Care of Raeford.
Surviving are his wife, Inez Morris; sons, James Allen Morris and Jesse Morris, both of Raeford; daughters, Rebecca Crocker of Manassas, Va., and Janie Mae Stubbs of Aberdeen; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in the Addor community. Burial will follow in the Wayne Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Pugh Funeral Home.

ANDREW PALMER
SANFORD - Andrew Palmer Sr., 81, of 740 Tempting Church Road, died Saturday (5/24/03) at home.
Surviving are his wife, Ophelia N. Palmer; children, Carol Taitt and husband Selwyn of Sanford, Andrew Palmer Jr. and wife Gloria of Taunton, Mass., Barry Palmer and Cleveland Palmer, both of Sanford, Marcia Palmer Minor and husband Oliver of Upper Marlboro, Md., Miriam Palmer Foy of Richmond, Va., Raynard Palmer and wife Helena of Fort Belvoir, Va., Horace Palmer and wife Lynette of Holly Springs, and Roy Hubbard of Connecticut; a brother, James "Fox" Palmer of Sanford; a sister, Ada P. Clegg of Anchorage, Alaska; 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Tempting Congregational Church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Knotts Funeral Home.

JAMES TIMMONS
PITTSBORO - James Joseph "Joey" Timmons III, 15, of 125 Thrift St., died Sunday (5/25/03) at his home.
The son of Susan Brown Timmons and James J. Timmons II, he had been a student at Perry Harrison School and had just completed ninth grade.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Matthew Aaron Timmons; paternal grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. Robert Lansing Timmons of Bald Head Island; and grandmother Joan Becker Timmons of Chapel Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the United Church of Chapel Hill, 1321 Airport Road, Chapel Hill.
Memorial gifts may be made to the Division of Hematology, Oncology, Department of Pediatrics, UNC Hospital, Chapel Hill.
