Eula Craft
CHARLOTTE — Eula Mae Falls Craft, of 10528 Moore’s Chapel Road, died July 29, 2003. A graveside service was held today at 11 a.m. at St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. today at Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church, where she was a member. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m.
Born in Spartanburg County, SC she was employed by Vision Hosiery as a seamstress.
Survivors include her husband, William B. Craft of the home; one daughter, Anita Stafford of Concord; one brother, James Falls of Dallas and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Mecklenburg County, 1420 E. Seventh St., Charlotte, NC 28204 or Garden Memorial Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 2324 Sam Wilson Road, Charlotte, NC 28214.

George Russell
George William Russell, 62, of 129 Abernathy St., died July 30, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Ebony & White’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service in the chapel.
Born in Alamance County, he was retired from Southfork Industries and attended Archie Grove United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Vera Cobb Russell of the home; two daughters, Lesia Neal Rivers of Burlington and Katrina Russell of Lincolnton; three brothers, Ralph Russell of Lincolnton, Howard Russell of Morrisville and Harold Russell Jr. of Gibonsville; one sister, Josephine Shaw of Burlington and four grandchildren, Krystal Neal, Nicholas Neal, Summer Rivers and Caleb Russell.

Alvin Cook
VALE — Alvin Jessie Cook, 81, of 4267 Wise Road, died July 31, 2003. Funeral services will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Zion Hill Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Zion Hill Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 tonight at Stamey Funeral Home.
Born in Catawba County, he was retired from North Hickory Furniture Company and was a former deacon at Zion Hill Baptist Church, trustee and member of the brotherhood.
Survivors include two sons, Cecil Cook and Ralph Cook both of Vale; one daughter, Linda Bryson of Kings Mountain; three sisters, Joan Sigmon of Burnesville, Lucille Wagner of Conover and Alta Sailors of Statesville; six grandchildren, Greg Cook, Scottie Cook, Paula Moss, Wesley Cook, Lee Dixon and Whitney Cook and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Zion Hill Baptist Church Relief Fund, 7208 Old Hwy. 18, Lawndale, NC 28090.

Lucille White
MORGANTON — Fannie Lucille White, 87, of Poteat St., died July 30, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at New Home United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service.
Born in Cleveland County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include numerous cousins and friends.

Lois Benfield
STANLEY — Lois A. Benfield, 68, of 1205 Mariposa Road, died July 31, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday immediately preceding the service at the funeral home.
Born in Gaston County, she was retired from the textile profession and a homemaker. She was a member of New Life Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John H. Benfield Jr.; two daughters, Vickie B. Hoffman of Gastonia and Wanda Boggs of Alexis; three sons, Ronnie Abernathy of Blacksburg, SC, Ricky Benfield of Mt. Holly and Brian Benfield of Belmont; one brother, Jimmy Abernathy of Cherryville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Jessie Paysour
NEBO — Jessie Branson Paysour, 95, of McDowell Nursing Home, died July 31, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Eastview Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Sunday at funeral home prior to the service.
Born in Gaston County, he was retired from the furniture industry.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Paysour of Nebo; four step-sons, Robert Martin of Suwanee, Ga., James Martin of Black Shear,
Ga., Mitchell Martin of Orlando, Fla. and Thomas Martin of Raleigh, NC and one step-daughter, Edith Martin of Lincolnton.

Bobby Willis
CHERRYVILLE — Bobby Gene Willis, 59, of 829 Old Stubbs Road, died August 5, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Knob Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, he was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, former minister and house mover.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Cook Willis of the home; two sons, Bobby Willis Jr. and Johnny Willis both of Cherryville; two daughters, Rita Lovelace of Cherryville and Sheila Willis of Gastonia; two sisters, Frances Page of Cherryville and Eva Patterson of Kings Mountain; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

William Murray
IRON STATION — William Roy Murray Sr., 61, of 3263 Keever Dairy Road, died August 5, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Salem Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Burke County, he was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired electrical engineer.
Survivors include two sons, William R. Murray Jr. of Norfolk, Va. and Ernest Murray of Greenville, SC; one sister, Corenia Trent of Lincolnton and two grandchildren, Chance Murray and Matthew Murray.

Dorothy Keever
Dorothy B. Keever, 71, of 112 Saddletree Road, died August 5, 2003. The family will receive friends today at her home.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Cammie Walston of Wilmington; one son, Thomas Keever of Chapel Hill; two grandchildren, Joshua Walston and Caitlin Scurria; one brother, Jim Beal of Lincolnton and former husband, Tommy Keever.

HICKORY — Susan Conlon Saunders, 42, of 3858 22nd St. NE, died August 6, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Born in Queens, NY, she was a teacher at Clyde Campbell Elementary School.
Survivors include her husband, Bryan David Saunders of the home; mother, Mary Jane Patton and husband James of Hickory; grandmother, Mary Avigone of Franklin; two brothers, David Conlon of Fletcher and Chris Conlon of Phoenix, Az.; one sister, Debbie Hopkins of Hickory and one step-brother, Darren Patton of Gastonia.

ALEXIS — Bonnie Heafner Morrison, 85, of Mt. Zion Church Road, died August 6, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a homemaker and worked in the sewing and hosiery industries.
Survivors include one son, Randy Morrison of Alexis; one daughter, Kay Golden of Charlotte; two brothers, John Wesley Heafner and Frank Heafner both of Crouse; two sisters, Rachel Shuford of Bessemer City and Margaret Craig of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Virginia Young, Billy Golden, Charles Golden, Ann Zimmer and Maria Morrison and seven great-grandchildren.

Lavada Pope
NEWTON — Lavada Pope, 93, of 406 E. 21st St., died August 6, 2003. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairgrove United Methodist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 tonight at Burke Mortuary.
She was born in Catawba County.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.

Linda Lewis
HENDERSON — Linda Louise VanWort Lewis, 56, of 97 Vincent-Hoyle Road, died August 6, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday at JM White Funeral Home.
Born in Suffern County, NY, she was President and co-founder of Joe Lewis Mobile Home Moving and Service, Inc., and was a member of the All For Him Sunday School Class.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Levon “Joe” Lewis of the home; father, Hubert VanWort of Stony Point; step-father, William James “Bill” Coulter of Lincolnton; two daughters, Sherry Burgess and Sandra Bloss both of Henderson; one son, Joseph “Buddy” Lewis Jr. of Henderson; four grandchildren, Amanda Burgess, Charlie Burgess Jr., Kristen Lewis and Jessica Lewis; one step-grandson, Anthony Bloss and two brothers, Hubert VanWort Jr. and James Coulter both of Henderson.

Born in Cleveland County, he was retired from Valdese Dry Cleaners, a member of the Masonic Lodge #579, 32nd Scottish Rite and South Mountain Shrine Club.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Botts of the home; one brother, WC Botts of Casar; and four sisters, Mary Lou Ennis of Merritt Island, Fla., Billie Bridges and Dororthy Norman both of Valdese and Johnnie Norman of Boiling Springs.
