MAIDEN - Ruby Elizabeth Turbyfill, 73, of 4527 S. Olivers Crossroads, died Oct. 28, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Center View Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at the church.
Born in Catawba County, she was retired from Carolina Glove Mill.
Survivors include her mother, Nora Abernathy Turbyfill of Maiden; and three sisters, Barbara Huffman of Maiden, Nancy Munday and Benita Burris, both of Newton.
Memorials may be made to Baptist Children’s Home of N.C., P.O. Box 338, Thomasville, N.C. 27361-0338; or Gideons International, P.O. Box 807, Newton, N.C. 28658.

Farrell Willis
CHERRYVILLE - Farrell Eugene Willis, 73, of 401 W. Academy St., died Oct. 28, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hulls Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was self-employed and formerly employed with Sparta Security at Duke Power’s McGuire Plant.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise Thornburg Willis; a daughter, Lynn Sigmon of Hickory; two sons, Dennis Eugene Willis of Maiden and Randy Willis of Vale; three sisters, Claire Leonhardt and Jo Goforth, both of Charlotte, and Helen Brymer of Concord; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Sarah Nance
NEWTON - Sarah Christine McFarland Nance, 76, of 1938 Jenkins Printing Dr., died Oct. 27, 2001. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Mays Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at Burke Mortuaries.
She worked for Carolina Glove Mill until her retirement.
Survivors include two daughters, Clara Cook of Newton and Peggy Darnell of Startown; two sisters, Dorothy Overcash of Spartanburg and Carrie Sigmon of Newton; six grandchildren, Michael Darnell, Jennifer Darnell Drum, Dede Darnell, Sara Darnell, Kevin Cook and Shelley Cook; and one great-grandson.

Kermit Beal
MAIDEN - Kermit “Bud” Franklin Beal, 71, of 4119 Buffalo Shoals Rd., died Oct. 27, 2001. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today in Burke Mortuaries Chapel. Burial will follow in St. Matthews United Church of Christ Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 today at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked for Carolina Mills until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth R. Beal; two daughters, Freda Beal Dellinger of Terrell and Myra Beal Coffey of Hickory; a step-son, Donald Cox of Maiden; a step-daughter, Donna Cox Carpenter of Charlotte; one sister, Joyce H. Elmore of Maiden; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one step-granddaughter.

Ellen Cobb
DENVER - Ellen Simpson “Noochie” Culp Cobb, 67, formerly of Salisbury, died Oct. 25, 2001. A graveside service was held at 4 p.m. Sunday in Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Salisbury.
Born in Rowan County, she was a member of St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Gold Hill and was retired from Siegling America.
Survivors include one son, James Thomas Culp of Denver; three daughters, Karen Aldridge of Summerfield, Shelia Lee of Salisbury and Tracie Williams of Shelby; one sister, Martha Myrick of Knoxville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, N.C. 27405.

Ellen Hull
Ellen Abernathy Hull, 86, of Cardinal Health Care, died Oct. 30, 2001. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. today in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Charlotte.
Born in Mecklenburg County, she was the owner of a mobile home park until retirement.
Survivors include a number of nieces and nephews.

James Jones
POLKVILLE - James Lee Jones, 64, of 164 London Rd., died Oct. 28, 2001. A funeral service was held Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel. Burial followed in Joy Baptist Church Cemetery in Buckingham, Va.
He was a native of Buckingham, Va.

Billy W. McAlister, 73, of 455 McAlister Rd., died Oct. 28, 2001.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Warlick Funeral Home.

Wayne McAlister
B. Wayne McAlister, 73, of 455 McAlister Rd., died Oct. 28, 2001. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a dairy farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Schronce McAlister; two sons, Kenneth McAlister of Belmont and Ronnie McAlister of Lincolnton; two sisters, Ruth Shuford of Lincolnton and Alda Gabriel of Sherrills Ford; and three grandchildren, Ronald “Mac” McAlister, Mindy McAlister and Callie McAlister.

Born in Catawba County, she was a member of the Church of Living God BWC #9 in Lincolnton.
Survivors include three daughters, Tiechia Shante Mack of Maiden, Titla Annette Mack and Julie Monique Mack, both of Hickory; two brothers, John Mack Jr. and Russell Mack, both of Maiden; and six sisters, Gloria M. McCleave of Maiden, Phyllis M. Richard of Taylorsville, Ruby M. Woods of Newton, Linda M. Pyant of Conover, Roslyn M. Simmons, and Pricsilla Mack, both of Philadelphia, Pa.

Gabriel Savage
Gabriel Paul Savage, infant son of Paul Jonathan and Amy Heavner Savage, of 2566 E. Hwy. 150, died Oct. 29, 2001. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Gaston Memorial Park’s Babyland. The family will receive friends following the service.
Survivors include his parents; grandparents, Sonny and Jane Savage of Bessemer City and Jay and Millie Heavner of Gastonia; and great-grandparents, Ellen Mull of Lincolnton and Thurman and Alice Smith of Newton.

Martin Sand
VALE - Martin Allen Sand, 46, of 7387 Ed Willis Rd., died Oct. 29, 2001. No formal service was held.
Born in Bucyrus, Ohio, he served in the U.S. Navy and worked as an electronics technician.
Survivors include his daughter, Jennifer Culver of Joplin, Mo.; his mother and step-father, Carol and Dave Graetz of Vale; a sister, Jeri Ballard of Morganton; and two grandchildren.

Born in Catawba County, she was a former salesclerk with Dellinger’s Department Store.
Survivors include a son, Robert Lineberger of Newton; two sisters, Jane Hefner of Maiden and Josephine Reinhardt of Newton; one brother, Roby Wilson of Maiden; two grandchildren, Victor Lineberger and Keeley Stikeleather; and four great-grandchildren.

Born in Gaston County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, James Gold; a son, James Marvin Gold of Mt. Holly; a daughter, Melissa Campbell of Lincolnton; two sisters, Betty S. Shelby of Mt. Holly and Janet S. Horne of Salisbury, Md.; a brother, Bill Sisk of Cliffside; and three grandchildren, Laura Campbell, Lee Campbell and Alex Gold.

Martin, II of Gastonia, Alan Lee Martin and Glen Alan Martin, both of Lincolnton; three daughters, Cathy Lineberger and Lou Ann Goff, both of Lincolnton, and Rosemary Hires of Jesup, Ga.; four brothers, Joey Sikes of Hineville, Ga., Lloyd Sikes and Jerry Sikes, both of Pembroke, Ga., and Carl Sikes of Claxton, Ga.; 11 grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
