NEWTON - Lisa Hovis Wireman, 43, of 4044 Little Mountain Road, died Jan. 17, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at the church.
Born in Catawba County, she was active in the youth ministry at her church and taught Sunday School for a number of years. She was a Certified Nursing Assistant at Abernathy Retirement Center and was a member of the Newton-Conover Rescue Squad Ladies Auxiliary.
Survivors include her husband, Mark Wireman; two sons, Matthew Wireman and Andrew Wireman of the home; her mother, Patricia Hovis of Newton; a sister, Pam Hovis Wilkinson of Newton; and her grandmother, Lyda Hovis of Newton.
Memorials may be made to Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church Youth Fund, 3273 Mt. Ruhama Church Road, Maiden, N.C. 28650.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends 90 minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a truck driver for Rhodes and Beal Oil Company for over 40 years. He was a member of Loray Baptist Church and Sunday School class.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Keever Hinkle; a son, Randolph “Randy” A. Hinkle of Gastonia; a daughter, Elizabeth McElroy of Titusville, Fla.; three brothers, Tommy D. Hinkle and Dale E. Hinkle, both of Lincolnton, and Joe B. Hinkle of Simpsonville, S.C.; two sisters, Louise H. Harbinson of Maiden and Evie H. Hartman of Lincolnton; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Loray Baptist Church, 1128 West Franklin Blvd., Gastonia, N.C. 28052.

Lois Ballard
Lois Steele Davis Ballard, 89, of 240 Salem Church Road, died Jan. 17, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 3:30 today at the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Born in Cleveland County, she was retired from retail sales and was a lifelong member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Rhonda Hedspeth and Lillie Mae Ballard, both of Charlotte, and Elizabeth Dalton of Aventura, Fla.; a brother, Dewey Davis of Charlotte; two grandsons; and five great-grandchildren.

Eva Mae Wilson
KANNAPOLIS - Eva Mae Walter Wilson, 93, formerly of Broad St., died Jan. 12, 2003. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Born in Cabarrus County, she was a retired nursing assistant at Oakdale Nursing Home in Concord.

Tom Martin Sr.
MAIDEN - Herbert “Tom” Thomas Martin Sr., 73, of 1007 East Klutz St., died Jan. 20, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, he was a former supervisor with Ethan Allen Furniture.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy J. Martin; a son, Herb Martin of Maiden; two daughters, Jan Detter of Winston Salem and Penny Rummage of Maiden; two sisters, Ruth Queen and Lucille Ward both of Maiden; five grandchildren, Ryan Sigmon, Brandy Sigmon, Zoe Detter, Zachary Martin, and Lexi Martin; two step grandchildren; and three step great-grandchildren.

LAWNDALE - Ashley Monique Randall, infant daughter of Jeremiah Daniel Randall and Christina Knight Randall, of 223 New Bethel Church Road, died Jan. 19, 2003. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Charity Baptist Church Cemetery.
In addition to her parents, survivors include her grandparents, Dan and Dora Randall of Phoenix, Ariz., and Rita and Dwight Watts of Fallston; and her great-grandparents, Elliott and Rita Seetin of Phoenix, Ariz. and Medora Knight of Maiden.

Dorothy Sellers
BESSEMER CITY - Dorothy Sue Martin Sellers, 85, of 3017 Tryon Courthouse Road, died Jan. 20, 2003. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at Shady Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member.
Born in Gaston County, she formerly owned and operated a day care and taught kindergarten in Charlotte.
Survivors include her husband, Benjamin S. Sellers; a son, Roger Sellers of Mooresville; a brother, Garland Martin of Kings Mountain; a sister, Jeanette Neill of High Point; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Joseph Saunders
Joseph Grandville Saunders, 19, of 2481 Lake St., died Jan. 20, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Saunders Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 tonight at the funeral home.
He was born in Bluefield, W.Va.
Survivors include his mother and father, Larry and Sharon Saunders; two brothers, Matthew Saunders and Abram Saunders, both of Lincolnton; two sisters, Stephanie Saunders of Ohio and Beth Williams of Hickory; and his grandparents, Dave and Elizabeth Saunders of Warwest, Va., and Jack and Shirley Johnson of Laurens, S.C.

Claude Mauney
Claude J. Mauney, 76, 173 Salem Church Road, died Jan. 21, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was retired from Burlington Industries as a truck driver and worked part-time at Griffin Motors and Allied Mfg. He was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran.
Survivors include his wife Barbara B. Mauney; two daughters, Gail Little of Lincolnton and Kathey Cox of Romeoville, Ill.; two sons, Jay Mauney and Jeff Mauney, both of Lincolnton; a brother, Raymond Mauney of Robbinsville; two sisters, Katherine Carpenter of Lincolnton and Lois Huss of Cherryville; eight grandchildren, Danielle Little, Jessica Little, Stephanie Rosser, Christopher Rosser, Tyler Cox, Evan Cox, Jason Huitt, and Bryan Huitt; and two great-grandchildren.

Charles Mauney
CHERRYVILLE - Charles Clyde Mauney, 78, of 113 Studio Drive, died Feb. 10, 2002. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in City Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a U.S. Army veteran, and worked for Carlton Mills in Cherryville until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby S. Mauney; two daughters, Judy Kiser of Lincolnton, and Diana Russ of Cherryville; two brothers, Glenn Mauney of Cherryville, and Hubert Mauney of Crouse; three sisters, Hazel Gantt, and Inez Johnson, both of Cherryville, and Ruby Gantt of Kings Mountain; and three grandchildren, Kim Kiser, Jay Kiser, and Mandy Russ.

Lillie Mosteller
MT.HOLLY - Lillie Rose Mosteller, 85, of the Wexford House, formerly of Mt. Holly, died Jan. 21, 2003. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Alexis.
Born in Gaston County, she worked in the textile industry.
Survivors include her husband, Walter D. Mosteller; two sons, Steve Norkett of Kings Mountain and Jimmy Norkett of Alexis; two daughters, Carol Lewis of Alexis and Jeanie Crawford of Stanley; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Edwin Howell
CHERRYVILLE - Edwin Glenn Howell, 75, of 111 Harrilson Road, died Jan. 20, 2003. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a retired brickmason with Hoyle Construction Company. He was the former Chairman of the Deacons at his church, a Sunday School teacher, an active member of the Larry Love witnessing organization and was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran.
Survivors include a son, Charlie E. Howell of Cherryville; two daughters, Helen H. Hovis of Vale and Lorra L. Howell of Cherryville; a brother, Dean Howell of Cherryville; two sisters, Ruth Queen of Hickory and Velma Sain of Lawndale; and four grandchildren, April Howell, Matthew Hovis, Mark Henkle and Andrew Henkle.

Denver Franklin Bailey, 82, of 1272 Rose Hill Drive, died Jan. 22, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Cabell County, West Va., he was a retired Cochrane Furniture maintenance supervisor.
Survivors include his wife Carrie Stiles Bailey; a son, James Franklin Bailey of Taylorsville, a daughter, Betty Lou Bailey of Iron Station; a sister, Elizabeth Bryan of Iron Station; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

William Ballentine
CHARLOTTE - William L. Ballentine, 76, died Jan. 21, 2003. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today at McEwen Charlotte Chapel. Interment followed in Forest Lawn West Cemetery.
Born in Savannah, Ga., he was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran.
Survivors include his wife Eva Nell Ballentine; three sons, Jim Ballentine of Houston, Texas, and Garry E. Ballentine and Larry E. Ballentine, both of Lincolnton; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
