DAVIDSON - Edward Champion Land Jr., 91, died Jan. 1, 2004. A graveside service was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Asheboro City Cemetery. A memorial service followed at 3 p.m. at First United Methdodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Land; one daughter, Christinanna Johnson of Wilmington; one son, Edward Land III of Statesville and five grandchildren, Anna Averitt, Allison Land, Emilie Land and Edward Land IV.
Memorials may be made to Joslyn Diabetes Center, One Joslyn Place, Boston, Mass. 02215 or charity of one’s choice.
Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro was in charge of arrangements.

Caroline Crumley
TARBORO - Caroline Crumley, 88, died Dec. 30, 2003. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Friday at Westminster Garden in Greensboro.
She was a member of Presbyterian Church of the Covenant.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Crumley of the home; two sons, Dr. Charles Crumley of Lincolnton and Robert Crumley of Rocky Mount; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Church of Covenant, 501 S. Mendenhall St., Greensboro, North Carolina 28658.

Paul McMurry
Paul Edward McMurry, 68, of 183 A. St., died Jan. 4, 2004. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a truck driver.
Survivors include his wife, Frankie McMurry of the home; two sons, Johnny Tindall and Wesley McMurry both of Lincolnton; two daughters, Paula Elgin of Dallas, North Carolina 28210.

Harry Allen
CHERRYVILLE - Harry Hampton Allen Jr., 81, of 805 Woodhaven Drive, died Jan. 4, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery.
Born in Cherryville, he was the retired owner and pharmacist of Allen Drug Company and was a member of the Cherryville Lions Club.
Survivors include his wife, Joan London Allen of the home; one son, Stan Allen of Cherryville; one daughter, Cindy Eaker of Cherryville; one brother, William Allen Sr. of Cherryville; one sister, Shirlee Marazza of Charlotte; five grandchildren, Jason Eaker, Christy Eaker, Jan Bowser, Rod Bowser and Jay Allen and one great-granddaughter.
Memorials may be made to Christian Outreach Center, 301 E. First St., Cherryville, North Carolina 28658.

Colleen Cook
LOWESVILLE - Colleen Anita Leonard Cook, 47, died Jan. 3, 2004. A celebration of life will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Drum Funeral Home Chapel in Conover. The family will receive friends following the celebration.
Born in Catawba County, she was formerly employed by Gaston Memorial Hospital and worked in landscaping.
Survivors include her parents, Eli and Alleen Lackey Leonard of Hiddenite; three sons, Gene Cook, Richard Cook and Jason Cook all of Lowesville; three grandchildren, Joshua Cook, Bryson Cook and Christopher Cook; one brother, Philip Leonard of Lowesville and her ex-husband, Tex Cook of Iron Station.
Memorials may be made in her name to the Myastinia Gravis Association of American, 1821 University Avenue W., Suite 256, St. Paul, Minn. 55104.

Charlie Mattox
Charlie Bennie Mattox, 59, of 2536 Salem Church Road, died Jan. 5, 2004. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. today in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Hovis Cemetery.
Born in Gaston County, he was employed by Timken and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda Mattox of the home; one son, Jeff Mattox; two daughters, Susan Lykins and Lisa Clemmer both of Dallas; his mother, Mary Frances Friday of Dallas; one sister, Libby Farmer of Dallas; four grandchildren, Ben Mattox, Michael Clemmer, Jonathan Clemmer and Suzanne Lykins.

Pathaniel Carson
HICKORY - Pathaniel “Tan” Nellie Ruth Carson, 69, of 933 2nd St., SW, died Jan. 1, 2004. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Morningstar First Baptist Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Southside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 tonight at Allen Mitchell Funeral Home in Hickory.
Born in Burke County, she was retired from Ellis Hosiery.
Survivors include four daughters, Patsy Setzer, Theresa Shade, Audrey Carson and Antrice Carson all of Hickory; two sons, Gregory Carson of Hickory and Christopher Carson of Mt. Airy; three granddaughters, Angela Casey, Sherry Saddler and Kimberly Shade; four grandsons, Sean Carson, Brandon Carson, Keon Carson and D’Andre Reid; two sisters, Marie Roy of Jamaica, NY and Vernia Hunter of Lincolnton and nine great-grandchildren.

Lucy Ward
STATESVILLE - Lucy Overcash Ward, 88, died Jan. 5, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Lake Norman Christian Ministries, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home in Mooresville.
Born in Iredell County, she was employed by Draymore Manufacturing and was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Gorman Ward of Mooresville; three daughters, Barbara Stevenson of Troutman, Dianne Cochran of Denver and Amanda Ward of Salisbury; five brothers, Robert Overcash, Homer Overcash, Max Overcash and Bud Overcash; four sisters, Marie Stutts, Nellie Johnson, Betty Bentley and Patricia Overcash; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Thelma Cannon
NEWTON - Thelma Gayle Cannon, 51, of 128 W. 15th St., died Jan. 7, 2004. A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Saturday at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
She was born in Caldwell County.
Survivors include two daughters, Dawn Hamilton and Cindy Frazie both of Newton; four sisters, Barbara Lutz of Maiden, Juanita Bolick of Newton, Betty Davis of North Carolina 27601.

SHERRILLS FORD - Keeva Jovan Hunt, 26, of 3453 Mt. Beulah Road, died Jan. 6, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Newton. Burial will follow at Mt. Beulah United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. Saturday at Burke Mortuary.
Born in Catawba County, she was employed by Balls Creek Head Start.
Survivors include her mother, Sharon Hunt of Claremont; father and step-mother, Bobby and Vivian Hunt of Claremont; one daughter, Kyndal Hunt of the home; four brothers, Steven Hunt of the home, Kensley Dalton of Statesville, Aaron Hunt and Corey Hunt both of Claremont; paternal grandparents Floyd and Jeanette Phillips of Catawba; maternal grandfather, Billy Gibbs of Lenoir and great-grandmother, Daisy Miller of Taylorsville.

Bonnie Hallman
CHERRYVILLE - Bonnie Lee Hallman, 72, of 406 S. Jacob St., died Jan. 7, 2004. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenters Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Cherryville City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, she was retired from Dora Yarn Mill and a member of Free Saints Chapel.
Survivors include four daughters, Robin Black of Waco, Patricia Hallman, Vickie Philbeck and Tammy Pruett all of Cherryville; one brother, Marvin Ray of Lincolnton; two sisters, Dorothy Ray and Barbara Johnson both of Lincolnton and three grandchildren, Amy Lackey, Ashley Lackey and Tyler Pruett.

Leck Ledford
HICKORY - Leck Ledford, 77, died Jan. 7, 2004. The Celebration of Life Service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Catawba Funerals and Cremations in Hickory. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 until 3 p.m. Saturday in The Celebration of Life Room at Catawba Funerals and Cremations.
Born in Lincoln County, he was retired from Winn-Dixie, served as a Naval Military Police and was a member of Unity Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ellen Elrod Ledford of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Ledford of Hickory; one brother, Robert Ledford of Vale and three sisters, Mozelle Shidel, Thelma Taylor and Laureen Lawing all of Lincolnton.
