MAIDEN - Fred C. Wise Jr., 72, of Claude Drive, died Feb. 12, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Maiden City Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8 at the funeral home.
Born in Catawba County, he was a member of Mays Chapel United Methodist Church, served in the U.S. Army, and worked in furniture manufacturing.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn C. Wise; one daughter, Terry W. Cooke of Maiden; one step-son, Eric Sipe of Maiden; one step-daughter, Vickie Helms of Newton; five brothers, David Wise and James Wise, both of Maiden, Paul Wise and Tommy Wise, both of Newton, and Charles Wise of Franklin; three sisters, Diane W. Williams of Maiden, Betty W. Painter and Jessie W. Cooke, both of Newton; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 320 1st Ave., N.W. Hickory, N.C. 28601.

Joann Martin
VALE - Joann Newton Martin, 65, of 1675 North Brook School III Road, died Feb. 11, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 at Stamey Funeral Home.
Born in Cleveland County, she worked for Health Care Services until retirement.
Survivors include one son, Farris Jr. Martin of Vale; two daughters, Sandra Taylor and Lavinia Ann Martin, both of Vale; two brothers, Ralph Newton, and Edgar Jr. Newton, both of Valdese; six sisters, Ruby Swafford of Morganton, Ethel Moses, Sue Walker and Mary Buff, all of Casar, Sara Crawley of Vale, and Marie Spade of Cherryville; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Robert Davis
VALE - Robert Hugh Davis, 83, of 1025 Rockdale Road, died Feb. 11, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Norman’s Grove Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 until 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked for Drexel Furniture in Morganton and as a farmer until retirement. He was also a charter member of his church’s Baptist Mens’ Brotherhood.
Survivors include his wife, Ola Mae King Davis; one son, Ronald “Ronnie” Hugh Davis of Vale; one daughter, Brenda Kay Munday of Vale; one sister, Madge Randall of Hickory; three grandchildren, Angelic Weaver, Jonathan Munday, and James Davis; and two great-grandchildren.

Tenie Goodson
MAIDEN - Tenie Melissie Goodson, 89, of Ivey Church Road, died early today, Feb. 13, 2002.
Arrangements are incomplete at E. F. Drum Funeral Home.

Vernon Townsend
VALE - Vernon McDonald Townsend, 61, of 3014 Seagle Town Road, died today, Feb. 13, 2002, A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Victory Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday night at Warlick Funeral Home from 7 until 8:30.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked in the furniture industry.
Survivors include his wife, Amy Sue Withers Townsend; two sons, Donald Ray Townsend of Maiden, and Randy Allen Townsend of Lincolnton; four daughters, Mary Cook, and Megan Johnson, both of Lincolnton, Teresa Rogers, and Melissa Rhoney, both of Vale; one sister, Starlene Wilson of Granite Falls; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Melissie Goodson
MAIDEN - Melissie Goodson, 89, of 2264 Ivey Church Road, died Feb. 13, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Ivey Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she worked in textile maintenance for Oxford and Rex Knitting until retirement.
Survivors include her sister, Ella Goodson Abernathy of Lincolnton; and one brother, Louie Goodson of Maiden.
E. F. Drum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Betty Adams
SHELBY - Betty Louise Hunt Adams, 70, formerly of 1116 Buffalo Street, died Feb. 13, 2002.
Arrangements are incomplete at Enloe Mortuary.

Marsha Chapman
TAYLORSVILLE - Marsha Jo Tucker Chapman, 64, of 115 6th St. NW, died Feb. 12, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. today at East Taylorsville Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends following the memorial service.
Born in Lincoln County, she was the crossing guard for Taylorsville Elementary School, was employed with Environmental Services at her church, and was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Taylorsville Fire Department.
Survivors include one son, Mickey Eugene Chapman of Taylorsville; two brothers, Bill Tucker, and Belton Tucker, both of Lincolnton; two sisters, Dorothy Rhyne of Lincolnton, and Oneda Overcash of Denver; and one grandchild, Jeffrey Chapman.
Memorials may be made to East Taylorsville Baptist Church, Baptist Men’s Group, 246 1st Ave. Dr., S.E. Taylorsville, N.C. 28681; or Hospice of Alexander County, 50 Lucy Echerd Ln., Taylorsville, N.C. 28681.

Clarence Tolbert
MAIDEN - Clarence Caldwell Tolbert, 80, of 800 Island Ford Road, died Feb. 13, 2002. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday in Maiden City Cemetery.
Born in Caldwell County, he worked in the textile industry until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Alda Turner Tolbert; one step- daughter, Phyllis Coonse of Bethlehem two grandchildren, Gary Robert, and Christie Crouse; and one great-grandchild.

Robert Shuford Jr.
MARION - Robert Lawrence Shuford Jr., 66, of Lake James Lodge, formerly of Lincolnton, died Feb. 12, 2002. A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Hollybrook Cemetery.
He was born in Lincoln County.
Survivors include his mother, Helen Camp Shuford of Lincolnton; and three sisters, Kathryn Donkle of Richmond, Va., Janice Martin of Lancaster, S.C., and Linda Billings of Greensboro.

Vester Shull
VALE - Vester Shull, 84, of 7545 Macedonia Church Road, died Feb. 12, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a truck driver for MDI until retirement, and formerly served as a deacon at his church where he taught the Adult Men’s Sunday School class.
Survivors include his wife, Hester Marie Cline Shull; two sons, Jerry Shull of Vale and Wayne Shull of Mt. Juliet, Tenn.; five daughters, Margaret Clarke of Valdese, Patricia Taylor of Vale, Brenda Efird of New London, Dianne Lewis of Hickory and Becky Young of Lincolnton; two brothers, Everette Davis of Hickory and Ralph Davis Jr. of Vale; one sister, Corene Lindsay of Vale; six grandchildren, Susan Peacock, Denise Clarke, Brian Clarke, Jeff Shull, Radley Bess, and Bartley Bess; and three great-grandchildren.

Burial will follow in St. James Lutheran Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Born in Catawba County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her daughter, Anissa Collins of Maiden; one brother, Billy “Buddy” Detter Jr. of Lenoir; one sister, Sharon Hansley of Conover; and her fiancé, Mike Edmonds of Maiden.

Michael Ramseur
MAIDEN - Michael Ramseur, 45, of 542 Johnson Street, died Feb. 16, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mt. Olive Holiness Church where he attended. Burial will follow in Maiden Rosenwald Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Born in Catawba County, he worked as a kitchen aide at the Rock Barn Country Club.
Survivors include his son, Trey Gibbs of Maiden; two daughters, Deanna Reinhardt of Maiden and Aleshia Clarke of Charlotte; his mother, Mary James Ramseur of Maiden; six brothers, Larry M. Ramseur, Jerry Ramseur and George “Al” Ramseur, all of Hickory, Carl “Chuck” F. Ramseur and Rodger Ramseur, both of Lincolnton and Donald Ramseur of Atlanta, Ga.; three sisters, Patricia Reinhardt and Linda Ramseur, both of Maiden, and Sheila Ramseur of Newton; and five grandchildren.

William Kinlow
YONKERS, N.Y. - William Lloyd Kinlow, 37, of 5 Hudson Street, died Feb. 12, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Hill Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
Born in New Rochelle, N.Y., he was employed as a cook.
Survivors include his father and step-mother, William and Clara Kinlow of Cherryville; and two step-brothers, Derrick Bradford of New Rochelle, N.Y.

Robert Rust
CHERRYVILLE - Robert “Bob” Hoke Rust, 76, of 3281 Highway 274 North, died Feb. 16, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. today in Bess Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, he was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran and worked as a square dance caller and VCR repairman until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Lou Hagler Rust; one daughter, Teresa Rust Smith Ph.D. of Winston-Salem; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem, 1100 C. South Strafford Rd., Winston-Salem, N.C. 27103.

Clyde Schronce
NEWTON - Clyde Barney “Bill” Schronce, 53, of 1771 Sigmon Dairy Road, died Feb. 16, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today in Burke Mortuaries Chapel. Burial will follow in Starmont Baptist Church cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, he was a U. S. Army Vietnam War veteran, worked as a trimmer of Crowler Furniture and was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jane H. Schronce; one son, Michael Schronce of the home; one daughter, Kimberly Mingus of Newton; his mother, Rosa Lee Lowman Knight; three brothers, Albert Schronce of Conover, Gary Schronce of Lawndale, and Calvin Schronce of Claremont; two sisters, Sharon Cook of Newton, and Debbie Propst of Hickory; and one grandchild, Cooper Mingus.
