George Brown III
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - George Monroe Brown III, formerly of Lincolnton, died March 23, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Donelson Heights United Methodist Church in Tennessee. Visitation will also be held at Warlick Funeral Home on Thursday from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hollybrook Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and attended Donelson Heights United Methodist Church for over 10 years where he sang in the choir and served on various committees. He worked in the uniform and textile services industry for over 20 twenty years. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and a cub master.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara L. Brown; two sons, George M. Brown IV, and Logan L. Brown; one sister, Nancilee Brown Dills of South Riding, Va.; and one brother, Wade Brown of Lexington.
Warlick Funeral Home, and Hibbit and Hailey Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.

Mack Knight
CHERRYVILLE - Mack Arthur Knight, 87, of 1121 Jennifer Lane, died March 23, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at First Presbyterian Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall from 1 until 2:45 p.m. today.
Born in Hickory Tavern, S.C., he was co-owner of Marvin S. Beam, Inc. until retirement. He was Elder Emeritus at his church, a member of the Men’s Bible Class, and charter member of the Cherryville Country Club.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Beach Knight; one son, Jerry A. Knight of Ft. Mill, S.C.; two daughters, Patsy K. McSwain of Shelby, and Frances J. Lambeth of Greensboro; two brothers, Ben Knight, and Erskine Knight, both of Hickory Tavern. S.C.; two sisters, Etrulia K. Thompson, and Nannie K. Armstrong, both of Hickory Tavern, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Kathy McSwain, David McSwain, Mandy Auman, Matt Lambeth, Mark Lambeth, Chris Lambeth, and Elissa Cox; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 107 W. Academy St., Cherryville, N.C. 28021; or Alzheimers Association, 3420 Shamrock Dr., Charlotte, N.C. 28215.

Jeter Hunter
IRON STATION - Jeter Henderson Hunter, 72, of 5371 Antler Drive, died March 22, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at East Lincoln Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until 2:45 Tuesday.
Born in Madison County, he was a U.S. Army WWII and Korean Conflict veteran and worked in the dry cleaning business until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Treadway Hunter; one son, William J. Hunter of Mt. Holly; three daughters, Susie Sherrill of Denver, Ruby Chambers of Mint Hill, and Cathy Earp of Monroe; one brother, Charles Hunter of Asheboro; one sister, Bonnie Rice of Cherryville; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to East Lincoln Missionary Baptist Church, 4769 N.C. Hwy. 73, Iron Station, N.C. 28080.

Jacquelyn Wilson
MAIDEN - Jacquelyn Fallin Wilson, 69, of West Maiden Road, died March 22, 2002. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the chapel at Burke Mortuary. Burial followed in Maiden City Cemetery.
Born in Alabama, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Newton, and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Roby V. Wilson; two daughters, Sandy W. Nicholson, and Robin W. Greenwood, both of Maiden; one son, Lyndon Wilson of Charlotte; her mother, Mildred S. Fallin of Lincolnton; one sister, Frances Leatherman of Vale; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Joshua Jones
CHERRYVILLE - Joshua Grant Jones, 22, of 704 Maple Street, died March 21, 2002. A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Saturday in the Cone Memorial Chapel of Carpenter’s Funeral Home. Burial followed in City Memorial Cemetery.
Survivors include his mother, Billy Brooks Jones of Cherryville; and his grandparents, Claudy and Bill Brooks of Cherryville.

Thelma Stroupe
DALLAS - Thelma Goodson Stroupe, 79, of 1908 Mayberry Road, died March 22, 2002. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Alexis Baptist Church cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, she was a member of Alexis Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Ricky Stroupe, and Donald Stroupe, both of Alexis; two sisters, Elsie G. Hilderbran, and Ruth G. “Tommie” Cline, both of Mt. Holly; three grandchildren, Allison Stroupe, Jacob Stroupe and Stacey Stroupe Bell; and one great-grandchild.

Annie Thompson
ALEXIS - Annie Bradshaw Thompson, 94, died March 23, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Alexis Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 7 until 8:30 at Carothers Funeral Home in Stanley.
Born in Gaston County, she was the Post Master of the Alexis Post Office for 37 years until retirement.
Survivors include one son, Robert “Bobby Cy” Thompson Sr.; three brothers, Richard Bradshaw of Alexis, Roy Bradshaw of Dallas, and James “Penn” Bradshaw of Stanley; two sisters, Louise Hager, and Gaynelle Abernathy, both of Alexis; two grandchildren, Robby Thompson, and Howard Thompson; and four great-grandchildren.

Loyd Dockery Sr.
GASTONIA - Loyd Dockery Sr., 76, of 1225 White Lane, died March 21, 2002. A funeral service was held at 7:30 p.m. Satruday at Ridge Baptist Church where he was a member. A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday in Swanson Baptist Church cemetery in Murphy.
He was the owner of Loyd Dockery and Son Roofing.
Survivors include his wife, Willie Mae Dockery; four sons, Charles Dockery, Daniel Dockery, Jerry Dockery, and Loyd Dockery Jr., all of Gastonia; one daughter, Janice Dillon of Galax, Va.; two brothers, Lakes Dockery of Gastonia, and Lonnie Dockery of Murphy; two sisters, Genevia Stevenson of Murphy, and Billy Jean Martin of Gastonia; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

WILKESBORO - Jerry Franklin Bangle, 55, of Water Front Drive, died March 20, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 7 tonight at Wilkes Community College Pit Auditorium. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory.
Born in Lincoln County, he was the director of the music department at the college until retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Penelope Culler Bangle of Little River, S.C.; one daughter, Angel Panos of Little River, S.C.; and one son, Michael Bangle of Wilkesboro.

Eva Ann Tucker Price, 87, of 326 South Cedar Street, died March 24, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the Family Life Center of the church two hours prior to the service.
Born in Lincoln County, she worked in the textile industry.
Survivors include two sons, Harry A. Price Jr. of Lincolnton, and David L. Price of Charlotte; one daughter, Shirley P. Monday of Lincolnton; two sisters, Pauline Cook, and Rose Auton, both of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Kylie Gilbert
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Funeral services for Kylie Brianne Gilbert, infant daughter of Cregg and Tammy Gilbert of Sunrise, Fla., were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at New Horizon United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Hollywood Memorial Gardens.
In addition to her parents, survivors include one sister, Kelsey Gilbert of Sunrise, Fla.; grandparents, Grady and Brenda Sullivan of Hartsville, and C.L. And Cheryl Gilbert of Statesville, N.C.; and a great-grandmother, Trudy B. Huggins of Hartsville, S.C.

Sherry Sparks Greene, 29, of 877 Arrow Drive, died March 25, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Memorial Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight at Stamey Funeral Home from 6 until 8.
Born in Cleveland County, she worked as a radiologic technologist for Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Bryan Greene; one son, Justin Hanson Greene; her parents, Bobby Ray Sparks of Shelby, and Peggy Tessneer Sparks; one brother, Mike Sparks of Hoschton, Ga.; and her grandmother, Margaret “Tine” Tessneer.

IRON STATION - Lat James Lawing, 83, of 5437 Christopher Road, died March 26, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Amity Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 until 8:30 at the church.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran, and worked in the textile industry.
Survivors include two sons, Donnie Lawing of Pumpkin Center, and Tony Lawing of Iron Station; one daughter, Judy Campen of Lexington; and one sister, Mary Ballard of Sherrills Ford.

Born in Lincoln County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Billy Christopher of Lincolnton; six daughters, Nancy Carole Branning, Frances Pugh, Lisa King, and Juanita Caldwell, all of Lincolnton, Martha McNeill of New London and Beulah Carringer of Maiden; two brothers, Luther Jr. Yarbrough of Lincolnton, and Jonas Yarbrough of Fallston; one sister, Jennie Lineberger of Lincolnton; 18 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren.
