SHELBY — Mary Cynthia “Cindy” Van Dyke Jones, 60, of 405 Poplar Springs Church Road, died March 24, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today in the chapel at Stamey Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a member of Landmark Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Elmer Lee Jones; her mother, Prue Hull Van Dyke of Waco; one brother, Jim H. Van Dyke of Lincolnton; and two sisters, Peggy Beaver, and Joy Kay Davis, both of Lincolnton.
Memorials may be made to Landmark Baptist Church, P.O. Box 489, Shelby, N.C. 28151; or the American Cancer Society, 500 E. Morehead St., Suite 211, Charlotte, N.C. 28202.

Cora Houser
Cora Lee Craig Houser, 84, of 1374 West Highway 150, died March 25, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Warlick Funeral Home from 1 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Born in Gaston County, she worked in the textile industry.
Survivors include one son, Gary Houser of Lincolnton; three daughters, Sharon Hoke of Forest Park, Ga., Linda Kay Mauney of Lake Park, Fla., and Gail Huss of Lincolnton; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Viola Horne
CHARLOTTE — Viola Louise Wilson Horne, 73, of 10412 Yellow Rose Lane, died March 23, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Deliverance Hall Church of God, Hickory, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Southside Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Born in Burke County, she worked for Charlotte Health Care Center until retirement. She was the Mother of the Church at her church.
Survivors include six sons, William Horne of Waco, Texas, Robert Horne of Lincolnton, Joe Horne, Kinson Horne, and Timothy Horne, all of Hickory, and David Horne of Newton; nine daughters, Barbara Horne of Greensboro, Betty Houser, Patsy Rippy, Annette Horne, and Ruth Jefferies, all of Hickory, Lena Lewis of Atlanta, Ga., Linda Armstrong of Lincolnton, and Alice Brown, and Tammy Horne, both of Charlotte; one brother, Odell Wilson of Washington D.C.; 31 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and 24 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Presbyterian Hospital Foundation, Harris Hospice Unit, 200 Hawthorne Lane, P.O. Box 33549, Charlotte, N.C. 28233.

Monnie Leach
SHELBY — Monnie Jane Moore Leach, 90, of 1010 Frederick Street, died March 21, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
She was born in Cleveland County.

Levone Huskey
GAFFNEY, S.C. — Levone D. Huskey, 81, of 110 Beltline Road, died March 25, 2002. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in High Point Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the cemetery 30 minutes prior to the service.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a member of High Point Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Raymond Huskey of White Plains Community in Gaffney; one daughter, Margaret Hall of Gaffney; one brother, Glenn Dedmon of Lawndale, N.C.; two sisters, Faye Kennedy of Fallston, N.C., and Bonnie Mae Smith of Lincolnton, N.C.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Marshall Stewart Ramseur Sr., 97, of 419 North Cedar Street, died today, March 27, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Emanuel United Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a finish carpenter.
Survivors include three sons, John Ramseur of Littleton, Colo., Marshall “Bob” Ramseur Jr., and James L. Ramseur, both of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Ethel Brown
Ethel Carpenter Brown, 82, of 2336 Southside Road, died March 26, 2002. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Southside Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 8:30 at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Kings Mountain, she worked in the textile industry.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Carpenter, and James Carpenter, both of Lincolnton; three daughters, Janette C. Cherry, Patricia C. Daniel, and Barbara J. Hovis, all of Lincolnton; 27 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

IRON STATION — Joy “Kitten” Mutter Miller, 39, of 2005 Hwy. 73, died March 28, 2002. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at Warlick Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Born in Tampa, Fla., she was a secretary.
Survivors include her husband, Jack W. Miller Jr.; three sons, Shane Miller, Matt Miller, and Trey Miller, all of the home; her mother, Geneva Mutter of Maiden; two brothers, Joseph A. Mutter, and Jerry Lynn Mutter, both of Maiden; and one sister, Jewel Butts of Maiden.

Mildred Smith
Mildred Leona Carpenter Smith, 82, of 704 Lore Rd., died Feb. 28, 2003. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Reepsville Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Ivey Smith; four sons, Haskel Lee Smith of Lincolnton, J.B. Smith of Hickory, J.W. Smith of Granite Falls, and James Lee Smith of Newton; six daughters, Martha Prue Angel of Lincolnton, Joann Pauline Hedrick of Conover, Patricia Shook of Vale, Jessie Stephens of Hickory, Rita Pope of Claremont, Brenda McCrary of Newton, and a brother, Charles Franklin Scronce of Hildebran; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

NEWTON — Lucille Pearl Carpenter Cunningham, 80, of 1210 Old Conover Startown Road, died Feb. 28, 2003. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Gainsville Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a retired furniture industry sewer.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Cunningham of Newton, and Larry Steve Cunningham of Lincolnton; a daughter, Carolyn C. Canipe of Newton; a brother, Ernest Carpenter of Lincolnton; five sisters, Ether Scronce, Lois Reynolds, Mary B. Helms, Geneva Martin and Ethel Avery, all of Lincolnton; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Juanita Cagle
Juanita Reynolds Cagle, 67, of 1100 George Brown Road, died March 1, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Leonards Fork Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a trucking industry office supervisor.
Survivors include her husband, Ray “Doodle” Cagle; a son, Danny R. Cagle of Crouse; a daughter, June Cagle of Charlotte; a brother, Everette Reynolds of Crouse; a sister, Reba Elmore of Crouse; three granddaughters, Sarah Cagle, Danielle Cagle and Brittany Cagle.

GASTONIA — Thomas Maynard Jones, 80, of 1011 W. Second Ave., died March 1, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Colonial Chapel of Carothers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 tonight at the funeral home.
Born in Cherokee County, he was a member of Swanson Baptist Church in Murphy and worked as an inspector for Firestone Mill.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Bell Jones; four brothers, James E. Jones of Lake City, Fla., Jay Jones of Lincolnton, Von D. Jones of Tunnel Hill, Ga., and Varnel Jones of Murphy; and two sisters, Lola Coleman of Murphy and Lexie Weaver of Tunnel Hill, Ga.

Teresa Huss
VALE — Teresa Sain Huss, 41, of 8037 West Hwy. 27, died March 1, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Long Shoals Wesleyan Church. Burial will follow in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a registered nurse at Lincoln Medical Center and a Mary Kay Senior Sales Director.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Huss; a son Nathanial Huss of the home; a daughter, Kasey Huss of the home; her parents, Kenneth and Martha Sain of Vale; two brothers, Robin Sain of Vale and Stephen Sain of Boiling Springs; and her grandparents, Onzie and Naomi Houser of Vale.

Survivors include her husband, Fred Ross; three sons and several grandchildren.

James Carter
James “Jim” Carter, 73, of West 2nd St., died March 1, 2003. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Rhynes Heights United Methodist Church.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a member of Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran and worked for Carolina Mills.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Laney Carter; three daughters, Cindy C. Setzer and Susan C. Dalrymple, both of Lincolnton, and Fran C. Nelson of Lenoir; a brother, Charles Carter of Lincolnton; three sisters, Nancy Ford and Frances Carter, both of Lincolnton, and Barbara Safley of Salisbury; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
