Omarion Early
SHERRILLS FORD - Omarion Early, infant son of Talisha Early and Keon Fuller, died March 31, 2003. A graveside service will be held today at 1 p.m. at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents, Yola and Gregory O’Neil of Sherrills Ford, Brian Early of Newton, Sammy Simpson of Stafford, Va., and Jackie Fuller of Newton; and his great-grandparents, Adline and Bill Woods of Newton, Louise Simpson of Maiden, and Catherine Moore of Hickory.
Ebony and White’s Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Forest Guess
CHARLOTTE - Forest Glenn Guess, 73, died March 31, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, where he was a member. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Memorial Park.
Born in Vale, he was employed for 33 years by Nations Bank and its predecessors, retiring as assistant vice president and trust officer and assistant secretary of Trust Company of Florida, was a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools teacher, and a rural carrier associate with the U.S. Postal Service. At his church, he served on numerous committees, as church treasurer, and was a member of the Madeline Tyson Covenant Class. A Korean War veteran, he was a member of American Legion Post 353.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Watts Guess, a daughter Crystal Baker, a son, Glenn Guess, Jr., two grandchildren, Erica Baker and Glenn Guess, III; two step-grandchildren, Josh Purser of Hendersonville, and Jamie Purser of Charlotte; and a brother, Darold Guess of Dallas.
Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church, Cemetery Fund, 1915 Oakdale Road, Charlotte, North Carolina 28210.

Margie Marr
HICKORY - Margie Hallman Marr, 95, 19th Street S.W., died March 30, 2003. A funeral was held at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Baptist Church, where she was a member.
Born in Lincoln County, she was a homemaker and a former Sunday school teacher.
Survivors include two sons, Rev. William Marr of King and John Drinnen Marr of Hickory; two daughters, Betty Marr Laster of Waxhaw and Nancy Duckworth of Hickory; and 11 grandchildren, William Marr Jr., Darrell Marr, Jay Duckworth, Shawn Overcash, Brett Marr, Sherri Overcash Cook, Joni Marr, Lisa Duckworth Shuford, Holli Marr, Cheryl Marr Caruso and Rachel Marr; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Fellowship Hall Building Fund, 1823 3rd Ave., S.W., Hickory, North Carolina 28093.

Michael Stacks
Michael Trevor Stacks, 34, of 521 West Water Street, died March 29, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today at Providence Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, he was employed as a Lead Person at Dixie Trucking Company.
Survivors include his mother, Henrietta R. Stacks, three sisters, Audrey Stacks of Lincolnton, Marcetta Stacks of Greensboro, Dawn Gayden of Fayetteville, and his grandmother, Aubrey Rice of the home.

Robert Griffin
Robert Franklin Griffin, of 397 Lincoln View Road and Cardinal Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, died March 31, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Gainsville Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at E.F. Drum Funeral Home.
Born in Union County, he was a U.S. Army 88th Infantry veteran and was employed by Keystone Carbon Co. as an inspector.
Survivors include his wife Ruby Broome Griffin, two daughters, Barbara Diane Griffin of Lincolnton and Judy Darlene Griffin of Gastonia, a brother, F.D. Griffin of Marshville, three sisters, Sudi Belvoir, Bille Hough, and Betty Jo Griffin, all of Marshville; two grandchildren, Jason Docherty and Candice Docherty; and two great-grandchildren.

Jack Williams
CHARLOTTE - Jack Dale Williams, 52, died March 31, 2003. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the chapel of Raymer Funeral Home, Huntersville. Interment will follow at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Cornelius. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home.
Born in Mooresville, he was retired from the N.C. Army National Guard, 105th Engineer, after 27 years of service and had been employed with Carolina Frame and Trailer and later C&S Cable.
Survivors include his mother Jane Brown Williams of Charlotte; and two sisters Donna Williams and Jean Harrison, both of Charlotte.
Memorials may be made to Bethel Presbyterian Church, 19920 Bethel Church Road, Cornelius, North Carolina 28021.

Barbara Simpson
BESSEMER CITY - Barbara Carpenter Simpson, 56, of 1517 Costner School Road, died April 6, 2003. The funeral was at 11 a.m. today at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Hillcrest Gardens in Mount Holly.
Born in Gaston County, she was a retired spinner with R.L. Stowe Mills in Belmont. She attended South Point Freewill Baptist Church in Belmont.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny Douglas Simpson; four sons, Johnny Simpson and Micheal Simpson, both of Bessemer City, Richard Simpson of Gastonia, Charles Simpson of Dallas; two daughters, Susan Simpson and Sharon Simpson, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.

Brenda Haynes
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Brenda Lynette Hord Haynes, 58, of 616 Eaker Road, died April 6, 2003. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Cherryville where she was a member, choir member, former Sunday school teacher and WMU director. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was employed for 20 years with Carolina Freight in Cherryville.
Survivors include her husband, Tommy Haynes; a son, Eric Haynes of Gastonia; a daughter, Jodi Hofberg of Graham; and two sisters, Martha Huss of Lincolnton and Myra Carson of Gastonia.

Born in Lake Charles, La., she worked for more than 15 years for Gaston County Department of Social Services.
Survivors include her husband, John “Jack” Engbarth; a son, Erick John Engbarth of Dallas; parents, J.D. and Betty Ellis of Dallas; two brothers, Robin Ellis of Riverside, California; a sister, Julie Ellis Costner of Bessemer City; and two grandchildren, Kaitlin Michelle Engbarth and Jacob Lee Engbarth.

Born in Burke County, he was a self-employed farmer and livestock producer.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Hice Ross; two sons, David Wayne Ross of Morganton and Brian Ashley Ross of the home; a brother, Robert “Bobby” Ross of Morganton; and a grandson, Joshua Wayne Ross of Valdese.

Ernest “Carmie” Houser, 95, of 3294 Elmore Road, died today, April 9, 2003. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Bethphage Lutheran Church with Burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Lincoln County, he was a retired farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Elaine Byers Houser; two sons, Dan Houser and Bill Houser, both of Lincolnton.

John Duncan Sr.
LENOIR - John Walton Duncan Sr., 78, of 3820 Hartland Road, died April 3, 2003. A memorial service was at 3 p.m. Thursday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Born in Greenwood, S.C., he was a construction equipment salesman.
Survivors include a son, Rev. John W. Duncan Jr. of Lincolnton; three brothers, Jerry Duncan of Greenwood, S.C., Elton Duncan of Fort Mill, S.C., Glenn Duncan of Enid, Okla.; four sisters, Reba Alexander, Barbara Bookout and Elma Branch, all of Charlotte, and Norma Pierce of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Chris Duncan, Lori Wright and Megan Duncan; and three great-grandchildren.

Jo Anne Hall Martin, 59, of 3860 N.C. 321 North, died April 8, 2003. Services are not scheduled at this time. The family will receive friends Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. at the residence.
Born in Mecklenburg County, she was an inspector in the textile industry.
Survivors include two sons, Tim Martin and Mike Martin, both of Lincolnton; two daughters, Andrea Watts and Joy Carter, both of Lincolnton; three sisters, Margaret Detter of Maiden, Glyda Godfrey of Lowell and Hazel Rector of Holden Beach; two brothers, Jimmy Hall of Wilson and Howard Hall of Belmont; and five grandchildren.

Born in Catawba County, she was retired from the textile industry.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Williams; a son, Johnny Williams of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; a brother, H.C. Lawing of Maiden; two sisters, Francis Byrum of Maiden and Virginia Sigmon of Lincolnton; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Lydia Clark
VALE - Lydia Watts Clark, 57, of 4131 Reepsville Road, died April 10, 2003. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Dallas Church of God with Burial to follow in Gaston Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
She was born in Robeson.
Survivors include her husband, Tony Clark; a son, Bobby Hursey of Albemarle; a stepson, James Clark of Vale; a brother, Ray Watts of Albemarle; and a sister, Betty Walker of White Oak.
