CHERRYVILLE - Robert Stroup, 92, of 111 Harrelson Road, died April 11, 2003. The funeral was at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church where he was a member. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Cherryville.
Born in Gaston County, he was a retired long line driver for Carolina Freight Carriers after 17 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served during WWII.

Hanson Huffman
CHERRYVILLE - Hanson John Huffman, 58, of 1744 Delview Road, died April 10, 2003. The funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Claremont Cemetery.
Born in Catawba County, he was a retired brick mason and a member of North Brook Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Costner Huffman; a daughter, Rhonda Grantt of Vale; two brothers, Norman Huffman of Claremont and Steve Huffman of Cherryville; a sister, Brenda Deal of Conover; and a granddaughter, Brittany Grantt.

Janette Wilkinson
DENVER - Janette Maxine Wilkinson, 74, of 4886 King Wilkinson Road, died April 10, 2003. The funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday at Macedonia Baptist Church. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Born in Lincoln County, she was retired from Talon Zipper.
Survivors include her husband, Harlan L. Wilkinson; two sons, Larry Wilkinson of Denver and Michael Wilkinson of Lowesville; three brothers, Judson McGinnis of Lincolnton, Noel McGinnis of Shelby and Kermit McGinnis of Mint Hill; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, 5286 E. N.C. 150, Lincolnton, N.C. 28092.

Kevin Powell
Vale - Kevin Wade Powell, 19, of 6618 N.C. 27, died April 15, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Warlick Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Born in Lincoln County, he worked for Powell Trucking.
Survivors include his wife, Candice Powell of Vale; one son, Hunter Powell of Vale; his mother, Mary Powell of Vale; his father, Jim Powell of Vale; one brother, Michael Powell of Columbus, Ohio; and his grandparents, Betty and Earl Powell of Lincolnton.

Jeffrey Kiser
BESSEMER CITY –- Jeffrey Lee Kiser, 43, of 2015 Tryon Courthouse Road, died April 15, 2003. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Concord United Methodist Church where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Born in Cleveland County, he was employed at Kiser Nursery and was a shooter and a marksman.
Survivors include his parents, Samuel L. and Patsy S. Kiser, both of Bessemer City; three sons, Travis and Caleb Kiser, both of Cherryville and Joshua Kiser of Winston-Salem; one sister, Luanne Campbell of Bessemer City; and two grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Concord United Methodist Church, 2404 Tryon Courthouse Road, Bessemer City, N.C. 28016.

Inez Boyles
CHERRYVILLE - Inez Elizabeth Poovey Boyles, 85, of Brian Center, died April 15, 2003. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mays Chapel United Methodist Church cemetery in Maiden. The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Burke Mortuary in Maiden.
Born in Catawba County, she was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Mays Chapel United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a grandson, Michael W. Fullbright of Claremont; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Mays Chapel United Methodist Church, 1707 Mays Chapel Church Road, Maiden, N.C. 28650.

Linda Watson
IRON STATION –– Linda Hamm Watson, 59, of 5161 E. N.C. 27, died April 14, 2003. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Born in West Virginia, she was the owner and operator of a convenience store.
Survivors include three brothers; one half-brother; five half-sisters; and his stepmother.

Ponese Scronce
Ponese Bivens Scronce, 75, of 220 Hilltop Road, died April 15, 2003. The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Bethphage Lutheran Church with Burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 Thursday at the church.
Born in Gaston County, she was a retired hairdresser and a nursing assistant at Lincoln Nursing Center.
Survivors include three daughters, Frankie Stepp of Sherrills Ford, Susan Calloway and Jacquelyn Scronce, both of Lincolnton; two sisters, Ruth Randall of Cherryville and Betty Reynolds of Lincolnton; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

DENVER - Diane Wynne Sides, 55, died April 13, 2003. The funeral was at 11 this morning at Gloryland Baptist Church where she was a member, nursery director and Ladies Circle member. Internment followed in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, John Adam Sides; two daughters, Beth Calhoun of Mount Holly and Angie Pigg of Lincolnton; four stepsons, John Adam Sides Jr. and Thomas Paul Sides, both of Salisbury, Adam Taylor Sides and Kenneth Ray Sides, both of Mount Holly; father and stepmother, Marvin and Polly Troutman of Greenville; three sisters, Becky Murray and Della Howell, both of Charlotte, and Emily Engle of Mount Holly; a brother, John Wynne of Indian Trail; two half-sisters, Shirley Roberts of Wendell and Gwen Edwards of Greenville; two half-brothers, Lee Troutman of Emerald Isle and Bill Troutman of Jacksonville, Fla.; and six grandchildren, Kristen Calhoun, Erin Calhoun, Caddisy Calhoun, Trace Pigg, Blake Pigg and Lexie Sides.

Born in Catawba County, she was a ninth-grade student at East Lincoln High School.
Survivors include her mother and stepfather, Donna and Tony Keever of the home; her father, Jeff Morrison of Vale; a brother, Max Morrison of Lincolnton; a sister, Jessica Keever of Lincolnton; and grandparents, Brenda Morrison Orren of Hickory, Kelly and Diane Morrison of Taylorsville, and LaVerne and Charles Whitted of Lincolnton.

Everette Gilbert
MAIDEN - Everette Rudolph “Rudy” Gilbert, 53, of 1373 Gold Rock Trail, died April 14, 2003. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Burke Mortuary with Burial to follow in Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at the funeral home.
He was born in Bassette, Va.
Survivors include three brothers, Lee Gilbert of Newton, Tommy E. Gilbert of Cleveland and Sonny Gilbert of Morganton; and three sisters, Betty Nix of Newton, Marcella Rubio of Rockingham and Sheila Haire of Maiden.

Marolyn Forney
Marolyn Bostic Forney, 49, of 1712 Buck Oak Road, died April 13, 2003. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Zion Hill Baptist Church where she was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
Born in Lincoln County, she worked for Delta Apparel for 24 years.
Survivors include two sons, Connell Jerome “C.J.” Forney of Lincolnton and Jeremy Smith of the home; a daughter, Connetta M. Forney of the home; mother and stepfather, Ella Frances Kinlow Cunningham and Curtis Cunningham of Lincolnton; a brother, Mitchell A. Bostic of Maiden; five sisters, Carolyn B. Watkins and Delores Lattimore of Cherryville, Marie Bostic of Lincolnton, Lorene Cunningham of Gastonia and Mary Helen Russell of Charlotte; and four grandchildren, Demontray Prescod, Tyshique Prescod, Justice Forney and Briana Forney.

Juanita Colyer
MOUNT HOLLY - Juanita Curtis Colyer, 76, of 501 Horseshoe Drive, died April 15, 2003. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ruby Cemetery in Ruby, S.C.
Born in Flag Pond, Tenn., she worked for Chesterfield County Hospital.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy Short of Denver and Susie Davis of the home; a sister, Gloria Ray of Elizabethton, Tenn.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

James Irwin Sr.
MAIDEN - James “Dennis” Irwin Sr., 66, of 2624 Bessway, died April 14, 2003. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday in the chapel at Warlick Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Born in Pensacola, Fla., he worked as an aviation mechanic in the Navy for 20 years before retiring.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda V. Irwin; five sons, Dennis Irwin Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Michael Irwin and Kenneth Cooper, both of Asheville, and Matthew Bennett of Pensacola, Fla.; five daughters, Anne Gay and Linda Carlton, both of Milton, Fla., Theresa Stewart of Commerce, Michigan and Tiffany Arthur of California; a sister; and two grandchildren.

Born in Cherokee County, S.C., he was employed by Kroehler Furniture.
Survivors include his wife, Shelly C. Whelchel; mother, Patsy B. Whelchel of Conover; stepson, Joshua Caskey of the home; son, Lee Whelchel of the home; daughter, Toni Whelchel of the home; and brother, Mandel Whelchel of Granite Falls.

Jasper Keener
GASTONIA - Jasper Pressley Keener, 86, of 868 Carolina Mills Circle, died April 16, 2003. A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at Pilgrim Tabernacle Church. Burial will be private.
Born in Lincoln County, he was the founder and pastor of Pilgrim Tabernacle Church and a textile supervisor.
Survivors include three sons, David Keener, Randy Orgeron and Ronnie Orgeron, all of Lincolnton; five daughters, Judy Smith of the home, Ailene Gilbert, Robin Morrison, Barbara Whitesides and Billie Bourice, all of Lincolnton; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.
