SHELBY - Vernon Clayton Martin, 63, of 1410 Lackey Street, died May 10, 2003. Funeral services will be today at 4 p.m. at Putnam Memorial Baptist Church, where he was a member.
Born in Cleveland County, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service and worked for H&R Block Tax Service.
Survivors include his wife Velvia Rippy Martin of the home; his parents, John V. and Eunice Queen Martin of Shelby; two daughters, Regina Ensley of Australia and Selina Barr of Shelby; two brothers, Bobby L. Martin and Billy K. Martin both of Lincolnton; one sister, Judy Wray of Shelby; and three granddaughters, Jessica Ensley, Samantha Ensley and Catherine Ensley of Australia.
Memorials may be made to Vernon Martin Family Fund, c/o Putnam Memorial Baptist Church, 1146 County Home Road, Shelby, Texas, James F. Lightfoot III of Charlotte, James L. Lightfoot of Jacksonville, Fla. and Roy C. Lightfoot of Ocala, Fla.; one daughter, Deborah J. Lightfoot of Kingston, Ga.; one brother, James F. Lightfoot, Jr. of Tampa Fla.; one sister, Dorothy Raulerson of Auburbdale, Fla.; four grandchildren, Stacy M. Law, Robert F. Lightfoot, Scott Lightfoot and Justin Lightfoot; and two great-grandchildren.

Friel Quinn
CHERRYVILLE - Friel Quinn, 86, of 404 Brookwood Ave., died May 12, 2003. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in City Memorial Cemetery with full military rites.
Born in Cherryville, he was a retired U.S. Postal Service postman, a member of the Cherryville Rotary Club, American Legion Post 100, Cherryville VFW, Past Master of Cherryville Lodge 505 AF&AM, and a member of Scottish Rite Masons Charlotte. He was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army who served during WWII.
Survivors include his wife Rachel Lansing Quinn of the home; two daughters, Friela L. Quinn of Cherryville and Robin Buschemeyer of Louisville Ky.; and a grandson, Jay Buschemeyer of Louisville, Ky.
Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 107 West Academy Street, Cherryville, North Carolina 28092.
Warlick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Agnes Neill
DENVER - Agnes Anderson Neill, 86, of 4115 Lakeshore Road South, died May 13, 2003. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Warlick Funeral Home.
Born in Kearny, NJ, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband Constant “Connie” Neill of the home; one son, Harold C. Neill of Jacksonville, Fla.; one daughter, Karen Neill Spivey of Mooresville; one brother, James Anderson of Roanoke, Va.; three grandsons, Michael Spivey, Stephan Spivey and Brian Neill; and one great-granddaughter.

Luther Stroupe
Luther Steven Stroupe “Steve”, 43, of 306 Bynum Road, died May 13, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at E.F. Drum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Pisgah United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Thursday at E.F. Drum Funeral Home.
Born in Gaston County, he was a retired carpenter.
Survivors include his wife Patricia W. Stroupe of the home; three sons, Steven Stroupe and Dustin Stroupe both of Lincolnton and Brandon Stroupe of Gastonia; his father, Larry Stroupe of Dallas; two brothers, Jeffery Stroupe of Gastonia and Mike Williams of Kings Mountain; one sister, Mille Williams of Gastonia; and two grandchildren.

B. Hollifield
WACO - Buddy Hollifield, 72, of 2040 Capernaum Rd., died May 13, 2003. Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. at Waco Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in Capernaum Cemetery.
Born in Yancey County, he was a Ruritan National Director from 1989-1991 and National Foundation Trustee, member of the Tri-County Horseman Association, a U.S. Army Korean War veteran and a Western and Southern Insurance Company retiree.
Survivors include his wife Bessie Faye Marlowe Hollifield; one daughter, Regenia Randall of Casar; two sons, Dennis Hollifield of Shelby and Jonathan Hollifield of Kings Mountain; six grandchildren, Jason Hollifield, Holly Hollifield, Alex Hollifield, Taylor Hollifield, Shea Randall and Steve Randall; two great-grandchildren; four brothers J.D. Hollifield, Henry Hollifield, Dewey Carl Hollifield and Ed Hollifield, all of Asheville; and two sisters, Leila Proffit and Edna Dodd both of Asheville.

SHELBY - Arthur Gene Wade, 63, of 115 Steeple Street, died May 10, 2003. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Good Samaritan Fellowship Church. Burial will follow at Webb Memorial Lawns. The family will receive friends from 2:30 until 3 p.m. Friday at the church.

SHELBY - Lisa Robin Crevelle, 37, of 2030 Elizabeth Ave., died May 10, 2003. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Friday at S.T. Enloe Memorial Chapel at Enloe Mortuary.

Perry Weaver
SENECA, SC - Perry Ray Weaver, 46, of 306 Delphi Drive, died May 12, 2003. Funeral services will be today at 1 p.m. at Rhyne Heights United Methodist Church, Lincolnton, North Carolina, and Wanda L. Siler of Myrtle Beach.

Olaf Carpenter
BESSEMER CITY - Olaf “Soda” Nezre Carpenter, 80, of 821 Long Creek Road, died May 14, 2003. Funeral services will be today at 4 p.m. at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, where he was a member. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors by American Legion Post 243.
Born in Gaston County he was a disabled veteran, a member of the Moose Lodge, DAV, and American Legion Post 243.
Survivors include two sons, Terry Carpenter and Carlton Carpenter both of Bessemer City; two daughters, Anita Smith of Lincolnton and Barbara Nichols of Bessemer City; two brothers, A.D. Carpenter of Dallas and Alvin Carpenter of Cherryville; two sisters, Lorene Mace of Bessemer City and Mazel Smith of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimers Foundation, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, Washington County, Pa., he was employed as a cost accountant for R-Anell Homes and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
Survivors include his wife Marjorie Benton Brewer of the home; one son, Joseph Martin Brewer of Lincolnton; one daughter, Leslie B. Hilburn of Iron Station; two brothers, Jerry Mitchell and John Brewer of Elco, Pa.; three sisters, Ruth Richardson of Monongahela, Pa., Hope Wargo of Charleroi, Pa. and Frances Wahl of Trussfield, Ala. and four grandchildren.

Louise Davis
Louise Beard Davis, 75, of 267 Old Lincolnton Crouse Road, died May 15, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Leonards Fork Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 - 8:30 tonight at the funeral home.
Born in Catawba County, she was a textile industry retiree.
Survivors include two sons, James Davis of Lincolnton and Wayne Davis of Vale; two daughters, Libby D. Strother of Southern Pines and Christine D. Mosteller of Lincolnton; four brothers, Carl Beard, Bill Beard, Rob Beard and Glenn Beard, all of Maiden; six sisters, Rosie Poovey, Edith Pirkle, Betty Willis, Mary Emmett, Dorothy Lazenby and Ruth Cansler all of Maiden and eight grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 434 Fayetteville Street Mall Two Hanover Square Suite 1600, Raleigh, North Carolina Department of Transportation retiree, a U.S. Army WWII veteran, a former member of VFW, DAV and AMVETS and a member of New Hope Baptist Church..
Survivors include his wife Joan Alexander Runyan; one brother, Morris Runyan of Earl and one sister, Grace Lyerly of Huntersville.

Floy Bolick
MAIDEN - Floy Rudisill Bolick, 85, of Maiden, died May 17, 2003. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. Martins Lutheran Church, where she was a member. Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 3 - 4 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Born in Catawba County, she was a restaurant owner.
Survivors include one daughter, Gail Sigmon of Maiden; two granddaughters, Angela Sigmon and April Sigmon Ramsey both of Maiden; two brothers, Garland Rudisill of Denver and Harold Rudisill of Newton.
Memorials may be made to North Carolina 28601 or St. Martins Lutheran Church 214 West Main Street, Maiden, New York and Colorado.
Survivors include three daughters, Mary Edith Sigmon, Peggy Finger and Joanne Ross, all of Lincolnton; one sister, Marion Punch Cashion of Lincolnton; seven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
